Luke Hinton writes: "In Forza Horizon 5 races, drifting is the best way to speed past corners and get the edge on your opponents - and this is the best car to do it."
IGN: "The OG Xbox podcaster Danny Peña from Gamertag Radio joins us to discuss one of Xbox's "core four" franchises, Forza, heading to PlayStation 5 in the form of Forza Horizon 5. What does it mean for Xbox? And is any franchise "safe"? Plus: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is out and awesome (and successful), we show some love to one of the newest games on Xbox Game Pass that you might not be familiar with, and more!"
I just really hate IGN's style. It's not even the end of the world. While we understand the purpose of exclusivity, it really isn't that important to fuss over. Even if every Xbox game was on PlayStation, it's not gonna prevent people from enjoying Xbox.
The console wars are over. Good riddance. Can't wait to play Forza.
He's the Xbox guy if Xbox goes multi plat he's out of a job they split their staff into teams they have PlayStation, Nintendo and Xbox teams and run it almost like a sports thing it's kind of fross tbh.abyhiw they are all highly misinformed and freely spread incorrect information especially around hardware who can forget Ryan's claim that the Xbox series s was superior to the ps5 because of its CPU solely
@Eonjay
I hear ya. Exclusives really mattered in the console war. More so for the older gen. Newer gamers don't care so much. They just want to be able to play their games where ever they want. MS pushing all games everywhere has actually made N4G more tolerable. They're still some on here that think the metric is console sales but MS has actually been forced to do what gamers should have been asking for from the start. And that's all games playable on the console we want to play on. Now I'll always game on a xbox console while they have one but why would I cry over sony gamers playing gears/halo as well? Gamers have been conditioned into defending a plastic box by marketing. While admittedly it stung at 1st I'm glad gamers will be experiencing great games on great hardware, wherever they choose
***They're still some on here that think the metric is console sales but MS has actually been forced to do what gamers should have been asking for from the start.***
This is the new console war. People dictating how the industry should evolve and ignoring how console hardware is a strength for Sony and Nintendo. Stop trying to push the industry one way, let people do what is best for them. For Xbox, it's doing what they're doing. For Sony and Nintendo, it's different. But trying to set this paradigm of what people want? That's not how it works and console sales tell us that.
@Christopher
"People dictating how the industry should evolve and ignoring how console hardware is a strength for Sony and Nintendo. Stop trying to push the industry one way, let people do what is best for them. For Xbox, it's doing what they're doing. For Sony and Nintendo, it's different."
Maybe If Sony wasn´t releasing their games on other platforms, people won´t be drawing comparisons to MS.
And funny how people are "dictating" when they´re projecting their thoughts regarding Playstation business.
You do it yourself when comes to Microsoft. I remember when you said that MS would become a full third party publisher and in case/*IF* Microsoft decided and release a new Xbox console, it would be slightly more powerful than an Xbox Series X. So basically a PS5 Pro.
So it´s ok to "predict" things for Xbox, but when it comes to Playstation it´s "dictating" just because you don´t like it; even if people within the industry are the ones predicting things.
"Games cost too much to make, the console audience isn’t growing fast enough, and skipping Steam means missing out on a massive chunk of the market. This year, I think we’ll see Xbox go completely multi-platform and PlayStation get closer and closer."
https://tech4gamers.com/xbo...

Find the comment and prove it. I've said that they might become a third-party publisher, but never said they should. I in fact have said on NUMEROUS occasions that Xbox is necessary console competition for Sony and that them leaving the market is bad for the market as Sony will stop competing and do more Sony shenanigans.
@Christopher
"Find the comment and prove it. I've said that they might become a third-party publisher, but never said they should."
Most people are saying that Sony should follow MS just because they were the first to do it. I personally think whenever Sony decides and follow MS more closely (I don´t believe they´ll go all in day and date) it will be only because internal pressure to follow some market trend and not because they want to.
"I in fact have said on NUMEROUS occasions that Xbox is necessary console competition for Sony and that them leaving the market is bad for the market as Sony will stop competing and do more Sony shenanigans."
Fair enough.
^
Yeah, only difference is Sony pulled Concord from sale and offered refunds. MS actually approved Redfall for sale and tried to push that turd on customers.
The first of the big 3 Xbox franchises to jump ship with Gears of War and Halo heading to PlayStation and probably Switch 2 in the near future. Many people saying that this would never happen too. Yet here we are.
Yes, just like "many" people said Death Stranding and MLB The Show would never end up on Xbox. Or that 1st party Playstation titles would never be ported to PC. Other than Nintendo, everyone is heading in the same direction of making their games available on multiple platforms due to rising development costs. Xbox is simply moving in that direction at a faster pace. Glad we can put the stupidity of the console war behind us.
'Yes, just like "many" people said Death Stranding and MLB The Show would never end up on Xbox'.
Kojima acquired the IP rights to Death Stranding from Sony, the MLB license holder mandated a multiplatform release, Sony have been doing staggered PC releases for years. I dunno why you guys keep parroting this like it's the same as Microsoft starting to put their tentpole games on playstation, when it obviously isn't lol.
MS are doing what they are doing as they dropped 80 billion on massive publishers only to see their console sales continue to collapse and gamepass stagnate despite the addition of numerous big titles like Black ops 6 coming to the service day 1.
Death Stranding is not a first-party title, Sony does not own Death Stranding. MLB The Show is developed by Sony but it's licensed by the MLB which has total control, the very reason why years later both titles ended up on XB.
@logicneverwins
Well comeback when grand turismo goes to Xbox till then good luck with therapy🤷🏿
I love seeing you guys desperately cling to those two games. See Crash's comment. It's really sad guys
This Xbox just wants you to play the games is out right misleading. They changed direction because they had too. Like Sega Dreamcast, the reason this is happening is due to poor hardware and software sales.
If Xbox was in the driver seat this wouldn't be happening so please stop acting like it is for any other reason other than poor Xbox sales. IGN was a big stoker of the console war flames because you all chose to partake in it.
The Wii U was a failure for Nintendo and they continued to remain an exclusive game publisher/console maker.
You can say Sony will do this or is doing this with PC but it is for VASTLY different reasons.
