From Polygon: "Capcom games like Resident Evil 4 and Devil May Cry allegedly used unlicensed copyrighted photos extensively in its games to build out environments, details, and even the Resident Evil 4 logo, according to a new lawsuit filed Friday.
Designer Judy A. Juracek filed her initial complaint in a Connecticut court on Friday. In the lawsuit, she alleged that Capcom used photos from her copyrighted book, Surfaces, in multiple games, including Resident Evil 4, Devil May Cry, and other Capcom games. Surfaces is a collection of 1,200 photographs of textures that Juracek photographed herself; the book is intended to be used for “visual research” for artists, architects, and designers, according to the book’s description. It was originally published in 1996. The collection comes with a CD-ROM of the images — but Juracek said she requires people to license images from her for commercial use by contacting her directly. Juracek said in the lawsuit that Capcom never contacted her for a license."
With the release of the Devil May Cry series on Netflix, we take a moment to look back on this almost 20-year-old series and let you know the best of the best.
"Devil May Cry 2 isn’t trash. It’s just misunderstood by a fanbase that doesn’t like change."
This and putting DMC 2 number 2 is all I need to ignore this ranking. DMC2 is absolute trash and it's clear this person doesn't understand exactly why.
Sales of games in the Devil May Cry franchise have surged as a result of the new anime adaptation's success. DMC 4, DMC 5, and the DMC HD Collection have all reentered Steam's Global Top Sellers. Devil May Cry 5's player count jumped from around 2,000 concurrent players to just over 13,500 players in the span of a few days. Devil May Cry 4 and the Devil May Cry HD Collection have also seen similar sales boosts in the past week.
The success of the Devil May Cry anime adaptation—and to a lesser extent, the Onimusha TV series—serves as early proof the company's multimedia expansion strategy in action, showcasing how Capcom is leveraging its game IPs beyond consoles and into streaming platforms.
Lol, well... Better late than never, I suppose. It's a wonderful series. Devil May Cry V was truly something special (despite my small nitpick on the overuse of one particular level.) I still think it's probably the best action game ever made. Not sure if I'll check out the anime but I've been rocking with the games since the start of the series.
Deserved, DMC is peak hack and slash, and despite it's awareness, the sales numbers should be higher imo for what it does.
I really was expecting to hate this show with Nero voicing Dante and all the changes they made, but cringe forced cussing aside, I really enjoyed the hell out of it.
I am guilty as of yesterday lol I bought the HD collection on Playstation and the definitive edition of DmC for 20 bucks yesterday. Granted, I already own them on PC and Physically and just wanted a convenient spot because I was planning on doing a sit down at the TV playthrough with my son.
Then I realized I could just use my Asus rog(offline mode) and Steamdeck we play our own games at the same time. And I give him tips as we play through them. I will likely do DmC on the PS4 though because that doesn't play the best on steamdeck. Otherwise we would play in my office on my ps5 pro or gaming desktop. That is to cluttered though....
Anyways, I'm super excited to go home and play DMC1 with my son tonight!
Dante's voice actor seems to have spilled the beans on Devil May Cry 6, teasing Capcom's next major project for the franchise.
He just misspoke and said 6 instead of 5 when talking about the game after the failed reboot.
The real leak/tease is the vergil voice actor saying he voiced Vergil recently and had to voice him younger.
Cool.
I don't know what it is with so many Japanese companies but they sure do look lifting shit without permission. lol If it isn't the terminator or robocop appearing in an old JPN version of a Shinobi game its music being lifted from American artists in DBZ Budokai 3. Honesty I wouldn't be shocked if they used Mecha Godzilla in Shinobi 3 without permission. He survived the localization process unlike the latter two. Happened with the first Season of DBZ Kai as well. After a while the music switched back to the original score from the shows first run for the same reason songs in the games were changed. It doesn't bother me its just a funny observation of mine over the years. My favorite is still from F91 Gundam. The Imperial March plays as you watch a mobile suits flying around late in the OVA. I saw that movie many years ago on cartoon network so I figured once I got it on BluRay song would of changed or I had imagined it all but nope its still there all these years later. lmao
Anyway I went on a bit of a tangent there. rofl I'm curious what the settlement was. They boosted a lot of images. Crazy all this came from that Capcom security breach. They most likely would of never been caught if that hadn't happened. Even then it was brought to the authors attention by another party who noticed all the eerie similarities right down to shattered glass images used on the RE4 logo or that mini door puzzle at that mayors house. People were very thorough to notice all that.
