A PlayStation spokesperson had nothing to say about a new tiered PS Plus service: “Globally, we are moving from PlayStation Now gift cards to focus on our current cash denomination PlayStation gift cards, which can be redeemed for PlayStation Now.”
It's being bundled into Playstation Plus as an optional tier. We already knew this.
Good luck with that one.
We don't know that for sure it's all rumours. But this just makes it very likely that Playstation is about to announce its Game Pass equivalent.
What would it have to be as you say a "Game Pass equivalent"?
Day one first party releases at that price would be fantastic coupled with bc for ps3 games I’d be in.
Was this confirmed?
No it isn't. PS Now is going away. Sony said they're launching a new service to compete with Game Pass. Bundling the two wouldn't be a new service.
PS Now will never compete against Xbox Game Pass. I prefer Native PC Games, than streaming.
You can download I'f playing on a PS4/PS5 and stream if your playing on a phone / tablet / laptop just to let you know.
Only specific titles. The majority of legacy titles are stream only unless you have the original hardware.
@TheRealTedCruz So when you say "only specific titles" can be downloaded, you actually mean every PS4 and PS2 game available on the service, and when you say "the majority of legacy titles are stream only" you mean PS3 games. I know you hate PlayStation but come on.
@jeece Yeah yeah. I know I know. I hate Sony so much I've owned a PS2, PS3, PS4 Pro, and now a PS5. Hate them so much I'm part of the minority that actually subscribed to Now. I have no idea what I'm talking about, and just want to hate on them. It's not that I'm simply an outlier here that doesn't worship Playstation like some sort of God, and chooses to poke at those who do. I probably put more money into Sony's pockets than half the people who pin me as a Playstation hater.
@TheRealTedCruz I own a Xbox from every Xbox generation to include the current gen and I have a current GamePass subscription but that doesn't mean I can`t have such a distain for Microsoft that it could be called hate and think the gaming world wound be much better off Microsoft would walk away from it.
@TheRealTedCruz you do know that there are more downloadable games available on PSNow than on GP, right?
@TheRealTedCruz Notably you just talk nonsense about how you can't hate on a brand because you bought a few of their products, but you don't dispute that you wildly misrepresented PSNow. It's such a tired out play to misrepresent PSNow by pretending it's a primarily streaming service with a few downloads, when it's actually a download service with one section of titles that can only be streamed.
GP is nothing to have to "compete" with. The Sony community ACTUALLY pays for their games, good for the companies, and for the players. PS Now is an option NOT a lifeline for Sony. Without GP, there's absolutely no value for XB. Their community is so cheap they don't want to support anything enough to not need GP.
Surgical, If Sony actually start a similar GP service or rebrand to "Compete' with GP you would have played yourself. Some people might like the Xbox eco system better, the SX also offers features not on the PS5, like Dolby Vision and VRR(My T.V does both), Then its proven that a lot of their franchises have legs even if you don't like them, not to mention the system gets almost all the same 3rd party games as PS. MS also just added tons of new devs to make games so even more is coming. MS has done really well with the exception of the Xbox one sales wise. And then saying, if they didn't have gamepass they would be no value is SX is very subjective to gamers..do you feel the same way about Nintendo? Also calling people cheap is silly..people look for deals and bang for their bucks in every facet of life, even rich people. On top of that, why is your comment not banned for trolling? Noting in it makes any sense and its direct trolling.
Trolling? Hell, even with GP what is the value of an SX when nothing is using "all that power"? Oh, the "just wait, it's coming" argument is old. We've been hearing it since Sony overtook the 360 after a year head start. I have an SX, and there is absolutely NO reason to have it. What's out now that solidifies its purchase? GP? It is full of XB1 games that can be played on an XB1.🤔 Nintendo isn't touting "THE MOST POWERFUL NEXT GEN SYSTEM," so we don't have to pretend that all this "power" is needed to play old games. Name one game that needs the SX to be played? I'll wait.... Oh, and I've got the best gaming equipment able to be purchased, too. I just need XB to give me a reason, on their side, to use it. PS is doing a bang-up job.
About 80% of the library on psnow is downloadable. What is it with this misinformation regarding psnow? The other huge catalog of stream only is only applicable to really really old titles and ps3 titles. ALL ps4 titles are downloadable of which there is an equal library easily comparable to gamepass. Put together with ps2 titles, psnow has a much larger library of quality titles than gamepass.
Agreed. I have both and play far more on PS Now than GP.