Microsoft imposed this on Xbox because the console brand has been in a sales decline for a decade.
You only mention Sony and not Nintendo because you know Nintendo is not going this route any time soon because they don't have too.
If Sony consoles sales tank they will be forced to do the same. Let's not act like Xbox would be doing this if they had the hardware sales Nintendo or Sony have.
"There's no way Sonic would ever come to Nintendo!"
Ha, I feel like this is my childhood all over again.
I think most of the people who said it wouldn't happen have changed their minds when Xbox started putting 1st party on PS5. I think most of them want more of that, but they also want PS5 to put onto Xbox same day and date. I wouldn't harp on the opinions of people before the put Sea of Thieves, Grounded, and others on PS5. They obviously saw a change after that.
“Yes, just like "many" people said Death Stranding and MLB The Show would never end up on Xbox”
I actually never heard anyone say this. Death Stranding was talked about being timed even before its release.
And a certain crowd trying to criticize it for being a walking simulator, before it got announced for xbox, and then the, 'walking simulator', talk suddenly disappeared.
no offense but porting over a 3 year old title isn't exactly anything to write home about. If MCC does indeed come to other platforms that's an 11 year old title.
When a brand new Forza, Gears or Halo game comes to PS5 day and date, then that's something. I will believe it when I see it.
This is just about squeezing some more dollars out of a game that already sold extremely well and isn't going to attract much of a new audience.
They likely wont day and date, but you can believe they will within 6 months. It isnt about squeezing extra dollars out of old games. They have to put old Halo titles because there hasn't been one released for 4 years this year. And the last Gears isn't even this generation. But you can bet your bottom dollar the next ones will be on other consoles within months.
"But you can bet your bottom dollar the next ones will be on other consoles within months."
You bet your bottom what?😆
I mean porting over a game that is over 3 years old kinda sounds like squeezing extra money out of it. Why does Sony bring games to PC a year later? Because they are nice?
You can't be serious. I thought you were much better than that. Not even Obscure or that Alt even thinks this.
Meh whatever. You're the same guy thought Game Science was lying when any ounce of effort into reading beyond what was purposefully fed would have led you to the likely right conclusion. I don't really understand why things need to be spelled out. You're acting like a couple of weeks ago people weren't on here saying this will never happen. Now all of a sudden this some obvious move to squeeze money out of older titles and not a step into bringing all their games over to all platforms.
First it was just games that already had contractual obligations.
Then it was just 4 titles Phil announced.
Then it was just franchises that weren't the traditional MS studio titles.
Now it's sure it's MS studio titles but only ones that are 4+ years old.
You think it stops there or will it inch closer to being day and date? "Sorry to disappoint you", I won't answer and instead will let you come to your own conclusion on that one.
sorry to disappoint you was in regard to you insulting me. When Forza Horizon 6, the next Gears and Halo 6 (or whatever we are calling it nowadays) release day and date for PS5, then we can have that discussion.
Next thing you will say is when they eventually port over the 10+ year old MCC it's not to try to make more money off of it.
Yeah they are trying to make money off of it, but I don't see your point?
Again, literally 2 weeks ago what you are saying now about games releasing day and date on PS5 is what people were saying about 4+ year old Forza, Gears and Halo... " I'll believe it when I see it" so obviously these games being ported over no matter how old is significant.
If you refuse to see the trend, I guess I shouldn't be surprised since you were also the same person that refused to see truth in the Games Science debacle when you lol'd at Game Science when they said they were having optimization issues with Series...
Let me guess you wouldn't find it a big deal if Sony ported over their older titles to Xbox right?
They invested 80 billion and didn't see the results so they pivoted. That's called business. Yes in a perfect scenario gamers would buy into Xbox ecosystem and sign up for GP. But since that didn't happen MS decided we can generate a lot of revenue and become the biggest gaming publisher while still providing great value through GP for Xbox gamers
IMO they should just release gears and halo already. Yes for few weeks some gamers will make fun of them but in the long run the extra revenue will be proof enough. Those asking where is value for Xbox ganers need to realize if you have a Xbox platform or pc GP you get all there games on there day one while on every other platform ganers have to pay full price for these games (unless they want to wait for a sale)
I don’t think GamePass is going to exist for very long. If they’re making good money as a publisher but Gamepass is stagnant they will think about getting rid of it. If gamepass declines it’s guaranteed
We have to realize MS can eat a lot of the cost for a long time. Plus them releasing their games elsewhere makes them a lot of money so they can fund GP. Their end goal is to have GP on all platforms but let's
'We have to realize MS can eat a lot of the cost for a long time.'.
That's not how businesses work. They've just blown, what, 80 billion? And you think the shareholders want them to eat more cost?
'Plus them releasing their games elsewhere makes them a lot of money'
Got any data on that?
'so they can fund GP.'
Why would they need to fund GP if it's profitable?
'Their end goal is to have GP on all platforms'
Actually, the goal they publicized is 100 million GP subscribers. With xbox hardware dead in the water, good luck with that.
@Knushwood Butt exactly right. GP hasn't even hit 30m yet. They were looking for that number years ago. Still not there? No, they will not be wasting money for too much longer on it. Two years ago, they stated they were looking for 50m to be sustainable; it's only a matter of time before they call it quits on GP at this point. What I suspect will happen, the service will turn into what Playstation Plus does, essentially. It'll give you massive discounts on newly released titles, and you'll still have access to older titles that rotate in and out, but they will not release day and date titles on the platform for "free" any longer.
Ok, if they stop Gamepass in two years like you say or change it to be more like playstation plus the negative press will bury them
Personally, in my opinion, I think they want to stop Gamepass. But they know they're in it too deep to stop. And with COD still not being enough to drive growth, I can see them wanting to waive the white flag on gamepass
@Lodo
They were thought to have been in too deep when they got into the phone business too. At some point, shareholders will demand an end to services which aren't making enough of a return (let alone a loss).
Another factor folk don't consider is that it is highly doubtful Sony and Nintendo will ever allow gamepass on their ecosystems. Each has there own competing platform and each make money for every MS published game sold on their respective digital stores.
@LoveSpuds
"Another factor folk don't consider is that it is highly doubtful Sony and Nintendo will ever allow gamepass on their ecosystems"
Everytime I brought that fact up I was called a fanboy
But with the Zune and Windows phones, they got out pretty early before it got out of hand.
