Tales of Arise Has Shipped 1 Million Copies; It’s the Fastest-Selling Game of the Franchise

Today Bandai Namco announced that its recently-released JRPG Tales of Arise has reached a sales milestone.

Lore1320d ago

Deservedly so. RPG’s offer so much fun with rewarding gameplay loops

Lightning Mr Bubbles1320d ago (Edited 1320d ago )

I haven't finished the game yet but honestly, I was expecting more. I chose this game over Life is Strange: True colors and Deathloop but I kind of regret it. For some reason the combat in the Tales games always gives me trouble and Arise was no different, I just end up switching it to auto. But forget the combat, I play RPG's mainly for the story and so far this story is pretty underwhelming. I think Shionne is such a jerk and I don't know why Alphen even puts up with her. None of these characters really did anything for me. This story has no point, so far the game is hinting at a possible romance between Shionne and Alphen, and if it does, it will feel so forced because I'm towards the end and I've felt nothing. I was intrigued about this game mainly because of Shionne and she has not grown on me at all. Such a dry character and dry writing. I don't know what I was expecting... This is no Final Fantasy X or Final Fantasy 7 that's for sure. I mean this is still just a Tales game after all.

Once I finish it, I'm probably trading it in and getting deathloop.

RpgSama1320d ago

I haven't played Deathloop I cannot comment, but surely a much better investment than Life is Strange.

Lightning Mr Bubbles1320d ago (Edited 1320d ago )

@RpgSama

No yeah of course, I was never serious about buying Life is Strange. I might try that later on when it's at bargain, if even that. So many good games coming out over the next few months, Kena: Bridge of spirits, Back 4 Blood, Far Cry 6, Elden Ring, Dying Light 2, Horizon Forbidden West and more.

Heck, I wasn't going to get Deathloop because the game didn't intrigue me that much but reviews have really surprised me.

Stanjara1320d ago

Thnx for the info...I was also looking this for Shionne and FF romance.

Dry ha?

Ufff

Lightning Mr Bubbles1320d ago (Edited 1320d ago )

@Stanjara

That's just my opinion of course. And I haven't finished it yet.

KingofBandits1320d ago (Edited 1320d ago )

lol Life is Strange.....ok bro. I was surprised by the Death Loop reviews myself but that game just isn't my speed. I bought the Tales collectors edition and personally have been loving the game, though I have been a huge Tales of fan since the PSX.

Lightning Mr Bubbles1319d ago

@KingofBandits

What did I say? I said I'm "not" going to buy Life is Strange.

Nicknasty1319d ago

I would be very weary of deathloops critics reviews. Something is very fishy about it. When you look at actual user reviews, it’s the complete opposite. Check out metacritic and see for yourself. It doesn’t look like a very good game at all. Graphics look terrible for a PS5 game and gameplay looked bland and boring. Something is really not right with that games reviews. I almost bought deathloop based on the reviews, then dug a little deeper on the game and decided against it. Went with TOA instead. Still playing it, and hoping it will get better here. Atmosphere is nice and gameplay is ok. Will have to see more of it.

Lightning Mr Bubbles1319d ago

@Nicknasty

If you're like me, you'll probably find out Tales of Arise is a bit overrated also. As far as Deathloop, yeah I don't know... If I do get it, it's just because I found Tales a bit disappointing and traded it in.

Lightning Mr Bubbles1319d ago

@Nicknasty

Also, user reviews on metacritic don't mean shit. Sometimes games get review bombed for no reason. Look at the Last of Us 2. People hadn't even played the game and they were already review bombing it because the leaks told them Joel dies. No matter if you like the Last of Us 2 or not, you can't possible think the game really deserves a 4 out of 10.

