With Bloodborne turning seven years old this week, Dark Souls 3 turning six, and the series as a whole in its 13th year, this seems like the perfect time to take a step back and marvel at the unlikely success of a franchise seemingly hell-bent on doing the opposite of what we have been conditioned to expect from a modern AAA franchise.
Different is a hard sell in AAA space. It wasn’t a hard sell or different for From. It’s their bag. I agree personally but the millions of dollars that flow through don’t think like us. Them trying to be different is copying From.
I dont think its that different now in 2022 seeing as the souls games have created a lot of imitators and clones.
Elden ring has taken taken it in a kind of a bold new direction with the open world, and freedom to tackle challenges in whichever order you want.
Im almost certain my playthrough of the game will be totally different to someone elses which is cool as it creates discussion.
Fs is in a great spot right now as sure people can try copy the frame work.
But the art direction and feel of the games, no one will be able to match.