Gamepass they've pushed hard for almost 8 years. And they advertised it in a way that makes people feel Gamepass is the only reason to even deal with Xbox at this point. If they stop it or even change it to a model like Playstation's that could very well be the end of Xbox period
Knu
Yes data is they were the #1 publisher in month of December and most of that income came from playstation. And I don't think that's how shareholders work. There is a thing called long term investments and right now for MS gamepass is a long term investment
So it proves 2 of my points. They can keep their bare happy by releasing games on GP day one and they can make a lot of money from other platforms. Right now they haven't released on switch 2 so once that comes out that's another platform for them to make money. Xbox made over 15 billion in revenue so it's not like that they are going broke anytime soon.
Microsoft's fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30. Therefore, fiscal year 2023 (FY23) covers July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023, and fiscal year 2024 (FY24) spans July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024.
Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23):
Gaming Revenue: Microsoft's gaming revenue for FY23 was approximately $18.128 billion, marking a 16.5% increase from the previous year.
Profit: Specific profit figures for the Xbox division in FY23 are not publicly disclosed.
Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24):
Gaming Revenue: In FY24, Microsoft's gaming division achieved a record-breaking revenue of approximately $21.52 billion.
Profit: While exact profit numbers for the Xbox division in FY24 are not publicly available, Microsoft's overall net income for the fiscal year was $88.1 billion, a 22% increase from the prior year.
The significant growth in gaming revenue during FY24 is largely attributed to Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which was completed in October 2023.
LOL!! XB loses more & more of their exclusives to be put on other competing consoles. Soon to becoming a 3rd party developer & publisher only.
Surely this is one game (other than Halo) that would benefit from having VR2 compatibility.
It should look excellent and run even better on the PS5 Pro.
In other news did anyone on here report the Capcom Marvel Vs Capcom fighting collection launched on Xbox? I may have missed it, just saw it on another website.
PS5 and Switch 2 will be the ideal setup to enjoy games going forward from here. More and more Xbox games are going to PS5. Great times ahead.
Im excited about this. Forza is one of the franchises I miss, from the xbox. Im happy, these games are going multiplatform. Sony should do the same.
I genuninely don't see an issue, either Xbox does something different or there won't be an xbox. They do have to come up with a reason for people to purchase the next xbox console, what that will be I have no idea.
Its an old game its not like they are getting the newest version same day that will not happen. I think its great more sales for Forza and sony users finally get the best arcade racer this generation.
Typical Microsoft, still no actual release date despite announcement. They broke this news too early and it’ll likely come in a hot, buggy and not optimized mess for the PS5 or Pro.
Think about it, they release games too early and in a terrible state on their own consoles
Motorsport has been awful, generally Horizon has been in a much better state and gets issues patched fairly quickly.
Ole phil ripped that band off, about time, only been saying since 2020 that they need to do this🤷♂️
I’ll wait for all DLC, patches, and a discount, because you already know these games are coming in full price, not complete, and looking to gouge the PS consumer.
I think the concept of exclusivity just doesn’t work anymore. Games are just too expensive to make. And honestly it gets frustrating and creates petty “wars”. At this point I’d rather just choose the hardware that feels right and have access to most games. The competition should lie in the quality of the games, not the who sells more consoles. Gamers don’t really benefit from much from sales numbers, but they do benefit from a competition of quality - a race to the top rather than to the bottom.
Nintendo and Sony create amazing exclusives that move hardware. Microsoft is terrible at quality software and allowing games to cook until ready.
Stop acting like this is an industry move and strategic vision.
Lifetime sales of the PS5 have outpaced those of the PS4 by 7%, while Xbox Series consoles have fallen 18% behind Xbox One in the US.
This is the reason period! That's why they don't mention Nintendo because they would sound even more foolish. Xbox is doing this because of sales. Economics 101.
New drivers will soon arrive at the Horizon Festival from PlayStation 5.
Well, we knew it was going to happen, can’t say it’s surprising
I can’t wait to see you know who’s spin on this one especially when he said this would never happen.
Next is Halo, Gears or Fable
Halo has repeatedly been a rumoured game on here. Forza strangely quiet.
Very happy with Forza announcement because I enjoy racing games.
Forza should be a major wake up call because compare this with Sea of Thieves, Forza is a massive and popular game.
Yep Halo, GoW, Fable are definitely next.
I'd say next is Master Chief Collection and then Starfield.
But I wish it's the time Sunset Overdrive returns home.
@RaidenBlack
" But I wish it's the time Sunset Overdrive returns home "
There's a possibility now with Microsoft's publisher like approach they could let Insomniac re-release it on PS5, either that or a remake. If the sales are decent they might be allowed to make a sequel.
@Raiden... SSOD would make for a great olive branch to bridge relations. Id love to see a 4k 120 mode for it on PS5. I had to play it on the steam deck due to 60fps support. Same with Quantum Break and Ryse. All of those are better suited to 60fps instead of the 30 on XB.
"I can’t wait to see you know who’s spin on this one especially when he said this would never happen."
Obscure_Observer 😂
Yeah, this is great, I'm not too fussed about Forza horizon, I'll probably get it in a sale but can't wait for Halo and Gears to come on playstation, had so much fun when I was younger playing them at my mates house, hopefully it's soon
I would love for it to be Fable. It's really the only game from Microsoft I've ever wanted to play, and so I always do it on PC
What if, and hear me out, they release all their games on PS5 this generation because they clearly lost this one, build a fan base showing how great their games are, and hi back to exclusivity in 2 years in their next Gen?!
Just a thought
@GamerRN
Let's say that's their plan, it won't work. Why? Because coming into next gen most are expecting to not having to buy a Xbox to enjoy their games. Even if Microsoft announces this, it won't be enough to convince most people that they won't cave and drop exclusivity down the line because we've all gone through Microsoft's song and dance before. It would also mean Phil is a liar once again with all this "pro consumer" talk of not gate keeping games.
Just a thought
@Outside
That's one thought... But if they release a wildly popular console with incredible power, great price, AND GamePass while capturing new fans, they have a better chance then trying to just go to the next Gen with keeping exclusivity...
