Rumored Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy Mentioned In Today's Rockstar Launcher Update

Unreal Engine? Hmm. Figured they'd move them over to RAGE.

Then that Unreal Engine part is kind of misleading.
If they're doing it in UE, then it'll be a Remake. But the leaked doc says remastered.
So ... I guess its using UE4 as a frontend for various UI elements for the trilogy's bundle/common launch menu.
Grand Theft Auto Trilogy remasters are being developed by Rockstar Dundee, which previously worked on the Halo: The Master Chief Collection under the name Ruffian Games.
The same devs used UE4 frontend for the MCC collection's UI and menus previously.
There even used to be a common UE4 error in Halo MCC for PC.
Hence, this remaster is not actually being made in Unreal Engine.
Its the same ol' GTA III,VC, SA code made using Renderware. Just spruced up a bit. Similar to Halo MCC.

It doesn't make sense. I wanted a Mafia 1 level remake. Why would Take Two devote more resources to a lesser known IP than GTA?
....unless they know we'll buy it regardless.

In addition I think this was original going to simply be a pre order bonus for GTA v expanded going by recent rumours. However since that's delayed I guess we will have to buy it seperate.

Do you think that there could be some improvements under the hood that will improve our ability to mod the visuals of the game, such as injecting higher resolution textures, or do you think they will upscale all of the textures for us?

I don't expect new graphical effects or an overhaul per say, but hopefully the back end is friendlier to modern mod-overhauls?

They use their own engine so I can't imagine them using anything else since that would mean profit sharing.

It's GTA III's Anniversary on 22 October and this GTA collection hasn't even been officially announced! So I'm wondering if it will suddenly drop on the day as a 'surprise'! What with PS trophy art revealed too I'm happy that there's now more evidence it's coming and it's honestly the game I'm looking forward to playing most pre-Christmas!

I love the content, but even when I played San Andreas again a couple years ago on PC, it felt ancient.

Yes hopefully they can update the gameplay and bring some quality of life features I think that would really make the games more enjoyable to play

SA on PC was great fun early on, thousands of players played the SA-MP mod for many years and was so active, servers were always really busy. After I finished the story on SP the multiplayer was my go to game for screwing around. That and Garry's mod.

So glad Garry's mod successor S&box is imminent on Source 2.

I think out of the 3, San Andreas holds up the best. GTA 3 and Vice City are very dated now.

Since they introduced first person mode to GTAV, I'm hoping they'll go the next step and make these games playable in PSVR2.

Sony said hybrid AAA games were a focus and this news could shift some headsets.

I don't expect this to be a full UE4 remake to be honest, it would take forever to remake these 3 games. Plus why would they give revenue share to Epic when they have their own engine?

I'm expecting just a remastered version of the original 3 - which is fine, they are still great games and are hard to play on modern boxes.

Apart from obvious graphics improvements I'm.hoping that they can relicense all the songs from all the games. Playing them now unless from the original disc is a real butchered experience from some of the most classic songs ripped from the radios from artists like Michael Jackson, Ozzy Osbourne, Jane's addiction, NWA, rage against the machine as examples.

The vibe of GTA was always the radio imo and if the songs are still missing then the definitive edition will remain as the original disc based games

They won’t add much to them if it’s true. It will just be a simple remaster. There’s no need for them to add anything and they know it. It will still sell amazingly well.

Even 2005 San Andreas had an online MP mod made by the community and was very active, if these games are a lazy rehash I won't be buying. Probably be similar to what was done with Quake, but at least that actually had new things in it like online co-op.