Sony have since given a statement on this, and confirmed it is accurate and is global: “Globally, we are moving from PlayStation Now gift cards to focus on our current cash denomination PlayStation gift cards, which can be redeemed for PlayStation Now.”
I forsee a rebranding and reconfiguration of PSNow and PS Plus.
Cue in the Gamepass competitor.
People are so excited to see Sony compete with Microsoft as a way to legitimze what Microsoft is doing, but no one seems to ask is Sony should. Their games sell so much that it doesn't make sense for them to put fold them into a subscription. Between Horizen and God Of War, you are looking a 40 million lifetime sales from just those to games releasing this year. Why does Sony HAVE TO forgoe those profits jsut to validate what Microsoft is doing? They shouldn't
I agree that their game sell well enough but I honestly believe they will come out with a direct competitor at some point. The PS2, best selling console of all time reached 150 million roughly. A game pass type service can surpass that because it not relying on one particular console being sold. It live across multiple devices, you just need to have it properly supplied with a variety of games. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if we see something on that front. Just my take.
Psnow was already a gamepass equivalent. It existed before gamepass and has been offering a great catalogue of recent and exclusive titles. The only difference being that psnow doesnt get day one titles. Which isnt a bad thing since that harms the profit potential of a game. For instance. I will never have to actually buy Halo, Psychonauts, State of Decay, heck even mass effect legendary edition which just got put on gamepass....and btw these are all games I would have bought to at least try. So instead of getting $60 or $20 from me they're all likely getting only a tiny percentage of my gamepass subscription which isnt expensive at all. Whatever Sony does I hope it is not a gamepass equivalent for their sake. I wouldnt mind paying slightly more per year to have psnow access though.
Exactly, paying for your games actually supports the industry that all these GP advocates are neglecting. They wonder why Sony gets the royal treatment. I hope whatever they're doing is nothing like GP. It's best to price out the nuisances.
PS Now has zero PS5 and zero PC games, the two platforms I use. I don't see much use for the service in its current form. It could easily be made much better, but right now it has very little value for me. It's certainly not remotely competitive with GamePass for anyone playing on a current gaming platform.
So just off the top of my head psnow I know has Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition. Is Pillars not a PC game? What exactly do you mean by PC game? Many of the games on psnow are on PC as well. Very confusing statement. How many xbox series X/S exclusive games does gamepass have? ZERO. So I am also confused with why you made that statement about no Ps5 games as well since thats the same thing with gamepass.
@Crows90 I don't think you understand us PC gamers. PS Now is great for giving PC gamers the ability to stream PlayStation exclusives but we would rather play them natively. Using your example, Gamepass offers us PC gamers the PC version of Pillars of Eternity that we can run natively versus PS now allowing us to stream the console version of Pillars of Eternity. Do you see the difference?
@Blade for that they'd need to open a platform on pc and have some deals and stuff with the companies so they approve for their games to be downloaded, i believe that sooner or later they will do so, I just hope they dont open a full store front app on pc tbh and if they do hopefully they keep publishing the other places; we got way too many launchers and store already
@Crows90 "I am also confused..." I agree. Part of the service of PS Now allows the subscriber to play PlayStation games on PC. There is a PS Now app you download and use to play whatever game from PS Now on your PC, but it is limited to STREAMING the PS4 version at 1080p. Thus, if I want to play Horizon: Zero Dawn on PC through PS Now, my only option is to STREAM the PS4 version at 1080p. No one who has built a gaming PC is going to have any interest in those wretched specs when there is a full PC version. To stream PS4 version at 1080p or.... https://steamuserimages-a.a... Tough choice. (one of my own captures from my PC, BTW) Imagine finding a PS4 gem you're eager to play but you are limited to STREAMING the PS3 version at 720p. You know this game is remastered/ improved for PS4 and has Pro and PS5 enhancements, but you get it only the PS3 version streamed at 720p. That's essentially the equivalent of what PS Now provides to PC gamers currently. That is not enticing to any PC gamer, the old version at what may be an even worse experience than playing it on a base PS4 because at least that is downloaded and coming off the drive. GamePass gives me access to the PC versions (all downloadable, too) of most of the Xbox library, including new games like Forza Horizon 5 and Halo: Infinite at specs potentially above the XSX. PS Now is not even remotely close to being competitive for its current state. It could be improved dramatically by giving subscribers some downloadable PS5 and PC games, but where it's at for higher spec platforms right now is awful.
