Bold claim, being it has been viewed as a cult classic for years now, was highly successful on PC, and I've seen much want for a Playstation port for years now.
Let alone people's want for a sequel. Yeah; we'll go with the Xbox fanboy propping it up angle though.
I want a sequel . The story was great . I hope they get rid of the flashlight I hated it , but the story was right up my alley . Xbox games do get overrated but Alan Wake is worthy of praise maybe not all of it but it’s worthy of most of it . Better than Deathloop for sure and it’s crazy tens by ign and whoever
Good story . Combat not so good but I love games with good stories and despite my current dislike for Xbox (not at the time my 360 didn’t die 4 times yet and haven’t heard years of spin yet either) I do say Alan Wake is worth playing and is a good game . I do think it gets overrated but I love Deadly Premonition and it’s one of my favorite games to play all time despite being one of the jankiest games ever so I’m guilty too .
For me it was always the story and the writing. The way they crafted this spooky setting in some remote town. How each episode played like a TV show where the start of a new chapter gave you a recap of the previous one. It gave off a Twin Peaks / Twilight Zone feel to this game. The combat got a little repetitive by the end, but it was still totally worth the play through. For those who haven't tried it out you should definitely look into the remake coming next week.
Yep good story . I almost hate Xbox but I got to give some love to Alan Wake . It’s overrated though but many games are . Only matters what we think about games personally in the end .
The combat was meh but the story was really good . If they fixed the combat and have an equally good story I’d be really happy with part 2 . I do think it gets a bit of overhyped like most Xbox games but it is deserving of love because of the story and despite of the annoying combat . I really enjoyed Deadly Premonition as the feel of the game was weird like Twin Peaks (Alan Wake goes for a similar thing but not as blatant) but the combat was crap in Deadly Premonition but a good story can save a game in my mind . I wouldn’t give either game great scores because of the combat but I would recommend a use of the stories (7-8) range is still pretty good score and that’s what I think these games are but the stories are what I remember the most not the combat . Alan Wake is polished more overall but not real far off from Deadly Premonition , better combat but not a lot better for Alan Wake . It’s one of the few quality story games that was on Xbox and it doesn’t get many games with great stories . Unsurprisingly this wasn’t a first party game .
There's a ton of reasons why Alan Wake is special 1) The darkness can really be scary, Anyone who play the game will probably remember this pattern of feeling safe in the game to explore out off the path for secrets just like Uncharted to a point where the weather feel like a real thunderstorm and suddenly rushing to a lamp pole become your priority instead of exploring.
2) The Nightspring video, in each episode there's a Nightspring video just think it's Alan Wake's version of threashold kids.
3) The mood and story (It's honestly a great story)
I could go on (Like how awesome to rock concert battle is with Old god of Asgard)
And number 1 reason because it gave birth to this awesome song and MRRRRRRR SCRATCHHHHHHHHHHHHH https://www.youtube.com/wat...
Despite the way it's story is presented, which is interesting, the repetitive gameplay made it boring to play through for me. The constant hordes of enemies needing to get flashed before you can shoot, every boss fight was exactly the same way too. Had the same problem with CONTROL. Idk why Remedy thinks shooting galleries of hordes of dumb AI is the only way to progress from cutscene to cutscene. It's funny how they made Max Paine where they added in the whole slow mo mechanic but every game after plays as generic as it gets for a TPS
It has great writing and some real Alone in the Dark/Silent Hill vibes but with way better gameplay mechanics. Really looking forward to replaying this
Dunno I have never played the game the remake comes out in October so I will find out what makes Alan Wake so special.
What makes it so special? Xbox fans who've overrated and overvalued it for years and years.
Lotr ? Which was shot in new Zealand.

I liked the Twin Peaks vibe. Other games with similar vibes were Deadly Premonition and Beyond Two Souls (to a lesser extent).
