Gran Turismo 7 Review - A Good Sim Racer, But Far From a Great One | Zyro-EG

Jason says, "Racing simulators have always only appealed to a very small subset of people who play videogames especially when you consider how even less of them overall focus on playing racing games. But car enthusiasts like me just can’t skip a good racing game, and Gran Turismo has served us for years with an accessible sim-racing experience. This entry might lean a little too far to the casual side, have dated AI much like its roster, and be cursed by graphical cross-gen resource budgeting, but it still gets sim racing right, adds modding and tuning fun, has a healthy track count, and replays are blissfully cathartic to watch. Conclusion? It’s a good sim racer, but far from a great one."

'Racing simulators have always only appealed to a very small subset of people who play videogames especially when you consider how even less of them overall focus on playing racing games.'.

Try saying that after a few beers.

Looks like it was typed after a few beers tbh

I think (after reading this sentence like 10 times) that he's trying to say that "real' car enthusiasts are too busy doing things with cars in real life to care about a realistic racing game. And even if I were to correct the grammar, the underlying point....isn't true. 80 million copies sold isn't exactly a "niche" audience.

dumahim1113d ago

Some car enthusiasts can't do much car stuff because of the cold weather.

Deeeeznuuuts1113d ago

My thoughts exactly when I read that quote, it's literally Sony's best selling game franchise, by a lot too.

Just the fast that I alwais start the race last don’t make any sense

”Racing simulators have always only appealed to a very small subset of people who play videogames especially ...”

Playstation: GT7 tops charts in UK for 3 weeks in a row.

A real small subset that. (UK is known for its racing enthusiasts but still....)

It's the most played racer right now and real easy to play. There not even comparison. The Mt talk doesn't have any real effect on sales. When you start playing its easy to make money and now it's even easier. Just got another legend car. What's funny with this game it's that I'm becoming a collector and trying to get all the cars. Just wish that we could see our cars like in a showroom

"The Mt talk doesn't have any real effect on sales." You say that as if that's a good thing. And no, I am not referring only to Gran Turismo, but MTs in general.

What, specifically, did they lie about?

MadLad1113d ago

Merrin's post barely ever have anything of substance behind them.

It definitely has flaws:

- chase the rabbit races are unacceptable...I mean, the game has AI that can actually race yet they choose this why!?

- the camera options are very poor. Why can't we adjust FoV and have dashboard cam? Wheel users are really let down

- Sport mode definitely needs further tweaking

- No weather radar BEFORE the race is simply idiotic.

- Menus are cumbersome and the shifting music is jarring

HOWEVER, I love this game, it is oozing with passion and is a joy to drive.

Knushwood Butt1113d ago

It's refreshing to see someone that has actually played the game sharing their frustrations.

While I don't agree with all of these (I have a wheel. Cockpit view for me):

While I'm only collecter level 26, the weather radar is useless from what I've seen. I assume it will only have practical use in endurance races. Some of the cafe events simply force you to drive in the wet with non-wet tyres. Kind of dumb but I guess it shows off the wet race simulation.

My biggest gripe is the AI mixed with chase the rabbit. Just count the number of times you catch a car in front hogging the apex of a corner. Plus the AI is dirty AF. That thing where a car ahead of you comes off the circuit only so they can ram you when rejoining is so annoying.

EazyC1108d ago (Edited 1108d ago )

The cockpit view issue thing might be more so for sim rig users. It's nice to have it set up like an actual car (Ie a dashboard camera with no visible wheel/hands on screen) -- whereas the options we have force us to have a duplicated wheel on the screen in addition to the one in front of us irl. I just think that relative to the market the view options are quite lacking.

Same goes for the HUD -- Assetto Corsa Competizione for example lets you completely customise the HUD so you can have it as minimalist as you like. GT7 allows three options (I believe?), but the "No HUD" and "Race Info Only" options are useless because you cannot adjust Traction Control, fuel use, brake balance etc when in use.

And yes I've noticed that thing with the other cars leaving the typical race line! There is a similar "scripted" oversteer correction thing the AI does but it's always the exact same thing and quite frustrating because they'll just go right into you while correcting it.

Yeah If they improve the music switching and let us deselect songs then I would be a lot happier. Or even just the ability to skip songs. I hate the VROOM song and the Sky High Mountain screech song so much! Notifying us of potential rain would be cool too, then you could adjust your car a bit more efficiently before the race.

CML21113d ago

You can turn off songs in the Showcase menu.

@ CLM2
Omg dude you are a life saver! Thank you so much for telling me this. Seriously you made my day man.

The Aston Martin Vintage?

Does the senior product manager not proofread?

Wish they'd put a couple of endurance races in. Every time there's an update I have the cars and the events finished in 30 mins

"The next-generation racing AI agent, Gran Turismo Sophy has evolved into “GT Sophy 2.1” and is now available in ‘Custom Race’ (PS5 version only)

‘GT Sophy’ can now be selected as the rival AI in Custom Race on all GT Sophy supported tracks and layouts in World Circuits."

This should be fun to play with.