I think it's their best bet and let's then keep getting sales to gauge what games really are good...
I love how the masters of deception at Microsoft are spinning this around to make the world believe that this move was a highly coordinate and long planned one. Microsoft has been irrelevant in the game industry for a while now, few francises aside their trajectory has been always toward the bottom. Now they carve the "EVERYthing is an XBOX" marketing BS and take the SEGA route. I understand that after all the money they have spent they have to get on the positive cashflow, but I feel a sense of betrial toward their long time supporters ... imagine if it was SONY behaving this way !!
Thanks I will. I will gladly give MS my money when they bring games over. The more games they bring over, the more I'm starting to like them hahahahahaha. Playstation FOR THE WIN
@Sonic1881
"Pretending like you're happy about it 😂😂"
Lol. You though I would be on suicide watch or something. Think again! XD
More paying customers is always great news for Game Pass users on Xbox and PC.
Forza Horizon 5 will be nothing but another Xbox banger on Playstation.
Enjoy!
@Obscure
If you aren't pretending now, were you pretending here?
https://n4g.com/news/264132...
A couple of months ago you told PS5 gamers to ‘keep dreaming’ when someone suggested this was going to be announced at the Game Awards. I guess ‘dreams’ still do come true even a couple of months later.
@Obscure
"More paying customers is always great news for Game Pass users on Xbox and PC."
It's wild how many of you brazenly try to switch it up like no one can see what you said on the internet.

He won´t be able to avoid anything! Lol!
He´s the one who promoted Sarah in the first place!
He´ll be forever cursed by the die hard and overall Xbox community! If going full multi platform are his plans and ultimate goal, he better put that Jim Ryan´s hat trick and retire from gaming and disappear just like Don Mattrick did.

"I personally think this is an extremely shortsighted decision. Just when Xbox is getting a decent slew of exclusives you're gonna give up? There is really no scenario where this is gonna be good for Xbox consoles. No matter how they spin this."
Indeed.
Doesn´t make sense at all! Specially when Satya Nadella himself is boasting amazing numbers post ABK´s acquisition, telling everyone how Xbox is now Microsoft´s third biggest business!
I can´t believe that Phil made his way all the way to the top, just to turn his back on Xbox gamers.
I don´t know the reasons why he decided and gone silent regarding all those rumors, but he won´t be able to remain silent for long.

'Add Forza Horizon 5 tags (this includes PS5)' ~ Me, 5 years ago, wouldn't have believed this report on N4G
Microsoft is like a ravished vampire that's tasted some of that PS5 blood (profits) with Sea of Thieves and now has gone ravenous for those PlayStation dollars!
@ Maximus: “Woo hoo!
Seems Sony turned MS into Sega lol”
.
I wouldn’t say Sony but Microsoft laziness and arrogance turned them into Sega minus 1.0as sega was a great and honorable competitor plus had good consoles and excellent games.
Edit:I didn’t disagree with your comment also
Can a admin do a welfare check on obscured I’m worried about what he might do to.
Look at these comments. The copium from some lol
https://n4g.com/news/264132...
with this, I guess it's almost over now for xbox, console-wise. once Halo crosses over, then there shouldn't even be any xbox loyalist anymore like there is no Sega loyalists nowadays.
but it's ironic that after all those fightings in the court, for Sony to end up not only retaining CoD but now also xbox flagship titles on their console, who would have guessed?
Why can't we just say nice to have more great games instead of bringing one company or another down or throwing negativity towards them
Thank you Xbox for making your games available on all platforms
Lol, you ran out of words. Be grateful that MS will get more money just like CoD
"Lol, you ran out of words. Be grateful that MS will get more money just like CoD"
YES!
I still hate that Driveclub was killed off.
No 1st party non-sim racer on PS since.
So, Horizon 5 on PS basically fills that void.
Hope Sony resurrects the Motorstorm IP.
Lol you forgot how business works. Your being payed to have it on your platform. Profits are coming both sides. Only difference is Sony didn't have lift a finger. Easy money.
Horizon and Motorsport are different series of Forza and different genres.
PS would benefit from a new non-sim racer and hence Horizon 5 will fair better. PS players prefer GT more anyway in sim category and the new Motorsport will have hard time competing here (but a sidenote ... Forza do pump out Motorsport more frequent than GT, since they have a bigger team)
And imho, the last Forza Horizon is better than the latest Motorsport, so this decision makes more sense. And dare I say its the best open world racer? Dont think the latest Crew is better though. Leave a reply if you can think of a better newer open world racer than FH5.
@ obscured: “Geez, this game is ancient. 2021…
Put the new one on there”
Your sourness is showing on your alt account names 🤣.
I won’t report this one as spam unless you keep spamming your sour bitter comments
All of Microsoft’s offerings are ancient…
Outside of their little circle, they did not make any new AAA games for over a decade.
the new one is already being massacred by GT7 popularity-wise.
I think it wouldn't look good for MS to bring over the least popular one over to PS5 first. FH5 now has a 24H peak of over 19k while the new one only 841 on Steam. even FH4 has over 12k of 24H peak. what a shamble that one was.
this is why it's coming. Are we expecting FH6 to launch day and date on PS5?
That being said, it's an amazing game and there will be so much content there.
I don't know if Sony would want MS to put Forza Motorsport on their console as it would be a direct competitor to Gran Turismo.
This doesn't look like a Bethesda or Activision title to me, but I could be wrong.
https://n4g.com/news/265098...
Look at that link and read the comments. Some were saying they wouldn't be convinced unless titles like this were going full multiplat. Maybe they are convinced now?
Weird. I’m pretty sure there are already a lot of non-Bethesda, non-Activision games by Xbox studios on PS5 and Switch.
Anyway - this game is ancient. Sony brings games to PC quicker than this
I am convinced.
My only hope is that they keep releasing hardware, this way we get a lot more players across great titles like this.
I think they release one more console and look at the performance from there and determine their future in regards to that. They should have a much more realistic expectation of how it should perform this go around. We do know that they have a handheld in the works as well
I think both MS and Sony only release one more console
PC is taking over, and they both know it
They have another gen in them but the one after the next could be questionable imo. Hey Xbox said they're positioning themselves to be a publisher across the industry. No red lines and all. Xbox only fans need to think bigger than their box bit the health of the industry as a whole. Especially with Ubisoft failing and EA starting to not do well.
