Latest PS5 System Update Has Stealthily Added Instant Game Response For ALLM

PSU: "Sony’s recently-launched PS5 system update has stealth-added a key feature that many have just picked up on, namely Instant Game Response for LG CX TVs and other select models, according to reports on Reddit.

For those out of the loop, Instant Game Response automatically switches your picture setting to ‘game mode’ in an effort to lower input lag whenever your are gaming. This is known as Auto Low Latency Mode, or ALLM for short."

Me too, I'm using a several year old TV that auto switches between game mode for gamers, or my custom movie mode for whenever I use something like Netflix on the Ps5. Granted it is a Sony tv, so didn't realise this was missing on other brands. Great to see it across the board.

I mean I guess it's nice that if for some reason you plug in to a new input and forget to adjust the picture mode, then the system can do it automatically.

My samsung tv doesnt have that feature so i just leave it set to game mode.

Really? Which model do you own? I have a Samsung Qled 60 inch. It displays "game mode" when my console powers on.

I did wonder what this message was that was popping up on the top right side of my screen. It now automatically goes to game mode every time I switch on my PS5. Hopefully this is a feature that can be disabled, as I prefer my own custom settings.

Why dont you use game mode on your TV though? the input lag is significantly higher on any other mode, specially if you are choosing to enable any of the post processing stuff that a lot of TVs can allow you to enable and I’m pretty sure that when VRR is enabled, it will also only be possible to use it if its on game mode

This video explains it better than I ever could. I'm more into my single player games and therefore, although I adore having the option for going up to 120fps, I'm more of a picture quality nerd, as I love my movies as you can tell from my avatar, hence why my television is calibrated to cinema user mode to get the optimum image quality when playing my games. I switch it to 'sports' mode when watching tv for the rugby and football.

At the end of the day though it's very much personal preference.

Not sure why they didn't put this in the patch notes, this is a pretty big win for those with ALLM TV's.

I'm glad they're finally introducing the new TV tech like ALLM, VRR (soon) etc. I wish it would've all been there since launch, but it is what it is. Next up they need to support 1440p.

Well, some people do like to use monitors with their consoles, so being able to choose a 1440p output is a lot better than having to go all the way down to 1080p as it is right now.

Same if you happen to have an hdmi 2.0 120hz screen. You can choose 4k60hz or 1080p120hz even though hdmi 2.0 allows 1440p120hz just fine.

Weird, my LG automatically goes to game mode when changing to the channel where my console is hooked on. I don’t see the point in this “stealthy added” feature.

Why do you have to mention lgcx when all new tvs have allm? Its not like its exclusive or better supported with lg. And it has worked without the update with samsung/other tvs for ages.same with so called 3d audio(low quality binaural 2.0 mixed audiodata) tvs had it before consoles.When game mode is left automatic its just change to gamemode everytime game is launched. Or you can just left gamemode on for console hdmi port. Allm is not a big deal. VRR is what we need and 120hz mode that can always be on despite the fps. 120hz give lowest input lag fps doesnt matter.

VRR next and it'll be on par with Series X. Also make sure the latest Sony TV's support VRR instead of saying they will and never adding the feature like last year 😂
