The chip shortage really won't start being actively cleaned up until mid 2024.

It's pretty much business as usual until then. The powers that be are more worried about cars than gaming hardware, and that's where the bulk of the effort is being put.

Here in the UK they haven't been that hard to get. Me and my partner were talking about the console as she wanted to get me for xmas. I told her I seen loads in stock, which she claimed wasn't true. We walked In to Game and low and behold we walked out with a series X.

I even got a series X brand new with damaged box for £333.76, ended up selling that a few weeks later for £450.

Sign up with a stock alert app and subscribe to premium £4.99 a month. That's how I got one. You can use free version but premium gives you a 120 second quicker alert which can make all the difference

It's actually convenient to do so when you are going to be using the console with it anyways.

For eg I dont expect everyone to calibrate their 32 inch 100% dci p3 monitors with a professional calibrator. If they can good, but if there are simpler ways, why not?

Also I dont know if you understood whats being shown, it is for the consoles benefit.

That's what your AVR's room calibration software is for... or if you're so inclined, using alternative software like Room EQ Wizard, and a calibrated UMIK-1.

I have been using my Series X for streaming most of my content, because the difference in audio is huge compared to using my Home Theater from my TV audio outputs.

Yes thank you. I am allready enjoying dolby atmos pcm 7.1 surround passthrough with eArc avr good audio is important as good image quality or even more. There is no better way for audio than real avr surround sound.

Films and Gaming are different.
I do hope many understand this.
Dolby Atmos is not anywhere equivalent to other approaches to 3d audio for gaming...

Dolby atmos is the og 3d sound if you have height speakers. And if you try to say these "3d 2.0 headsets" have anything over proper surround sound setup you are wrong. 3d for headsets is nothing more than extension of meme 7.1 headsets. Its better but nowhere near the real thing, which is true surround sound. With avr and speakers, you get the real experience. 2.0 headsets and 3d audio only try to mimic this with software tricks, giving somewhat feeling of surround sound but reduced quality every way.

Go watch Cerny's talk on Tempest, and what it really about,. 5 FFT's that people can try, Imagine if you could get your own? Also , it just isnt about placement and "Audio Raytracing,,," but also material based cause and effect. They want to provide developers ,"Game" developers , a sound engine based on Gaming... (Not just reflections, Delay/Reverb, But code that allows,,,a drop of rain hitting your plastic poncho to sound different to hitting a cars Hood.... All real time... Little lone the point of placement compared to Atmos...
Dont get me wrong., even mixing I 5.1 , real 5.1, besides deliverables requiring many version, LCR, PRO Logic (dolby License) and a stereo fold down, etc etc......Logic Has Atmos now....But no one in their right mind would mix a film using Binaural.....
But, Gaming is REAL TIME..... Very very different.

Dont go dismissing , just cause....Do some research, Hopefully I've given you details took look up, as you wouldn't of known.

I mix films.. LCR, done a few 5.1.. Not Atmos as yet.... But if you honestly dont understand the difference for gaming Tempest engine has been designed for, and what dolby did (like Kodak,Panision) with licensing.... There's more to tempest that just sound placement....
I reiterate. Dolby is a brand , one that made a hell of a lot of money through licensing....
Heres one, as a Muso , Music in surround , of say a live concert, Dolby didnt come close to DTS releases....

@Frankvdm The PS5’s audio is laughably not superior as it’s currently restricted to inferior means of delivery. No audio lover will ever say that any form of (3D) audio emulated through a headset will ever match that of a proper surround setup… because it literally can’t (physics, compression, sound displacement and all).

A $99 headset attempting to mimic this experience is like replacing a Cinemax experience with headphones… it’s consumer friendly but not even close to the same thing.
