Richard Bailey of The Koalition writes: This past October, Eidos-Montréal and Square Enix released a very strong game of the year candidate with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Editor Adam Vale reviewed the game on PS5 and perfectly described it as delivering on the look and feel of our beloved hodgepodge team while promising fans a flarkin’ good time.
Eidos-Montreal and Square Enix's Guardians of the Galaxy is the latest free Epic Games Store game, and it's available until next week.
It amazes me how epic can give out free games like that. While Sony tied theres to a subscription
The game is totally a rush-to-market with some discount bling topping. It is quite worthy of a pass at free.
The best PS5 single player games have incredible cinematic storytelling, impressive combat, or in Astro's case, charming platforming.
Returnal honorable mention reason is dumb. It is a single player game with optional coop. Just like Elden Ring which is in the list.
Ratchet and Clank and Horizon are my picks. Miles and GoW are gathering virtual dust on the SSD. Good games just not as addicting as those imo. Returnal is best if you’re into that challenge.
No uncharted :( I had a blast playing the legacy of thieves collection at 120 fps.
In a world where superhero team-up games are clearly harder to do than some studios think they are, Guardians of the Galaxy nailed it.
Totally
This game was more respectful the comic books than the James Gunn films, it's kind of what I wanted from them but didn't get. It's packed full of lore and references, creating their own thing while still being respectful the source material.
Mantis alone was fantastic and they even gave her the mantis like blades
It was a great single player game filled with wonderful lore and nice touches. Journalists didn't cover it much either so I don't know what this person is on about.
Not sure Midnight Suns deserves that shoutout, I barely made it past the first act before it grew too stale and repetitive to continue and there was nothing more to explore/discover in the base... Might pick it back up again after a break but overall pretty disappointed.
Guardians of the Galaxy tho, that one was a masterpiece. Admittedly I was super sceptical when it was revealed, fortunately a friend then bought it and convinced me it was worth it.
Without a doubt, this is one of the best games of the year with both an emotional and enjoyable experience from start to finish.
Easily my GOTY. As much as I'd love a sequel, Square Enix has a ridiculously high standard for what they consider a "success".

Eidos Montreal would be the perfect studio to handle an X-Men game.
Enjoyed my time with it but was plagued with crashes for me until they updated it. Just part of playing a game on release I guess. Game is good though.
