I’d like to see Digital Foundry do an controller input comparison. I can’t stand input lag.

Looks like GeForce Now has much better latency over xCloud. I’ve also read Stadia is much more responsive from some that have tried both.

porkChop1340d ago

Stadia should, in theory, be the fastest because the controller bypasses everything. It connects through the internet directly to your game, rather than through a dongle, to your computer, etc.

But if I remember correctly I think DF or someone tested it and xCloud was still faster than Stadia. At least it was at that time.

Kavorklestein1340d ago

It's still faster and not as data hungry, and doesn't seem to require as much speed as Stadia.

Stadia doesn't work at my house very well cuz of the upload speed fluctuating too much.

Xcloud works well thru mobile app, pc via Google chrome, on Xbox one and Series X thru both the Beta for the app, and via the Edge Browser.
The app is smoother than the browser tho for sure.

Xbox one works quite well, and Series X seems to have even less latency from controller to game than XB1.

PitbullMonster1340d ago

I m sure it depends also on where nearest server farm is.

Cueil1340d ago

this is probably the bigger issue for most people than anything else outside of hardware issues

Wikkid6661340d ago

On console their isn't any noticeable lag in single player games. Pixelization is the only issues I've had.

NeoGamer2321340d ago

That is factually untrue. I played some Destroy All Humans on xCloud and then on Console itself. I noticed a significant difference in controller lag.

I expect it will keep getting better and better, but right now I see xCloud as a service I can use when I am out and about, or to try a game out before I download it from GamePass.

Amplitude1340d ago (Edited 1340d ago )

@Wikkid666:

I have extremely fast internet and I stream with xcloud, PS Now, and local stream with Remote Play and Steam Link. My buddy uses Stadia as well (I know, somebody actually does exist that uses it lol)

In all situations I'm on a wired connection, and input lag is extremely noticeable. You get used to it, but everything will always feel quite.... heavy. Similar to that Killzone 2 feeling. It's fiiiiine but once you switch back to a locally installed version it's hard to go back.

Anyway yeah - hard disagree with you here.

Cueil1340d ago

I don't have any issues with 30fps games, but 60fps games are pretty noticeable. To be fair I grew up playing many games in the 20fps sometimes high teens...

-Hermit-1340d ago

When I tried xCloud a few months ago, it was horrendous. The lag was unbearable and the picture quality was crap. Geforce Now is the only one I have used that wasn't terrible, but I would only ever use it if I was absolutely desperate.

If people choose to play games this way, then good for them, but it's not something I can ever see myself getting in to.

thesoftware7301340d ago

Jin,
To bad Stadia sucks and Geforce Now needs more recognition..I'm not sure who its for, casuals wont mess with it, console gamers don't really care and PC gamers usually like near perfection on their games.

Xcloud is not ideal either, but its included with GP:Ultimate..so its kinda like hey, let me check this out since I already have it.

DarthZoolu1340d ago

Input lag isn't bad at all I don't even have a good connection I can't believe how good it plays. The kids thought their game got an update or something when I loaded up some 60 frame per second games just to see if they noticed

X Cloud on the old console does 1080p at 60 with fast load times. Visual enhancements as well, though that's varied depending on your connection. Basically Xcloud Essentially turns the The old rusty X1 console into a SS. X Cloud is utilizing the Series X's streaming tech, mimicking the specs being streamed through the cloud into the X1.

Xbox studios games like starfield would be able to run on the old console through this tech. Will it take off? Will this stagnate sales for X Series? How demanding will big AAA games be on the old console? Like will Starfield actually be streamable on the X1?

Legit questions but all I know is, this is some Incredible tech MS mustard up some incredible exceptional tech, that's undeniable.

Gaming4Life19811340d ago

Yea this tech is amazing and I don't think it's going to hurt Ms at all. One thing about xcloud is that you need good internet. I tried it using century link at 60mbps and it couldn't handle it but now I have cox internet at 150mbps and it works flawlessly.

Regardless amazing tech like you said.

4Sh0w1340d ago

Yeah what their doing is pretty remarkable...Xcloud is pushing the streaming tech to new heights.

