Assetto Corsa Competizione PS5 review: The most realistic console driving experience

Assetto Corsa Competizione is now available for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and following its first post-release update, delivers an excellent platform to build upon for console drivers.

Several of the tracks mentioned in this review, like Oulton Park, are locked behind DLC. At least, they are where I am. Did this review copy come with all DLC unlocked?

Ok but did they fix the terrible 3rd person camera which floats around destroying your ability to drive with precision? I deleted this on PS4 because the 3rd person camera is garbage.

To be fair hardcore sims like this aren't really meant to be played outside of cockpit view.

lol no. i enjoy gt7 a lot. i'm playing on ps5, but compared to Asetto, i would describe it as "cute". and in the simcade arena, Forza Motorsport has kinda been better than Gran Turismo for years. I'm not saying the new reboot will be, i know practically nothing about it - but GT hasn't been king for a while.

In terms of pure sim and racing realism, iRacing and Asetto Corsa are kings. There are even eSports competitions dedicated to the iRacing platform. Even Project Cars has a more realistic sim system than GT or Forza. The latter 2 still fluff up the physics a bit so they aren't quite as realistic.

I say this as a true gearhead, racing fan and car fanatic. This is my wheelhouse, and my opinions are completely objective having played all of them in search for the best, realistic racing experience with 0 bias to platform. i own them all.

There are GT tournaments science GT5 so nothing special about that. Sure IRacing is in a complete different level with professional drivers competing in IRacing tournaments but Asetto Corsa and Project cars aren't.

yeahokwhatever1129d ago

No. not a single forza title has even gotten close to GT4 when it comes to driving, much less the later GT games. Asetto is good if you dont have access to literally any other racing games. iRacing is much better than Ass-etto, but dated visually. Still, of the games you listed, iRacing is probably the best. Mentioning Project Cars tells me that you are not serious. GT7 isnt perfect, but its a lot more perfect than half of these games. Forza is in a completely different direction entirely. How is the single player in AC? Are there championships? Take your car and upgrade it etc?m etc?

0hMyGandhi1129d ago

"and my opinions are completely objective"

that's not how opinions work.

Michiel19891129d ago

"my opinions are completely objective" u lost me there.

fr0sty1129d ago

Opinions are subjective by nature, dude.

Knushwood Butt1129d ago

@ Outsider

You can't 'upgrade' your car, as they all comply to whatever class they are in, but there are extensive setting options.

Tspite1129d ago

Where have you been?? GT Sport was officially partnered with the FIA. Had world tour events/championships (they would fly you out to Tokyo/Brazil/Paris for these tournaments). GT has online infrastructure for competitive racing, much like iRacing and ACC… PD also officially partnered with the Olympics (yes, the actual Olympics) for an official Olympic Time Trial where you got a trophy/medal and all.

frostypants1128d ago (Edited 1128d ago )

Forza Motorsport stopped being better than GT after FM4.

darkrider1128d ago

Opinions.... Everybody got one. The diference is that one got 100 millions drivers through their history and the other are just another racer and in some cases milked beyond belief.

Not anymore with the last game. Hasn’t been the same for a while now i’m afraid.

EazyC1129d ago

I love GT7 but this is another beast entirely. ACC is complete simulation of Gt3 racing, pure and simple.

Tspite1129d ago

I play both, use to play ACC for drifting and ACC Comp. I prefer GT7 over these (though I love AC for drifting).

CaptainHenry9161129d ago

This simulator game is my go to on PC. Forza or GT can't touch it

Sgt_Slaughter1129d ago

This is what I've been trying to tell people, GT7 in all of its excellence is still a step behind PC simulators and those simulators are coming to consoles finally. We're about to see professional 1:1 racing games with full physics enter the console market and it's going to be fun.

Solitariussaint1129d ago

Is Asetto Corsa playable offline on PS5? The always online for GT7 is a dealbreaker for me.

MadLad1128d ago

It is.
Obviously the game had updates if you want them which you need to be online for, but you don't need a ridiculous always online system to play the game.