Microsoft are effectively killing off their console brand. Don't expect them to put a ton of R&D budget into next-gen hardware.
If they're making another Xbox, you're probably gonna get something that's closer to a pre-built PC with an Xbox logo on it. Using off-the-shelf parts, running a limited version of windows in a fancy custom case.
If they're still naive enough to put their hope into Gamepass growth, they might still want to offer some cheap low-end entry point, but If they tear down their walled garden and allow competing storefronts like steam on there, I would expect potential future Xbox hardware prices to generally rise. Subsidizing an open platform simply doesn't make much sense.
Yeah I remember that, I'm also curious of what they think now. They'll probably make up some other coping talk
So... you never heard of Nintendo I take it. Or are you calling Nintendo Anti-consumer? Also that's silly on its face. It's like calling HBO for not putting its shows on Disney Plus.
Nintendo is one of the most anti consumer companies around, and neither Disney plus nor HBO are hardware
Who is to say a game like Shadow of the Colossus would even exist if it wasn't funded by Sony in order to entice consumers to their platform? Halo was going to be a RTS for Macs before MS stepped in because they needed a game to sell their Xbox. Exclusives also take full advantage of the hardware they are released on, meaning the game can be the best it can be.
Nothing anti consumer about this, nobody stops you from owning multiple platforms.
"and neither Disney plus nor HBO are hardware"
So Tying Software to a service is better though right?
You sound like an entitled consumer. You have no concept of what a USP is or its point.
Actually it's up to the publisher. I have a feeling that Microsoft would rather get the premium sale.
Sony dont have tp pay for it, they get 30% of every game that MS puts on Playstarion, and they have to pay zipp nadda nothing, to MS...
PS has so many good shooters over the past decades. This adds to their growing list.
Someone needs to bring back that black FPS from the PS2 it had the destructible environment and everything. I'm sure they can improve on it with the new tech.
Your welcome Playstation only gamers. Your playstation is now a xbox.
Bigger than Sega by a ton. Just go ahead and start giving up that money to Microsoft. In this relationship Microsoft is the pimp so you know ow what that makes sony.😆 sony won a battle but Microsoft is winning the war.they are now the biggest publisher on playstation. My oh my. Now playstion will be helping fund more games from Microsoft. Checkmate. Now sony greatest fears have come true. This is why they tries to stop the ABK deal. This is just too good.
@Reaper22_
"Now playstion will be helping fund more games from Microsoft. Checkmate. Now sony greatest fears have come true. This is why they tries to stop the ABK deal. This is just too good."
Sounds like more cope from someone who was blindsided by this pivot and is trying out new talking points.

I don't want to reply directly to an alt, but is MS actually manufacturing consoles right now? Seems to me they are desperately trying to get rid of dead stock.
Absolutely.
Forza Horizon 5
Doom: The Dark Ages
Indiana Jones
New Diablo IV Expansion
So far Xbox has more first party games announced/confirmed for Playstation this year than Sony itself!
Let´s see what Sony will bring on the rumored State of Play next month!
Xbox games on Xbox console= First party
Xbox games on PlayStation and Nintendo= 3rd party
But these are no longer considered 'first party' games since Xbox is a third-party publisher now. What's the difference between Xbox and every other publisher that makes their games available across multiple consoles? They're like Ubisoft now. But I love it though. I'm not hating on them at all for their new hustle. They aren't competing against Sony anymore and look at them more like a partner now.
@raWfodog
"But these are no longer considered 'first party' games since Xbox is a third-party publisher now."
You mean like all those games from Playstation studios that are now available on Steam?
"What's the difference between Xbox and every other publisher that makes their games available across multiple consoles?"
Biggest publisher in the world, also console manufacturer. That´s the difference!
"They aren't competing against Sony anymore and look at them more like a partner now."
I agree. They´re not competing anymore. Playstation is just another business partner and revenue stream.
“ You mean like all those games from Playstation studios that are now available on Steam?”
You’re trying to equate a dozen or so PS games on Steam to a third-party publisher making their games available for all platforms? Okay.
Be truthful now. A year ago, would you have ever imagined Xbox going from third place to third-party? Nothing is wrong with that at all, mind you. Its just that a lot of people would have never thought that Xbox would have allowed their games on ‘rival’ consoles.
And they will lose a lot of first party games..because they are defenetly going third party keep coping
"You're" btw. That's also a weird spin with massive amounts of copium, xbox is officially dead, they are now a 3rd party publisher, they lost.......the end.
Not quite. Everything you boot up the 3rd party stuff you will be reminded that xbox is now taking your money. Your money will now help fund PC and xbox games.
@Reaper
You should be more worried about Microsoft being reminded of where their bread is buttered every time they get a sale from PS.
I can't understand why you guys are still trying to keep the console alive. It's over. Sony won. Move on. Microsoft has clearly accepted that.
there are 7 stages of grief. be patient, they are still in the earlier stages it seems
And Xbox is losing console exclusive games...so thereis your answer, keep coping...
Okay.
Now I'm convinced Microsoft is going all in.
This does it
Halo and Gear next
Full third party fiesta
Nintendo consoles survived, despite SNES selling worse than NES, N64 selling worse than SNES, GameCube selling worse than N64 (and even the OG Xbox).
Switch wouldn't be the success it is, if Nintendo didn't flop with the Wii U that sold... 13 million, if even?
The Series consoles are ahead of the OG Xbox. Sales aren't improving but let's stop acting like Xbox is this catastrophic failure that eclipses that of the Wii U.
Edit: so to answer, yes - other platform holders have had even rougher goes, Xbox is just weathering this differently
The console is no longer the center of their business model. Players are.
Which is why they went after Sony's install base too. . And soon Nintendo's
Sony won the console war. It's over.
However, there's something else brewing here.
MS/Xbox has positioned itself in another space. They wanna be everywhere, literally.
Providing software and services is their primary model now.
Gamepass is their own "exclusive". For that they still need their own hardware.
This is the new Xbox.
Nintendo is the only one left that uses the ancient model of using exclusives to sell hardware.
