What Makes ‘Metroid Dread’ Special
Thankfully, not only is Metroid Dread a fantastic addition to the series, but it also stands as one of the best games to come out this year. With the series going back to its sidescrolling, explorative roots is a testament to the fact Nintendo understands there exists an enormous player base out there, that we for lack of a better term can call “retrogamers” — how else can the resurging popularity of sidescrollers be explained, from gargantuan hits like Dead Cells to upcoming action-platformer F.I.S.T. Forged in the Shadow, not to mention the birth of the “Metroidvania” genre.
