andPOP Review: Spongebob Squarepants featuring Nicktoons: Globs of Doom

andPOP writes: "What can be said about Nickelodeon's Spongebob Squarepants featuring Nicktoons: Globs of Doom that couldn't be said about any other past Spongebob game? This title, recently released under THQ's new casual gaming label Play THQ, is more of a Nicktoons game in general than a flat out Spongebobber. With 10 characters to choose from, two from Spongebob Squarepants, two from Danny Phantom, two from Tak's world, Jimmy Neutron, and Invader Zim, each world takes one good guy and one bad guy and teams them up in bizzaro cartoon fashion. And it's not like Spongebob and Plankton team up, oh no, you get all sorts of wacky combinations like Spongebob and Beautiful, or Dib and Traloc. If these names don't mean much to you, perhaps this isn't the game you should be playing this holiday season."

IGN: SpongeBob SquarePants: Globs of Doom Review

Globs of Doom is a sub generic platforming title regardless of what licensed characters are involved. You'll see a lot of different areas thanks to the diverse cast of Nicktoons in the game, but gameplay lacks any diversity throughout. While characters are plentiful, all of the funny lines and funny NPCs come from SpongeBob and his Bikini Bottom friends. Ultimately, it's a subpar SpongeBob game with Nicktoons tacked on for good measure. Suffice it to say that no amount of licensed characters can save this game from its monotonous gameplay and wretched camera.

WorthPlaying Review: SpongeBob SquarePants featuring Nicktoons: Globs of Doom

WP writes: "It's hard to even imagine how much money THQ and Nickelodeon have made off of SpongeBob SquarePants, the little yellow guy who lives in a pineapple solely because the authors decided that he lives in a pineapple. His games may have been among the best-selling of all time for Nintendo's platforms, and this pattern has continued with highly successful works for the PlayStation 2 and Wii. When THQ couldn't make the innovative and quirky Drawn to Life work, they simply added SpongeBob SquarePants Edition to the name for an instant hit."