@taco, neat perspective, never thought about that
@truth, when I step back it doesn't look that novel... Xbox becomes a third party publisher and Sony and Nintendo's business models stay the same. GamePass without exclusives is just a cheaper way to play games, and I don't know if that's "special" or even sustainable
Thank you, coconuts!
I would say though that Nintendo and Sony have both changed business plans quite a bit.
Nintendo, generation after generation, had declining console sales save for the Wii. They were untouched though in handheld. So they pivoted - effectively ditched consoles in favor of this handheld that can be plugged into a TV. They knew they couldn't compete with PS and Xbox.
Sony pivoted too. They abandoned the handheld market after two platforms. During the PS4 generation they bucked industry trends and really doubled down on core, single player narratives, despite having a lot of multiplayer modes and titles during the PS3 era.
PS3 era also saw them losing developer support. The PS4 was kind of a reboot for PS from a developer standpoint too.
PS5 sees yet another Sony pivot to GaaS across their entire first party for the first half of the generation. This time though the market is so different that despite how much PS Studios has changed, the PS5 is selling better than the 4.
The Nintendo case study doesn't answer the question, 'can Xbox consoles survive without exclusives?'.
Nintendo literally survived because of their exclusives.
@Crazy
"Sony and Nintendo's business models stay the same."
The vintage Sony I know would not have so many games on PC.
Having games elsewhere is multiplatform.
The vintage Sony I know would not attempt 12 live service games.
Nintendo doubled down on their strengths as a side effect of Wii U failure.
WiiU had exclusives but still failed.
Nintendo focused on their strengths, Handheld. They don't sell consoles at a loss and their games dont cost as much as Sony and MS to make.
Nintendos business model is sustainable for now.
Microsofts Gamepass is 7+ years old. You're still unsure if it's sustainable when they're now leveraging other platforms too? :) okay.
Sony most definitely did not remain the same.
"That’s according to Xbox head Phil Spencer, who, as revealed by the FTC v. Microsoft documents that were released and subsequently removed today, told lawyers during a court event that Xbox would “exit the gaming business” if it failed to get 100 million customers to sign up for Game Pass by fiscal year 2027."
This is sustainable? :)
Releasing older games on PC is an adjustment.
Trying their hand on live service vs. single player is an adjustment.
Those adjustments come and go and hopefully Sony learns from them.
However I think the core BUSINESS MODEL - the way in which Sony makes money - is still generally the same.
Sell customers a console as a platform, get them to buy all their games from your store, collect a portion of that revenue. Sell hardware and accessories to compliment the platform.
Use 1st and 3rd party exclusives and various innovations to differentiate from competitors and lock gamers into the platform.
It's been the same for a while.
I am now fully convinced that almost all, if not all, Xbox games will go Multiplatform. Will they all be same-day releases on all platforms, or will they stagger them like Indy?
I hope this enables them to keep creating hardware and offering GP, as I still think it's a fantastic service.
Theyre pushing Gamepass still so they'll likely stagger the releases with a few months exclusivity.
Just speculating of course, but I think Xbox was pushing for being the Netflix of Gaming, and following a similar business model.
Netflix's model was to not worry about profit as long as they had insane revenue growth. Then when growth stagnates and you have a captive audience, focus on profit (less expensive content + raise prices).
I feel Satya gave us a hint of what's coming now: focus on profitability. Even after COD on GP, growth has stagnated so time to make this profitable. I don't know if GP will be as attractive (especially on PC) after they do that.
I honestly think they will continue to do hardware even if it is a high end box that this designed to compete on the mainstream. And as long as Sony and Nintendo don't allow GP, I think Xbox is safe.
Not all games will be day and date at least not at first. Take South of Midnight. The team is small and the have been working on the Xbox version for years already. They will port it later.
There better be a complete playable build on disc (unlike the Xbox version)...
Apparently if you buy Indy on disc you have to download the entire game.
I guess MS did the calculations and realized it's cheaper to just send the data rather than burn it to a disc.
Not very consumer friendly though is it?
Having played it on laptop it'll do very well. There isn't much like it on PS. Can't compare it directly with GT7. That's more like Forza Motorsport
The most excited person today is Herman Hulst, who gets to celebrate another Horizon title coming to PS5
So now it's less "respected"?
It's also still a first party game.
I think the fact that many more people will play it would make it more "respected"
@gold_drake
He was more capable of appreciating a joke back when he was yucking it up with the rest on that article Abriael did about the mod for salty PS fans to make the Starfield menu show it as a PS exclusive:
"Hahaha, This is great!
"Hahahahaha, the overall salt is so real, this is the ultimate port begging."
https://n4g.com/comments/re...
"Lol, I'm not begging for anything lmao.
"I played all the games you named...because I play everywhere lol.
"Come on man, they modded a PS logo in a game that is not on PS, how is that not hilarious!?
"But on, my awareness is lacking lol."
https://n4g.com/comments/re...
(Edited for language.)
"You again, I don't give a s*** what game is where because the name you gave me is fitting...I own them all. Let's be real it is super f****** funny that they modded a PS logo in a game not on the platform...it's funny, just acknowledge it's hilarious, a guy even created a SF PlayStation 5.....it's crazy stuff lol."
https://n4g.com/comments/re...
Phil must have ported away thesoftware's sense of humor.
Feel free to make use of that comment section gold mine as Xbox ports more games to PS.
@RauLeCreuset
Thanks for not letting him of the hook lol.
Didn't for get about this joke telling folks to "relax a bit" Maybe he should heed that here 😂
https://n4g.com/news/264371...
I really don't understand the correlation between what you posted and this comment, this is about a single game, and the game being first party or "respected ".
The things you mentioned is irrelevant and a major stretch at best.
Me not seeing the humor in post stating that a game may possibly be somehow less respected because it's multiplatform is just plain and simple. I asked a few questions and made a factual statement, and when he said it was a joke, I admitted that I missed the humor and said "my bad".
These is no gotcha moment here, there is no letting me off the hook, and the past post you posted was weak at best. I am far, far from "salty", believe me this or none of the other situations in gaming bother me, 99% of my post has nothing to do with hating another system...I usually point out hypocrisy.
