Tetris Effect: Connected (Switch) - Review - Games Asylum

Games Asylum: "Tetris is eternal. Throughout the past three decades, the falling block puzzle game has evolved across a plethora of appearances, many of which have earned their status as all-time classics.

From the simple appeal of marathon mode in Tetris DX, to the puzzle trappings of Tetris Plus and Tetris with Cardcaptor Sakura, all the way over to high-level competitive play in Tetris 99 and Tetris: The Grand Master, Tetris has also cemented itself as one of the most versatile and everlasting concepts in video games."

Sorry, a 10/10 means it is the very best it can be. I thought this game looked great on my X1X. Then I played it on my Series X. Wow! What a difference. So for a review to say it is a 10/10 on Switch? That is a complete lie. The game looks and sounds better, by a large margin, on Series X. Also probably the same on PS5.

Bottom line, the game Looks and sounds better, on current gen hardware. I am sure it is fun on Switch, but the definitive editions are on current gen hardware.

Yeah, but can you play the Xbox version while sat on the toilet? Tetris feels at home on a handheld.

whitbyfox1342d ago (Edited 1342d ago )

Because Tetris is best in handheld mode.

iplay1up21341d ago (Edited 1341d ago )

Yeah right. Tetris connected looks best on a 7 inch 720p screen. That opposed to my Series X version, which I play on a 65inch UHD HDR screen, with surround sound. LOL! Not!

Connected looks even better on my Series X, than it did on my X1X. Yet somehow, it looks even better on Switch? Laughable! I like my Switch, but come on! The game is based on visuals and sound. Both of which are better on the new consoles. There is no comparison that would show differently. Therefore it is not a 10/10. It can't be, if there are superior versions available.

NonShinyGoose1341d ago

By this account, you're saying no multiformat game on Switch could ever gain a 10 because there will always be superior versions?

iplay1up21341d ago

No, there are plenty of 1st party Nintendo games that are over 9/10. Tetris connected, looks fantastic in 4K and sounds great, with the better audio. I am also, not saying Tetris, isn't great for Switch. I am pointing out, that there are better versions out there. If it looks and sounds better, on another system, it is better.

whitbyfox1341d ago

It looks great on the OLED Switch but looks aren’t everything anyway. What’s important is how it plays.

The clicky d-pad on all the Xbox controllers are absolutely atrocious and not suitable for anything that requires fast precise input, never mind a game like Tetris. The arrow buttons on the joy cons are a far better way of playing.

Tetris Effect: Connected Review | The PlayStation Brahs

The PlayStation Brahs:

"Tetris. The name that everyone knows and may be one of the games that more people have played has been around for decades that had spanned books, video documentaries, and films.

Now Tetris Effect: Connected is on the PS VR2. How does it 'stack' up to the PS VR1 version?"

"spanned books, video documentaries, and films" - don't forget science (The Tetris Effect was a study that described seeing things in your mind's eye long after you've finished a repeated activity, like when you play too much Tetris and all you can see when you close your eyes is the falling blocks!) and music (there was a cool club adaptation of the theme tune a few decades back!).

Great game - the best Tetris by miles in my opinion, and this is comfortably the best version.