For all we know, Deathloop is getting review bombed because it's a Bethesda game and it's not on XBOX or something. It's really immature shit. If you're going to go by user reviews on Metacritic, then good luck...

repsahj1319d ago

...I think tales games is more enjoyable playing in manual than auto. But i agree with you, Arise is not a huge leap compared to past tales in terms of overall gameplay. For me xenoblade chronicles 2 is the best rpg to date(yes better than FF15), imagine that game with ps5 graphics!!! Dont get me wrong, I love tales of arise (currently on my 20+ hrs). Is just that I want something more from it. I hope that my mind will change when Im half way of the game.

Good! I'm glad it's selling so well. It's a great Tales Of game and JRPG.

gamer78041320d ago

It’s really good, releasing it as multiplatform was absolutely the right choice

JEECE1320d ago

In the UK over 85% of its sales are on Playstation. So if you are implying that being multiplatform is a major sales boost, I don't know what your basis for that is. Another fun note, the PS5 version outsold the PS4 version more than 2-1, so that trend continues, unsurprisingly.

CaptainHenry9161320d ago (Edited 1320d ago )

Majority Xbox gamers don't play JRPGS; that's why most sells are on PS5

andy851320d ago

@lakebumstock you just made yourself look like 5x the fanboy he did.

Nyxus1320d ago

@ Lakebumstock: why are you getting so defensive? He's just pointing out facts.

JEECE1320d ago

@Lakebumstock
Haha I see you are new to N4G, but I didn't turn off replies, you just can't reply to a third level comment, so you have to reply to the second level again (like you did).

"So do you have world wide numbers or are you just gonna use the UK as a reference."

I use UK numbers because those are the only numbers broken down by platform that we get with any reliable regularity. If you have a source that provides worldwide numbers by platform, I'd be happy to use that. Until then, I'll keep extrapolating from the data I have available.

As far as steam yeah, obviously it's doing well there. I think every game should launch on PC. I should have clarified that I was talking about console (although citing physical sales should have made this clear). Although I don't know how you are comparing Steam concurrent numbers to the other platforms. I like steam charts, but I was unaware of similar charts for console. Cite your sources, please.

"More platforms = more sales sweetie."

Sometimes. I mean they could have made a PS3 version and some people would have bought it. The point is that at some point it isn't worth developing additional versions of a game for a smaller increase in sales. But sometimes being an exclusive is better. I mean when Titanfall was exclusive to Xbox, it was viewed as a premiere title, but then they made it multiplatform and diluted the image of the brand.

"Its one of the reasons why skyrim and rdr2 sold more than the entire uncharted series combined."

Well, Spiderman was PlayStation exclusive and outsold the Avengers, and that's on tons of platforms. God of War 2018 was exclusive, and it outsold lots of multiplatform games. Same thing with any Halo title. So you can really pick and choose any example there to support your point.

On the worldwide numbers thing, please provide a source of those, and I'll cite that.

Michiel19891320d ago

instead of celebrating the game the (insert console) fanboys go measuring dicks again.

gamer78041320d ago

@jeece I meant exactly what I said that it is really good and it was the right choice. If you tell a company they can boost sales even by 15-20% by widening distribution it’s a no brainer…

Have you played it? how is the combat? Xillia 1/2 and graces F has the best combat...Berseria was button mashy and super easy especially playing with velvet, even on hard difficulty. I hope combat is not just flashy and actually a little deeper than previous games

Teflon021320d ago

Graces had the best combat for me personally and this maybe my new favourite in the end. But currently it's graces f

Spenok1320d ago

Awesome news. Makes me want to jump on it sooner than later.

First, they have to get back to being amazing. I’m talking PS1 era level good, not these cheap Compile Heart level games.

Like if JRPGs were consistently on the level of Persona and FF we’d be back in business.

1320d ago
Father__Merrin1320d ago

I quite enjoyed collecting the compile heart niche rpg during ps3 era. I'm holding out for a Cross Edge re release loved that game

Tales of Arise Has Sold 3 Million Copies Before Releasing on Game Pass and PlayStation Plus

The beloved JRPG Tales of Arise has become available on Xbox and PC Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue today, but not before passing 3 million copies sold.

