I kinda disagree. there were some great games, don't get me wrong but not every game is for everybody and just because they are exclusives doesn't make them the best. I loved Ratchet and Clank, I think Deathloop is great (even tho its actually a timed exclusive and also on PC) but stuff like Demons Souls and even Returnal are kind of niche. I'm also pretty burned out on superhero stuff at a time when Sony is going all in.

Conversely Xbox had a great year too but I feel it doesn't get recognized for. MS Flight Simulator is revolutionary in its execution and fantastic if you're an aviation fan, Forza Horizon 5 is hands down the best arcade racer on the market by a mile right now (see what I did there?), Halo Infinite brought the franchise back from the brink with outstanding, engaging gameplay (yes there are also some controversies) and all of these are available on gamepass.

If anything I'd say it was a good year for gaming in general.

For the PS5? Disagree there. How many PS5 exclusives did we get this year? Maybe a good year for Sony. Even then I was pretty underwhelmed with the selection. Don't get me wrong, there's been good games, just kind of an odd year where most of the didn't appeal to me.

Very forgettable. I have to start playing Kena but Returnal is definitely my GOTY. I would be at work sometimes thinking of a strategy to get through my next play of Returnal,that's how fun the game is.

I just simply don't believe anyone is being truthful that gives deathloop game of the year. It doesn't have the gameplay of deaths door or ratchet and clank. It doesn't hold a candle narratively to psychonauts 2 nor does it have the art style to match it. It doesn't do any thing best out of any characteristic you think of. It's just an average game. It's not even top 10 to me in any category.

Everyone has different tastes. I would never play the 3 games you listed but I did enjoy Deathloop. Hell, my GOTY isn't even this.. that would easily go to Doki Doki Literature Club Plus which I consider one the most brilliant gaming experiences of all time. It's all subjective, brother.

Clearly this one is a bit divisive but I'm making my way through it and having a blast. Can't say what my GOTY is yet as I haven't finished it. Although, I have always loved Arkane games and they are certainly tailored to a particular type of player.

Most people on this site except me. My tastes are always in opposition to alot of people on here, lol. You know what bores me? GTA, Horizon, God of War, Demon's Souls, Returnal, Spider-Man and so forth. You know the games I love? The Last of Us, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus, Cyberpunk 2077, Deathloop, Duke Nukem Forever and alot of visual novels.

ita a fun game, by no means a 10 though. id give it an 8. my goty is rift apart. returnal was also very good, i might rate returnal ahead of the rift apart but it waa so damn hard. took me quite a while to beat it. i platinumed rift apart in 4 days, but it was a really great 4 days. returnal was brutal but got a sense of accomplishment after finally beating it. kena eax anither great game and looked stunning on my new LG OLED. im thinking about jumping back into returnal and rift apart and replaying them on the new set. i remember being in awe of rift apart on my sony set, must look even more spectacular on a lg 4k oled set.

Played for 8 hours and dropped it when I realized it was one glorified fetch quest with terrible AI. Highly over rated.

Returnal had no fetch quest, it was all in your face action for the most part . The ai wasn’t in ReturnAl wasn’t as bad as the a.I in Deathloop before the update. The ai in Deathloop let’s you get away with a lot.

Wow, the amount of hate Deathloop gets is astonishing. It started since the first trailers and hate train seemed to only build up towards the release. I feel that people had already decided they don't like this game before even trying it. Personally I think it was an amazing game. Not really comparable to other GotY winners and not a 10/10 game but still a very solid experience. It's a complete package with great writing, amazing voice acting, unique atmosphere, fun and over-the-top action, multiple ways to play the game (it doesn't get repetitive or boring unless you always play the same way), etc. I don't think it does any part (apart from voice acting) exceptionally well but on the other hand it doesn't have any weak spots either. It is a highly enjoyable game if you give it a chance. Gamespot did good job at explaining the reasoning behind this choice. And like they stated, it's not everyone's game. It will divide opinions for sure and many think it's overrated.

And what other game should have won? Based on reviews I actually think the new Horza game would have deserved this title. On PS side Returnal is another good candidate and a true technical masterpiece. All of us can admire and value Returnal but let's face it: It's not super enjoyable for most of us due to high difficulty. But probably to ones who are good at it, it is a GotY. I don't think there one right or wrong GotY selection this year. No game clearly stood out. If Gamestop staff enjoyed Deathloop the most then they made the right choice. Opinions you know.

One of Returnal, Forza or It takes two. Even Halo has a shout depending on who you ask, best multiplayer in years.

For me it's be Forza, driving games get overlooked all the time and it's a shame.

Maybe Forza is getting overlooked because Playground can't get out of their own way with their buggy mess.
Release a patch, Series X (maybe S and others) and people get stuck in very long load times or just endless. They put out a fix to address the issue and instead of long/endless loads, they're now crashing the game. New patch comes out, it's back to long/endless loading.

Then they've getting ripped apart for the Forza Playlist stuff and how so many of them are messed up. The game has been out a month and a half and they're still screwing it up on a weekly basis.
