IGN: Console Showdown - PS3 vs. Wii vs. 360

Welcome to IGN Australia's 2008 Console Showdown, where we pit the games of the PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 against one another in an all-out brawl. Over the next few days, we'll be looking at which system had the best games this year in a genre by genre breakdown, we'll be comparing the games available on WiiWare, PSN and XBLA, and we'll be crunching numbers to judge each system's performance based on scores. We're kicking the features off today, however, with a look at system exclusives. Which console had the strongest line-up of exclusives in 2008?

Winner : Playstation 3

I still need to buy Fable 2 and Valkyria Chronicles.

Danja6031d ago (Edited 6031d ago )

Valkyria Chronicles is amazing can't go wrong with it....

over all 3 systems had a good year though...and next year is looking even better...good time to be gamers. XD

TheColbertinator6031d ago

Valkyria Chronicles is a gem.I have been enjoying it for weeks.

0verdrive6031d ago

lol not ANOTHER one of THESE articles...

that being said, score one for the big (black) man. =D

patterson6031d ago (Edited 6031d ago )

Valkyria Chronicles was a great game. I'm glad reviewers everywhere are giving it props. Hopefully more people will pick it up.

That's been the problem for me lately though... too many good games out there I can't keep up!

Next on my list is Siren: Blood Curse. Been putting that off because I've been debating about upping my hard drive or waiting for it on Blu-ray.

Ahh screw it, I'm buying it tonight! :D

house6031d ago

over all i think it did have better games

Sarcasm6031d ago

"Valkyria Chronicles"

Quite Possibly this game is the biggest sleeper hit. I don't know about the sales numbers, but it's definitely an EXCELLENT VIDEO GAME regardless.

Next years title will be " Which system managed to barely hang on after PS3 dominance in 2009"

or

"Which system managed to not get itself mopped on the floor by an overwhelming PS3 romp which doesn't look like it going to end going into 2010"

ChampIDC6031d ago

Well, the PS3 definitely does have the best exclusives this year, but the Wii still prints money. Darn casual gamers...

Product6031d ago

anyone else notice that some of the game ratings were alittle....off?
Example:they used the score from AU for Mario Kart wii which was 7.9 when the ign us gave it a 8.5.Why pick the lower score...this happened on alot of games from what i looked up.
What gives?

Yeh and to add, how the hell did mario kart wii get an 7.9 on any site>? There is no way the game is worth any less than 8.5.

But then again, I have been a winner over all ever since I bought all three consoles. In the end, I don't play consoles, I play games. Kudos to Sony though for pulling out all the stops this year and making a great leap in the console arena.

Well good job PS3. All systems had good exclusives but the PS3 definitely had the most and the best.

Shaka2K66031d ago

Why im not surprised.

Sony is full of winners and kidtendo and shamesoft is full of losers thats why everybody always leaves their pathetic companies.

Breakfast6031d ago (Edited 6031d ago )

Sony gave IGN the money, they were supposed to be using to make Home a viable competitor to Live. Now with the lack of funds, Home will turn out to be terrible...all this for a positive article on the internet.

...tsk, tsk Sony, how low can you go? I now my loving MS will never pull such an act of corruption.

:)

meepmoopmeep6031d ago (Edited 6031d ago )

lulz

it's about time Sony buys publications like MS does

:)

Danja6031d ago (Edited 6031d ago )

now Expect Edge to counter this article..XD

Breakfast6031d ago

...i was just trying to email edge, kotaku, and 1up as quick as i could.

I made sure to tell them all about the shenanigans Sony is pulling. No one likes biased/payed off websites.

:)

Why o why6031d ago

More studios

More games

More choice

More chances of flops

More chances of Successes to cushion the flops

= Happier ps3/multi console owners and they didnt even include the psn games, big or small. Wow

meepmoopmeep6031d ago

lol, bubbles Breakfast.

i have hung up my troll ways, it's hard when i see you post though,

CryofSilence6031d ago (Edited 6031d ago )

Oh! It's a joke, I get it! >.>

Edit:
Perhaps the better fitting word, and the word I should have used is, "Satire."

ultimolu6031d ago (Edited 6031d ago )

Lmfao @ Breakfast.

This really was the year of the PS3 in terms of software. I bought so many games that I have to beat them all during the holidays.

I'll donate a bubble too. You silly goose you...

Sarcasm6031d ago

I heard of people putting the P on a pedestal. But now I see people are putting Breakfast there.

The Evil Within Deserved More: A Great Horror Series Left Behind

The Outerhaven writes: While I hold Bethesda's The Evil Within series as some of the best Survival Horror games available, it's clear that Bethesda has no intention of revisiting the series. While Capcom is still working on its Resident Evil series, I look back at the now-dead survival horror series from Bethesda, wondering why the series was left wide open, and yet still not revisited.

An OK horror series left behind. It had some great ideas, but it never knew how to play to its strengths. Instead, it came out like just another RE4 clone.

I would love for a third entry to come out, but it needs to learn to lean in on the psychological aspect and move away from the generic "pew pew" ideology at the center of the gameplay loop. It doesn't need to abandon it; it just needs to put it into better context, is all.

Also, try a first-person perspective instead. Too many 3rd-person games with nothing to offer but an avatar taking precious screen space. At least make it an actual option and not that janky-ass mess the second game pretended to have.

PS5/Pro/Switch 2 version of RDR2 seems most likely. I’d love a RDR3 but that seems years away

Cacabunga7h ago

Id be happy for just a 60fps patch

OmegaSoldati6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

Agreed, but at the same time RD2 came out in 2018. Could it be a remake of Red Dead 1?

Spoiler:

Marston died in the end of Red Dead and Red Dead 2 is set before that. Im curious now. What news could it be?

Profchaos8h ago(Edited 8h ago)

Their contracts are iron clas if they leak anything legit they are threatened with immense legal action.

My hopes for what this is are minimal its probably a meet and greet with the cast

I dont see why they would be involved in a upgraded version of rdr2 when the dialogue hasn't changed

thorstein4h ago

He seems to have been cleared to do this as he purposely picked up the game, streamed it, and made the announcement.

XBLA Classic 'A World of Keflings' Is Coming to Steam, and There's a Demo

"Back in the innocent days of 2010, A World of Keflings was a fairly popular successor to A Kingdom for Keflings. I even wrote about it a few times in 2012! But the world of humans moved on, and NinjaBee's city-building/adventure game was last seen on the ill-fated Wii U in 2014. Fast-forward to the dark year of 2025, and not only is A World of Keflings coming to Steam, but there's already a playable demo! Perhaps the cheerful, no pressure gameplay that the Keflings bring is just what we need nowadays," says Co-Optimus.
