Why did Guardians of the Galaxy underperform for Square Enix?

Square Enix have recently share their financial earnings report. Curiously, the well received game Guardians of the Galaxy has underperformed.

Just Square Enix having high expectations yet again not realising their shit with the Avengers is what turned a lot of people away from Guardians

Regardless of sales/money...Guardians is the better game out of the two which deserves sequels

GoTG was a fun game . I just don’t want to see bad games like the Avengers . I am not a big Marvel fan but I like good games .

The game was a real highlight of 2021 for me but I didn't buy it at launch solely because of how bad avengers was. And I'm not alone far from it also the promotional materials were bad they showcased average looking graphics and gameplay when the game was much better they didn't highlight it's strengths.

So it's a failure of their damaged reputation and marketing IMO.

But their expectations were unrealistic like every marvel fan is a gamer type of unrealistic. I really think they need to stop pointing the fingers every five minutes and do something about their games which never meet expectations somehow despite being actually really good outside of avengers hopefully that taught them a lesson about GAAS

Too high of expectations and Avenger's tanking made people immediately not want to invest another 60-70+ into what could have been another disappointment.

This is becoming a pattern for them. Either they're wasting money on things they don't need to waste so much on or they have unrealistic expectations of what their games are going to sell. Cause not only did GoG underperformed but so did The World Ends With You, and their mobile division.

Which is in stark contrast to games like Bravely Default where they're surprised at how much they actually sold. I just see SE as being very inefficient with their time and money management, personally I'm waiting well after games release after KH3, FF15, FF7R....

It has to do with the half baked souless Avengers game. The stigma from that is what effected the sales.

GotG was an awesome game, I loved the story, presentation and soundtrack. I felt the gameplay was its weakest point, not much variety and really easy. Soundtrack was maybe to much mainstream, the movies had a number of big hits then pulled a lot of forgotten bangers to the forefront. The game played it to safe with the soundtrack.

However I would highly recommend the game to anyone thinking of playing it.
