Resident Evil Code Veronica Fan Remake Is Here; Check Out the 8-Minute Trailer

A fan remake of Resident Evil Code Veronica is on its way to PC, with an 8-minute trailer also revealed by the project developers.

love how it says "if Capcom decides to cancel this, the project is dead". Pretty sure that will be the case here, I'd be surprised if Capcom allows this to be completed. I swear, these projects need to be dead silent until it's done and then release the whole thing all at once. I'd love to play through this.

in the dark, dark, dark there was a dark, dark, dark.

While visually it looks good (aside from few points), it's very clunky so far, not sure if they'll be able to finish it in 2022. Don't get me wrong, it's a great work so far (especially for free, by fans), but a lot of the people called this «perfection» and «Million times better than Capcom» and, in my opinion, it's too far from perfection or better job than Capcom (which makes sense, since Capcom is so huge and have a lot of money). What i'm trying to say, people should stop overhyping everything.

As for issues i saw in the trailer:
- There needs to be something done with the lighting. It's ok to be dark or even pitch black in some areas, but it shouldn't be dark 99% of the time (at least trailer made it seem that way);
- Shooting feels unresponsive and doesn't have any noticable feedback (being attacked and stabbing too), sometimes it feels like player misses or don't damage the zombie (but that's not the case actually);
- Problems with the camera (stuck on objects, sometimes too close to character) and shadows;
- Prompts like "Climb the box" shouldn't be this long (probably should be automatic if you keep running into obstacle and it's climbable). Animation also look weird;
- Camera feels floaty or "drunk" (especially during shooting, like it dances around the target);
- Special effects need some work (like fire).

I do like the final cutscene, character models and environments. UI feels slow, but that's probably work in progress. They're using Unity, judging by the comments from the uploader (in case someone is interested).

So, why do these fan remakes? People sink a lot of time/effort into them, they give everyone a peek, and next they’ll be an article about the cease and desist from Capcom.

I just couldn’t imagine spending so much time on a thing that’s destined to fail. Am I missing something? Do all of these fan remakes live on some misfit island website/dark web after the lawyers clear out?

Resident Evil Zero & Code Veronica Remake Will Reportedly Not Be As “Ambitious” As RE4 Remake

RE4 was the least fucking ambitious what??

Vits272d ago

Maybe they are talking about lenght? Because RE4 Remake is definitely larger than the first two modern remakes.

Furesis272d ago

oh no, not another RE3 Remake

jambola271d ago

I really really hope they don't think it's "ambitous" to actually make the game a full game

lucasnooker270d ago

Understandable to me. RE4 is one of their most important title's compared to these. People like to complain about anything. Be happy RE4 turned out as good as it did…

jeromeface270d ago

Sorry but these titles walked so RE4 could run. Bottom line is they are longer games and capcom doesn't wanna set the expectations high. Which is disappointing.

Puty270d ago (Edited 270d ago )

Interesting. I would imagine it actually requires a lot more of work in terms of rewriting the story.

While I hated how they destroyed Nemesis in the RE3 remake, CV could really benefit from a major story overhaul. From the super corny opening action pumped sequence of Claire running from bullets to Jar Jar Binks level of writing of Steve character.

Redgrave270d ago

Steve is in dire need of remake redemption treatment. It worked for Carlos and Ashley, and made Luis better too.

VersusDMC270d ago

It's either like RE2 remake or they are keeping the static camera and redoing it in RE engine.

I think it will be like RE 2 remake and the not ambitious part is not making big set pieces or making it open with side quests like RE4 and Village.

If I have to decide between Code Veronica and RE5, then I go with Code Veronica Remake.

RE5 and 6 were more action oriented than survival horror.

robtion802d ago

Resident Evil 5 was an amazing game and pretty similar to RE4 in terms of its horror/action formula. It just couldn't top RE4 which was a standout game. Regression to the mean, y'know.

I agree the less said about RE6 the better though.

gleepot802d ago

I really don't think we will have to decide. It's clear these games are a huge success critically and commercially. They will remake CV, zero, 1, 5, and 6.

MADGameR801d ago

100% agreed, RE Code Veronica should be the next remake. I expect CAPCOM to bring out RE9 first though.
