Digital only consoles only benefit the manufacturer by locking you into their single sales channel. They make far more off of you over the life of the console than you would have saved buying the striped down hardware.
It’s a one sided relationship. All consoles can be digital but digital only consoles cut out a completely viable path to get better deals on games