Letting me off the hook, haha, that is rich, as if I'm on the hook somehow. But I'm glad you fellas feel that way, and I'm able to give you a sense of a.....win?
Oh, PS.
It's a fact that I own every system, except the PS5 Pro, but you lot feel the need to think gaming is locked to a certain box, that's why things similar to this does not affect me in the slightest...and even if I didn't, I still don't really care...this is my truth.
@thesoftware730
It was a joke. Relax a bit.
Was showing examples of where you were joking and others didn't find it funny or understand and you told them to lighten up.
Calm down and relax a bit. It was a joke
@ Outside,
Yeah, but missing humor in something is not a big gotcha moment (especially in text form). I didn't even argue with Raul, I simply asked a question and pointed out that it was still a first-party game, and then even admitted that I was confused and did not get the humor, then acquiesced.
Not finding something funny and not knowing something was a joke are two different things. The fact that I admitted that much, and you two still came in heavy-handed and seemed to be looking to beef is a bit suspect, but once again, I relent and will move on.
Interesting time in gaming, I'm sure we will communicate again lol.
This is about the only part of your post worth a response.
"I asked a few questions and made a factual statement, and when he said it was a joke, I admitted that I missed the humor and said 'my bad'."
Why frame it like you were just asking a few questions and apologized for missing the humor after learning it was a joke? This is the internet. We can see your passive aggressive response.
"I was not offended.
"I was more confused by the 'joke' as it didn't really contain any really humor.
"My bad if I offended you by asking questions and making an observation about your joke
"My bad."
It would be more respectable if you weren't always trying to throw rocks and hide your hand. Stop throwing rocks and trying to hide behind "I own every system" when you get caught. If you're going to do it, own it.
You knew it was a joke. You didn't like the joke. You were in your feelings and didn't like the joke because this joke was on Xbox for losing an exclusive instead of on PS gamers for missing out on an Xbox exclusive.*** I will credit you for telling the funniest joke in the thread:
"I usually point out hypocrisy."
***There's your connection to the Starfield article since you like to point out hypocrisy. Buckle up. Phil may be cooking up some more jokes at your expense on that front.
Raul, outside,
Man you guys wanna fight.I'm not even sure Gold_Drake cares as much as you two.
You win, lol.
I was not offended.
I was more confused by the "joke" as it didn't really contain any really humor.
My bad if I offended you by asking questions and making an observation about your joke
My bad.
I sold mine to CEX before Christmas and got more for it than I expected...trade that pointless piece of plastic in whilst it has a little value.
Why would anyone buy a Series X or S at launch? It was the only console launch in history to have zero new games, only backwards compatibility updated last gen games on offer.
Microsoft only released Series X | S because Sony was going to release PS5. They didn't want to get left behind, even though they had no software prepared for it.
This was a sign of things to come, and I mentioned that many times over the past few years, it was a bad omen.
Man I just wish didn't shut down F5 and F6 servers those were great, but the new Forza game on XBX is terrible
Forza Horizon is a good franchise, i haven’t played an arcade racing game in god knows how long so i will be getting this actually.
As a uber fan of Sony products since I bought my first Sony Walkman in 1980 and pretty much since 1995 all my gaming has been all PlayStation 1 , 2 .3 and currently on PS4 . Thank you Microsoft for sharing your published games to Playstation consoles. Cheers.
Nice. Remember seeing a Walkman in the wild around the time of release and thinking how cool it was. Then some years later some kid I knew bragging that they had Michael Jackson's Bad, and showing off by playing it on their Walkman. Yeah, that kid was 'that kid' that wore all the popular designer clothes all the time. Farrah kecks to school. Mean anything to anyone?
And for anyone too young to understand, the release of Bad was something of a cultural phenomenon.
Michael Jackson was huge in 1987 ! Every video MJ debuted in 1987 was a huge television event . Another great music event for me in 1987 was hearing Boogie Down Productions , Public Enemy and Eric B and Rakim for first time while listening to college radio stations thru my Sony Walkman . Great times !
I've put hundred of hours into this game on PC, you're in for a treat Playstation gamers.
it's 50% off on Steam rihgt now. I've always had this in my wishlist, just no incentive to buy it yet
Xbox Marketing Team:
Team Leadership:
OK folks, how do we sell the xbox brand as a non tangible service when the very word, 'box', makes everyone think of a physical box?
Team:
Uhhhhh
So, by that logic, PS consoles are also Dreamcast since they were getting games from Sega. Xbox is a third-party publisher like Sega now so what's the difference?
But apparently not selling them very well. They just need to embrace their third-party publisher status now and cut their losses.
About a year ago, you stated that big Xbox exclusives weren’t coming to PS. A lot sure has changed in that time to where it’s no longer a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’. How much longer do you think Xbox will try to push their consoles before they decide to give that up?
Lmao I love when I’m right about these predictions on where Microsoft would end up and how much I was downvoted for saying this was eventually going to happen several years ago and here we are!
Not really Helicoptergirl, I used to use this site every day. Now I pretty much avoid it, bevause of ridiculous comments like the one above. Its fanboy heaven here and I have no interest in it.
So Xbox having to pimp out their best franchise to the competition isnt a humiliation for them? Explain why.
It's not even a competition anymore, Xbox are doing what they have to do. I wouldn't call it a humiliation, they are going to make money from Playstation gamers. Someone was always going to lose the "console war".
Good stuff.
Would like to see Halo games, Gears of War games, Otagi games, Hellblade 2, Flight Simulator, Quantum Break, & Ori games make they way over as well.
Perosnally I welcome them on my PS console.
Will buy them including Halo if it gets here. Good games needs to be played and supported and these are good games worth playing
Now bring Gran Turismo 7 to PC, can you imagine how it would look now with DLSS 4, multi frame gen, path tracing, 4K, 8K, not to mention all the mods that would be coming. Polyphony Digital could really push their visuals in GT7 and not be held back. Another missed opportunity.
Why would I do that when my PC is a much higher spec than a pro? It's not going to hurt Sony only make them more money like Spider-Man, TLoU etc. If it doesn't come to PC so be it, I'm not that much of a racing fan but would try GT7, my go to genre is mosly FPS games.
