Are people still playing this game?

I am curious. I passed on it day one and glad I did, but might be something to fill the time until the holiday craziness starts.

Remember this? I guess it works fine on a 5400rpm mechanical too.

PitbullMonster1424d ago

He didn't say nowhere that this game is only possible with the fast ssd of the ps5. He just said, that the ssd offers a new level of detail for each individual object as well as seamless loading of our expansiveness world.
I bet that the ps4 version won't have the same amount of details as the ps5 Version and that the loading times will be much longer.

PitbullMonster1424d ago

"an experience that will “feel and play” unlike anything available anywhere else, thanks in part to the PlayStation 5’s supercharged hardware and uber-fast SSD hard drive."

Well, if it "feels and play" different on PS4 then he didn't lie. Wait till we know more about the ps4 version before you point a finger.

Christopher1424d ago

The *only* thing PS5 does is seamless loading. Nothing in this game can't be done on PS3/360 otherwise.

Sonyslave31425d ago (Edited 1425d ago )

Lol i thought it was only possible on ps5 ssd.

Next up ratchet and clank, how much yall wanna bet.

Kornholic1424d ago (Edited 1424d ago )

If you want to wait the 30-120 second load time between portals then yeah, Ratchet & Clank could be possible on last gen specs, lol.

annoyedgamer1424d ago

PCs have SSDs also, you know.

Kornholic1424d ago

@annoyedgamer

Do all PC gamers have SSDs? No. But you already knew that.

ScootaKuH1424d ago (Edited 1424d ago )

@annoyedgamer

Yes PC also have SSDs but not every PC has one, and not all SSDs are created equal. My Dell XPS has a 1tb NVMe SSD and although it's faster than a mechanical HDD but it's nowhere near as fast as the PS5 SSD

darthv721424d ago (Edited 1424d ago )

@korn, what makes you think they dont? Usually pc gamers get all the new toys before console gamers do. There are more pc gamers with ssd than not. If the pc gamer represents only 10% of the total number of pc users... 99% of that would likely have ssd. Maybe 100% given how cheap they are.

As for R&C... yeah that can run on ps4. The rifts are not random, they are scripted. It is a linear game so you can make a few choices but generally it plays the same each time. It could run 1080p 30, maybe 60 obviously no RT.

They can dial back the particle effects and it would run. But just cause it can doesnt mean it would. Sony is going to keep this one on the 5.

IRetrouk1424d ago (Edited 1424d ago )

It would not run on the ps4 at all, it's not just how quick the rifts load, it's how everything is loaded in the game, completely built to take advantage of what the io and ssd can do, and even if it could, there would be load screens everywhere...
you should really watch the digital foundry interview with the dev,

Ausbo1424d ago

Not gonna happen for ratchet. Remember this is a third party doing this.

darthv721424d ago

I know r&c could be ported to the 4, but just because it could doesnt mean that it should. That is up to sony.

IRetrouk1424d ago

They would have to rebuild the games compression code, how the levels load, how the game reads the info from the drives....

It's not just lowering effects... the game as is could not run on the ps4 and to make it a possibility they would have to rebuild most of their code and add loading screens to everything which would fundamentally change the game for the worse.

The planet that you can switch between would need to load everytime you hit the crystal, the pocket dimensions would need to load everytime you went in and out of one, even the yellow portals wouldn't be the same, this goes for the fast travel too.
The game was built for the ps5s specs, like it or not🤷‍♂️

ScootaKuH1424d ago

Watching an interview with the technical director at Insomniac on Digital Foundry it really does seem like it really wouldn't be possible on the PS4, not without seriously compromising the experience. I personally don't think it will ever see the light of day on PS4, and nor should it.

It's more than just the SSD, the PS5 has more and faster RAM, which means that it can render far more detailed words and stream data much quicker. On PS4 this just wouldn't be possible.

Because I'm a saddo I timed how long it took to get into the game when booting from the PS5 home screen. It took 16 seconds. That's just crazy

Christopher1424d ago (Edited 1424d ago )

I mean, if you don't mind having loading screens every time you jump through a portal rather than having it seamless... Sure? PS4 doesn't have enough ram or ssd speed to pull it off without loading times.

Jericho13371424d ago

Playing devils advocate here but do we know this for a absolute fact? Ultimately I feel that like ‘only possible on next gen’ messaging is more marketing than anything, just as cross gen games are clearly financially motivated.

All I’d say it don’t buy into absolutely everything these companies tell you. They’ll go back on their word at a seconds notice, as we’ve seen recently with Sony in particular.

Christopher1424d ago

It's pretty close to absolute fact. They literally got rid of "slowly crawl through or slowly open door" concepts to give more time to load and that is because of the RAM and SSD.

No other game is doing what they're doing and the concept could have been much longer transitions on PS4, but I'm 99.99% confident it's only possible on PS5 because of the hardware. The specs on PS5 game load times alone should show that.

Best example, practically instant load times, even when traveling to other areas in the city which would require reloading new world assets, of Miles Morales on PS5 compared to 15-20s load times on PS4.

IRetrouk1424d ago

@ jericho
Digital foundry has a good interview on this very subject, have a watch👍
https://youtu.be/-YpCQrPRpE...

Christopher1424d ago (Edited 1424d ago )

I'm going to be brutally honest. The people downvoting me above just want it to be true for the sake of downplaying the obviously already shown advantages to load times in games like Miles Morales and now Ratchet & Clank. None of you are downvoting based on actual knowledge or facts, just a desire to ignore what is already written on the walls of what is capable but not utilized by anyone but 1st party studios. You're being really petty when you really should be hoping for others to incorporate similar hardware capabilities in the future so it can be done in all games on all platforms.

"There’ll be no PlayStation 4 version holding Godfall back, as the game is being “tailored to run only on Sony’s new console”. This means that developer Counterplay Games is promising an experience that will “feel and play” unlike anything available anywhere else, thanks in part to the PlayStation 5’s supercharged hardware and uber-fast SSD hard drive.

https://www.pushsquare.com/...

lol

SullysCigar1424d ago

So now they're whittling it down to work on PS4, which is fine. They said it wasn't held back by PS4 and clearly it wasn't, so where's the problem?

PS4 owners beware: it's all good looks and repetition, unfortunately.

1425d ago
ScootaKuH1424d ago

No it doesn't. It shows that Godfall wasn't taking as much advantage as the devs said.

If you ever doubt how "next gen" PS5 is, I suggest you play Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and then we'll talk
