Final Fantasy VII Remake PC Gameplay Looking Great and running Perfectly in 4K 120 FPS

CG writes: We take a look at the just released Final Fantasy VII Remake PC gameplay running the game on its (bare bones) highest settings and in 4K resolution at 120 fps. We’re not sure how much the game’s built-in dynamic scaling is affecting the quality. Regardless, for us it looks fantastic and runs well with minimal stuttering aside from during some cutscenes. The PC running this is an RTX 3090, i9 9900K combo and surprisingly, the game runs well from a standard HDD rather than SSD. The game is out now via the Epic Games Store for £69.99.

Thats absolutely not what Digital Foundry found out. Lackluster port, bad optimization, plenty of performance kinkys and bugs that even RTSS can't put a finger whats going on. Digital Foundry is not one to do an overly negative review, so lets see if they put it out.

You can see plenty of stuttering in this video though especially as they have it set to 120fps. Not sure why they chose to use that option.

CrimsonWing691248d ago

I’ll eventually get it since I’m an FF fanboy, but I ain’t touching it for $70. They have to be high as a kite to start selling PC games at that price and expect a ton of people to bite.

jeromeface1248d ago

why anyone would pay 70 for a portion of a game blows my mind.. wait for it to be finished and you'll pay far less.

CrimsonWing691248d ago (Edited 1248d ago )

I get what you’re saying but I think you’re looking at it from the wrong perspective. This feels like a full game and the way the story ends it’s leading to a sequel. It’s like saying wait until Resident Evil is finished telling it’s story until you start buying them.

I do understand your feelings on it, but I’m telling you from having played it that they wrote the story in such a way that it doesn’t feel like you’re cruising along with the narrative and suddenly hit a wall.

Another way to look at it is like how Empire Strikes Back ended. It felt like a complete story but you knew there’s a sequel. And c’mon man, ain’t nobody waiting that long to play these back to back 10 years from now.

Exvalos1248d ago

It's a full game, your statement is like saying your not going to pay to watch Spiderman homecoming until all 3 movies are on one disc for 20.00

FortWaba1248d ago

Like others have said, FF7R is a full package. I'd say it's got more meat on it that half the RPGs that come out nowadays.

The $70 price tag is absurd, of course.

Sephiroushin1245d ago

I could finish and get platinun on original FF7 before i could even complete FF7R second playthrough (Hard), its extended (and no, it doesnt feel dragged) to the point that a portion of the Original FF7 its its own game, even the DLC is longer than that portion of FF7!

Hopefully FF7R Part 2 feels the same!

There is also barely any options to customize the graphics, you can set textures to high/low and another option to high/low. No AA customization, no vsync options or anything. It's really disappointing.

deadfrag1248d ago

The problem is not even that because who the fuck cares of playing on ultra....when only 1% of people are able to do it!The real problema is that even with the settings available the game stutters and have issues!

Michiel19891248d ago

how do you mean thats not a problem? that is the standard for pc games, that you can tinker your settings to your liking. its not only for the people who play on ultra, but also for people with a pc on the lower spectrum, so yes it does matter.

i mean, weve been joking about this for a while now haha

they're gonna resell this trilogy for the next 20 years ha

but i wonder ... remake and rebirth already had to cut back on the psr4and ps5.

hows that gonna go on that inferior system?

andy8512d ago

Steam deck runs it ok and the switch 2 is more powerful (docked]. Handheld mode will be the interesting one

PRIMORDUS12d ago

No physical release GTFO. This game deserves to be in your collection, not some digital shit.

raWfodog12d ago

I can definitely see them offering a boxed collection of the entire trilogy after it’s completed. Or at least it would be a smart thing to do if Square wanted to bring in more money.

Why do we think this is coming out on Switch 2 before Xbox? Any thoughts? The S2 is not more powerful than the Series S so it’s not a ‘lack of power’ issue. Perhaps the sales forecast is higher on S2 than Xbox so that’s maybe where their priority lies?

jznrpg13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

It’s definitely a sales issue. If Xbox didn’t have players used to GamePass I bet it would be there already.

andy8512d ago

The fact people will buy it. Xbox gamers generally have minimal interest in this series. Portable Final Fantasy will go down a storm in Japan where the switch sells huge numbers

repsahj12d ago

Hamaguchi states not just the remake but the entire FF7 remake series.

repsahj12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

The Switch 2 version is really beautiful. It looked as good as the PS5 version.

But why? I mean cool and all just seems a bit random. Now if they could set a mode in Rebirth that makes these Brutal challenges easier then I am all for it...

JimBeans157d ago

Because they will release the games as a completed trilogy when the third one comes out but they need a way to deal with the boring sections.

SethNW157d ago

Probably features they are developing for future titles on same engine, or in other words third part, and they are easy and cheap to backport to released entry. Which also expands their options test feature in sort of safer environment, where it won't hurt anything if it isn't popular or used. Since everyone already bought the game. Plus they probably will want to eventually release whole trilogy as one game. Which will warrant feature parity between all three, so doing work ahead of time won't hurt.

Babadook7156d ago (Edited 156d ago )

"But why?"

Personally I like the "fast forward" as opposed to just "skip" for times when I need to replay a mini game thats combined with story (like the upper Junon 1st infantry mini game). I wanted to improve my result without skipping the part of the cinematic that reveals your result. This feature makes those moments more precise. There're probably plenty of times when this will be nicer.

andy85156d ago

I don't really see the point of speeding up cutscenes. Aren't they there to be enjoyed. And if you don't want to see them again..just skip them

jambola156d ago

Does it let me skip the forced cutscenes in battle?
like in the final battle where there's a full minute long unskippable cutscene?
will it finally do that, or do we have to wait for a pc release where 1 guys in his bedroom with no funding to fix this