Lightning771340d ago

Yeah that's the major draw back about it. This isn't for you if you have a weak or bad connection. If you live in a rural area. The U. S. Is still lagging behind in internet speeds.

While the tech is impressive, I'll still be playing games like Starfield natively on X Series for the absolute best experiences. Either buy physical or downloading the games still.

Cueil1340d ago

The US isn't lagging behind in internet speeds the US is just effing huge. Don't compare the US with countries that are smaller than some of our medium-sized states.

wiz71911340d ago

Honestly all that cloud tech in the beginning of last gen wasn’t all talk after all, the reason why the Xbox One Ethernet port is somewhat connected to the GPU .. I believe the tech was just to premature at launch

EvertonFC1339d ago

Nobody said it was all talk, people said they announced it 10 years to early

Kavorklestein1339d ago (Edited 1339d ago )

@Everton-
Ha! Sir, you have no clue what you're talking about ... almost every single Sony ASS on this dumpster fire of a Pony-catering Spam-ridden website was literally bashing everything cloud related for almost the entire generation.
Where the hell were you?
People were even making fun of Secret Sauce and cloud crap at the start of THIS generation.

MS has some serious vision for tech especially since the Surface Design teams emerged and later on as well.

They may not always nail everything they attempt, but they will ALWAYS have better services and bonus features than Sony.
They WERE attempting getting into cloud back then and yes it was just announced too early.
My comment isnt directed to You individually as like, a bash on you or anything... but you could review the comments and articles from back then, and you WILL see the truth of who said what and how often and how they cursed everything cloud related.

Sony tried their version with PSnow and it's got plenty of games, but it still sucks ass to this day.
You need a PS controller just to play on PC. It's just half baked and overpriced even with hundred of games, it is currently, and likely always will be- sub par to What Xbox is doing with Xcloud and Gamepass.

Nobody said they announced it too early typically. Only like 5 rational dudes ever said stuff like that.

If anything it was just goalpost shifting to how Sony already did a shit version first and is somehow better for it etc.
Just nah bro.

Anyone who downvotes this comment is only doing it cuz there is no argument (insecure disagree) or just don't like a little language.

Pre-emptively gotta say Fuck all the idiots who may vote down, excited to see how much people will deny the past to fit whatever new lies come next.

Jin_Sakai1340d ago

“ his is some Incredible tech MS mustard up some incredible exceptional tech, that's undeniable.”

It’s not incredible though. It’s powerful hardware streaming a game to weaker hardware. Of course games will look and play better. You still have added input lag though.

x_xavier_x1339d ago (Edited 1339d ago )

"It’s not incredible though."

Yeah, that's why so many companies are struggling or outright failed at implementing a video game streaming service...because it's TOO simple!

Double the frame rate. Faster load times. No downloading huge files. Instant access and updates. Tell me again how this technology isn't revolutionary. If this practice is just "streaming a game to weaker hardware" then please explain, in your own words, EXACTLY how this process is achieved. Feel free to use your vast knowledge on the subject to explain compression algorithms, networking and transport protocols, cloud aware APIs, and software/hardware based computer engineering. That should be easy for a guy like yourself who is unimpressed with such "mundane" technology.

Gaming4Life19811339d ago (Edited 1339d ago )

Playing current gen games on a last gen console is incredible to me. The Xbox one was not able to run games at 1080p 60fps but now it can.. I didn't have any noticeable input lag when I used xcloud but maybe I got lucky.

Kavorklestein1339d ago

It's more incredible than extra jiggly buzzy controllers that break fast, tho isn't it?

Cackocacho1340d ago (Edited 1340d ago )

I think this site needs to take a serious look at its "Your comment looks like spam." bot, because it is absolutely comical, what this thing perceives as "looking like spam".

Kavorklestein1339d ago

It's not a bot. It's Christopher and his Trying to appear neutral/ yet Only Sony Cronies manipulating the site since forever.

AuraAbjure1340d ago

Looks great! Glad they upgraded Xcould servers to Xbox Series X boards recently.
