It looks like 3dfx Interactive, one of the iconic GPU makers, is allegedly making a comeback in the graphics industry after 20 years.
I still remember getting a 3dfx Voodoo for Christmas. This is most likely fake though considering most their assets were sold to Nvidia. Even the grammar is wrong in the tweet.
I’m skeptical. I’ll take this with an grain of salt.
I'll be interested if true
I still have all my VooDoo cards from 1-5. Id love to see a return but they wont be the same. They sold all their bag of tricks to Nvidia. GLide was better than openGL and D3D for the time. There's no getting that back.
Interested to see what this is but I do wonder how they’ll ever compete against huge companies with lots of R&D dollars like NVidia while also being out of the industry for so long.
Another moronic Twitter prank like the recent Interplay revival. The 3dfx brand is owned by Nvidia.
I believe Nvidia let the 3Dfx trademark expire years ago, but this is definitely fake.
lets hope is true.
I love a good comeback story. I’m not familiar with them but I hope it works out.
Oh wow this great, used to have a Voodoo Rush card 6mb then later on Voodoo 3000 16mb 😀 Wonder if they are going to have their own cards, or partner with Nvidia/AMD like for example EVGA does and design cards based on Nvidia & AMD GPUs. Either way I'm excited 😊
Lol, this makes me feel old. These guys were the major name in video cards when I was a kid. I barely understood the concept of video cards back then though, as I had the entry level Packard Bell 486 with 8mb ram, and onboard video, which pretty much maxed out on DOS games.
A come back? Come back from what? You just can't be a start up in the gpu market and expect to survive. This isn't like the comeback of a game developing company. We're talking about hardware, manufacturing, R&D, and so much more. It takes a sh*t ton of money. The name 3dfx alone is means nothing in this era except a distant memory for some of us older guys
They could just be a Nvdia partner like EVGA. I think the brand would sell based on name alone.
Gotta get that Voodoo 64MB card for Kingpin. Good times...
Lol. The patents owned by NV and AMD would make it quite impossible for a new(or old) graphics card company to come into being now. This wallpaper from 2014 was a mistake, as well.
Aaa the good old days, still have my Voodoo 5 5500 PCI :)
Even if true it'll just be a sticker on an OEM Nvidia/AMD product to cash in on nostalgia.
NVIDIA has something to say about this? They sunk the company and, after that, bought everything related to 3DFX and renamed things to SLI and the like.
3dfx was bankrupt back in 2002, most assets were bought by NVidia. I call bullshit.
Maybe they're making the gpu for a new Atari console.