@Blade Im primarily a pc gamer. So not sure what you think I dont understand. Im fully aware that if youre streaming psnow games on pc that you dont get pc versions of any of the games. But psnow was first and foremost for playstation consoles not for pc...that came later and as we know...playstation 1st party titles are mostly exclusive to the console...especially older titles. So your problem is with the exclusivity of 1st party games. So yes psnow for pc is not very useful to most. But psnow for playstation is easily comparable to gamepass on xbox. But youre wrong about gamepass..gamepass versions of games arent simply PC versions as you put it...theyre specifically gamepass versions...which is why some games dont work well through gamepass but perfectly through steam. Specifically skyrim and doom 3 which I still cant get working through gamepass.
It's true in a way I downloaded Forza horizons 100gb it was but because there's other games to try out you just leave it and go onto something else They should ditch day one titles and I stead flood it with last year's games etc
You'll probably be dissapointed. Obviously, there'll be a 1 year waiting period on Sonys first party games, but I think it's very likely that they'll start making third party day one deals. They've been toying with the idea on ps+ most of 2021.
three tiers PS+ PS+ & PS Now, combined PS+ & PS Now, combined, plus access to timed demoes
but I am really afraid that ps+ will keep the same price while providing a same basically horrible shit as xbox gold ( few shitty games but online play,..) But in a way this will only hurt them,.. I'd bet there is significant % of people that are on PS+ just for discounts and actually rarely play on line,.. and are still subscribed because sometimes they get something pretty great that they would have missed.
Ps+ offerings have been great. So many titles I wouldnt have otherwise purchased that are decent and many more that were either day1 titles or simply great games. the ps plus collection already has a huge amount of titles that are single player and significant. You really comparing it to games with gold? Just because you dont like the titles doesnt mean the value isnt there. With Gold there is barely any value but thats because they want to abandon it for gamepass.
Not comparing with gold nowadays,.. but that it may become that,.. That is what I worry about
I rekon. Ps+ with 2 free games.. Ps + 2 free games and ps4 library Ps+ 2 free games and ps1 ps2 ps3 & ps4 libraries. They could also have a tier for ps+ 2 free games + VR selection. Or.. psplus no free games but ps4 indies library. Etc etc. Many many options Thry have. Might be called ps+ silver gold and platinum? Or is that tll similar to Microsoft naming ?
Sounds like they're shitting their pants over Gamepass' success!!
Perhaps that's what you're hoping. Why would they when they are SELLING more games? When you have a great resume, you don't have to give away what's able to sell. GP isn't successful until other big box devs are putting their AAA games on GP day one. Name one AAA title, not released by MS, that's released day one on GP? I'll wait....remember I said AAA now.
Outriders, back 4 blood; certainly a couple of others... Either way GP is a success for gamers i dont think its profitable at all atm else MS would be boasting numbers (like they always do even when they say "we no longer share numbers")
Those are NOT AAA games....
Hmm. 1. I think they were first with psnow. (Even has more games and is cheaper - but doesn't include latest releases....there is more than enough content for the price) 2. Ps+ gives either 1, 2 or 3, sometimes big games and sometimes small independent games free (included in online subscription cost $50/ £36 per year) games per month for $5 if calculated per month. Usually these are 'Very' highly rated games. Some of these range from NEW to a few months old… to 1-2 years old. For the price, you can build an unbelievable collection of games for a fraction of the cost of gamepass. 3. It is believed Sony are working to get the ENTIRE PS1 PS2 & PS3 library's ready for streaming. (And perhaps download but that would be only to ps4/ps5 console,. Phone tablets and laptops would continue to stream just as it is currently) - I believe, although not sure... This is to prevent piracy,. Because if they allowed download to pc,. Very clever 'code wizzards'.. (let's not vall them hackers') could potentially get their noses deep into the games programming code and release it free as downloadable torrents, for anyone..anyone on PC that is . Which could be, complete guestimation here) approximately a quarter of the paying customer base, by that point) This is my views.
It has nothing to do with piracy, most of those games are already on pc and cracked already (and you dont get into the code of the game by just cracking it); it has more to do with licenses (guess they dont use pc version when available) and the infrastructure they use on PC; sooner or later they will implement download, that if they want it to succeed on PC
If this was game pass people would be kicking off. Keep the same energy people.
When do some understand that sont was first launching a service gaming with psnow at 2014. Microsoft just copy and launch their on 2017... Whatever they are doing is a evolution or maybe some kind of merging services... They already got the biggest service with PS plus and now they could put together.
IF they bundle it with ps plus it will be awesome, but I'd rather make a bet they cancel it completely