Knightofelemia432d ago (Edited 432d ago )

It's a great entry into the Tales franchise I enjoyed it. I just wonder if Namco will make a new Tales game. Or will they make a sequel or prequel to Arise. Like they have with past Tales games like Berseria being a prequel to Zestiria, Tales of Xillia got a sequel, Tales of Symphonia got a sequel even though it's crap. Either way I am excited for the next Tales game.

SeTTriP432d ago

Game was phenomenal to me it deserves the success.

Lexreborn2432d ago

I would love a modern remake of Phantasia.

Shane Kim432d ago

I have slept om this series. First game was Arise and it was awesome. I just didn't like the end where they threw one mini boss after the other until the last boss.

Finally, Resistance: Retribution 🔥

It's an alright month overall. I think Sony should try to more consistently get some high quality indies Day 1 in the service, e.g. Ultros would have been good. Those have usually been some of the better months, e.g. Stray, Sea Of Stars, Tchia.

Shame that for this version of Outer Worlds, you can't import your save. 😔 Truly Spacer's Choice

darthv72439d ago

retribution was a cool game. It's the only one that allowed you to link a DS3 controller using Resistance 2 to play it (as far as i know). It was an interesting experiment that didnt offer 2nd analog support though but Im betting this version does.

Eonjay439d ago

Good point. One assumes that is the reason for the delay on releasing it.

ChasterMies439d ago

Joke’s on Outer Worlds Spacers Choice. I quit after the first planet in Outer Worlds.

MaximusPrime_439d ago

Glad I didn't buy NFS rebound. I expected this to be on PS Plus.

ravens52438d ago

Unbound lol. N I got it for 15 physical, 🤷🏽. I'll take it. Jus got extra this year for $80, which is a great deal. If I can pay $80 on sale every year I'd stick with Extra. I don't mind buying a game but then it shows up here cause then I can download it to have it digitally but still have MY copy. Once they take it off I can still play it.

Eonjay439d ago (Edited 439d ago )

You can say what you want about day one purchases but besides that Plus really blows GamePass out of the water.

NFS, Outer Worlds and 4 different Tales of Games... and Retribution. And you throw the monthly games on top of that... its no competition.

BTW... how is it that no one realized that Microsoft could just put its games on Plus. No one seems to realize that Microsoft and Sony are now working to enrich each other. (Console ware is over)

darthv72439d ago

Sadly, Retribution is only for premium users... not us extra folk. I do have the original UMD, but it would be nice to get it digitally like i did with killzone liberation and stardust. Both of which i already owned digitally on my Go/Vita and it was cool when those were made available for the PS5 as then i could dl them.

Eonjay439d ago

This is one UMD I never had but thats really awesome you still have an original.

ChasterMies439d ago

How can Game Pass be the best deal on gaming when it is more expensive than PS+?

badboyz09439d ago

Plus you need a platform to.

Petebloodyonion439d ago

Gamepass PC is way cheaper to PS+ and even way cheaper if you use MS rewards points

Redgrave439d ago

Is that Jet Moto 2, under Resistance? As of writing, it's just an image and no text.

Redgrave439d ago

It's been fixed, and yes it is

Toecutter00439d ago (Edited 439d ago )

Why is the Killzone series still M.I.A? I still love playing splitscreen co-op of KZ3.

MrBaskerville438d ago

They did release the psp top down shooter a while back. So it's not completely forgotten.

That’s cool. I bought in on a sale for like $15, or $20. Was gonna play it, but new games keep coming out. Now FF7 Rebirth is about to come out, so again I will have to push this til later.

I did play Scarlet Nexus on Gamepass, so it doesn’t surprise me that they will release this there to get a bit more income.

1UP-Words445d ago

I've been eyeing it up (and Scarlet Nexus) for ages so this is the perfect opportunity!