Feels a bit weird for Xbox to have buckled to this extent and the 'war' to be over. Great news for PS gamers, I don't think there's anything in it for Xbox fans but that's how it goes.
LMAO! Again...MS continues to prove they are becoming a fully fledged multi-platform publisher & developer. Losing XB console exclusives more & more by the day. In a few years they'll be just like Sega but with a rental subscription. After next gen they'll be no more XB hardware.
IT'S BEGUN!!! The Xbox Big 3 is FINALLY coming to PS. Next up Halo MCC and then finally Gears Trilogy. It's time to put them on PS where they deserve to be.
There's zero reason for me to ever buy an Xbox now. I will comfortably be enjoying everything with PS5 and Switch 2 in the future.
The constantly moving goalposts is hilarious 😂
1st it was "omg MS is gonna make all thes acquisitions exclusive!"
Then it was "ok but they'll be on ganepass day 1 and PS5 will get it later"
Then it was "ok but these are all games from act/beth, im not convinced till they do their legacy 1st party stuff "
And now it's "well yeah b-but this is old! So it doesn't count"
LMAOOOO
It was always "Halo, Gears, Forza". Now it's just "Halo and Gears" and soon they won't even have that anymore to call their own. Well done MS, I will give you money for this game and others when you bring them. Hahaha
That's right. So when you spend that money make sure you come back back here with a honest review of those great titles. Don't be stingy.
@R. Lee Ermey
Hey buddy if you're gonna post something post the entire quote. Not just the part that you think proves something. You never find any post from me saying xbox games will never go on a rival console. I Only said Microsoft is gonna do what's best for them at the end of the day. Just like Sony is putting games on PC which many of you said would never happen. At the end of the day i can play the games I want without a console. It's a win-win for me. I can play Playstation games without a playstation and I can play xbox games without a playstation. The way it should be.
Why didn't you respond to him directly so that he could see it? He provided the link to your comment. Everyone can see and interpret your comment with full context, including who you were replying to. And it was clear you were saying that Phil will do what is best for Xbox in regards to not having to abide by his own statement of "exclusives are counter to what gaming is about" and therefore doesn't owe us anything and that he didn't spend billions to just to put games on PlayStation.
You aren't fooling anybody.
Everything you stated is why I didn't dignify that post with a response.
We've seen over the last few weeks in particular that there are people on this site who think they can't lose an argument if they refuse to accept the loss. I don't need them to do so to make my point.
There's no additional context needed for—
"You guys can't be that dumb to think they're spending all this money to put games on playstation."
—but I provided the link anyway: https://n4g.com/comments/re... .
R. Lee Ermey?! I must have been halfway through the post before realizing it was supposed to be directed at me (from afar). This is some run off to a corner to whisper under your breath stuff.
Well you all should be happy. With as many games Sony has cancelled. Theirs 1st party titles are looking real slim over this year. In comes Xbox to save the day.
MS doesn't care about brand rivalry, they just want to make money and right now putting their flag ship titles on Sony consoles means more sales and that is a good thing for the investors
MS about to show the industry how silly it is to tie software to hardware in 2025
Oh wow well that’s pretty cool. Because if it’s one Forza I’d like to try on PS it would be the Horizon series. As an Aussie I really wish I got to try 3 with the Gold Coast. It’s pretty expensive to fine these days if you want the V8 Supercars like me 😅
Well it finally happened and it is one of the best racing games out there. The best part about this announcement is that crossplay is available.
To be honest, the Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 announcement is an eye opener.
Rumours of Halo, Gears of Wars, Flight Simulator, Fable are now becoming a reality.
Granted Sea of Thieves and the other 3 games were released but in my view, they weren't "big games".
Today's announcement shows that Microsoft is now clearly becoming like Sega
The same studio that did the miracle ports of Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal for the Nintendo Switch.
As a huge racing fan, this is a day one buy for me, along with the Indiana Jones game. I am not going to get into any console war gloating, other than to say, this is more money for Microsoft from a vastly expanded user base and gamers are happy with new titles to play. So it's a win-win.
Yeah...thanks but no thanks, why? Because Playstation has a much better game...its called Gran Turismo...
Forza Horizon isn't the same as Gran Turismo, so don't get confused.
Forza is the same as Gran Turismo, hence it's not releasing third party
Now if it was Forza Motorsport that released. Then I would agree. But horizon is more of a open world arcade racer like The crew.
I will buy it, i need an open world arcade racing game...but when Forza will come to Playstatio its a hard pass, why? Playstaion has a fat better game...its called Gran Turismo..
I think I picked this up for under £30 after launch on Series X. All the same content and identical graphics, top whack £70 for this on PS5, it's a big no from me.
Win win for Sony. Not paying for those games but making bank off of them. Both exclusives in one console.
Great game glad to see others enjoy it now. Deff will be the best arcade racing game on the PS5 nothing is even remotely close.
All the back and forth but it's official. They are a publisher now(and a big one at that). Bring over Halo, Gears, Flight Sim, Hellblade II, Starfield, and Sunset Overdrive.
With Gears Emergence day coming, I think MS will definitely be putting the Gears franchise to get PS players on board so they can also release EDday on PS5 too to get even more money. It wouldn't make sense to keep it a Xbox exclusive since its a big franchise and most player are just going over to PC to play it rather than suffer through the Series S.
I just booted up NFS Unbound on PS5 cause I really had an itch for some racing on next gen, and boy that game made my blood boil in so many ways. The Crew Motofest was just not great, and GT7 was a microtransaction nightmare. So Maybe Horizon 5 is the salvation a lot of racing fans on PS are waiting for.
Does this really matter? Most Xbox games I found weren't really worth the hype. I might pick up the MCC - a series of classics of which I'll probably only play a couple of those titles out of curiosity rather than nostalgia - or possibly MSFS 2024 if they allow us to play it offline. Otherwise i didn't really care to finish FH4 or FH5 though I guess it could be argued that I finished them as well as FH3 which I personally think was more worthwhile. FH5 fell off for me and I picked up all that games' DLC. It's literally the most complete version of FH that I've ever owned and I have the least love for it, but I tried harder to love it.
Support for Forza Horizon 5 seems to be slowing down, as players can vote for previous festival playlists to return going forward.
