Technically, when looking at categories, Ida was the most intense hurricane to hit Louisiana in modern history. Katrina was only a Category 3 at landfall, with winds 35mph slower. The reason Katrina did more damage is because she hit Cat 5 in the gulf, with 160mph winds, a day before Ida did, and that sucked up a mound of water that washed right over the levees. When a hurricane weakens, it takes longer for the water to drop than it does for the wind, so Katrina made landfall with Cat 3 winds, but Cat 5 waves. Add to that the levee system had weaknesses in it that have since been addressed, so it now takes a stronger storm than Katrina to do the same amount of flooding that Katrina did.

Severe tropical weather/storms less than 79 MPH are not hurricanes. They are instead categorized as a tropical storm. Katrina could not have been a category 3 with winds of 35 MPH or less. Tropical storms do not have a number quantifier. A category 3 hurricane would mean it was 111-130 MPH by your account. Hurricanes/tropical storms are categorized by the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale in the US/North and South America.

I am currently in Louisiana this hurricane did a lot more damage than Katrina people just don't realize that

iplay1up21398d ago

That was yesterday. If you turn on live weather, the most you can do now, is fly through the remainder of storms Ida produced. It was cool flying through it yesterday, especially at low altitudes.

Yes, and thunder. Very cool.

One of the reasons why it’s game of the year.

Vanfernal1398d ago

The game released last year...

whitbyfox1397d ago

And it was game of the year on PC and now game of the year on Xbox.

NeoGamer2321397d ago

@whitbyfox
I think Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite will have something to say about that.

whitbyfox1396d ago

@NeoGamer Forza might have a slim chance but Halo hasn’t reached the 90’s on Meracritic since Bungie left.
