I Still Like E3

Alex S. from Link Cable Gaming writes: "while E3 2021 may go down in history as one of the weaker offerings (Sony really needs to come back to the show), I still really liked it. Maybe not so much for the games themselves that were shown but for everything that surrounded E3 week."

Times change. Social media, youtube, Just look at the views of HZD 2 on youtube... I think it will be very dificult for sony to comeback.

NecrumOddBoy84d ago

E3 was about the experience on the floor. The conferences were exciting but so were the interviews when real journalists would mosey about and get deep dives into everything. Also, the cosplayers used to be important and it was an event to see the themed areas of the convention center. Now E3 is choppy live streams of game trailers. Sometimes I really miss the old G4TV days.

waverider84d ago

Yeah. That was cool. Thats the other side really cool of E3, but if that its lost...

It is like this because of the pandemic.

"Just look at the views of HZD 2 on youtube... I think it will be very dificult for sony to comeback."

Sure...

Starfield E3 2021 Teaser - 15.3 Million views
https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Horizon Forbidden West State of Play Gameplay - 6.8 Million
https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Yeah. E3 will be fine. ESA don´t need Sony´s a$$ around to survive and be great.

Sunny1234583d ago

If you are doing a comparison at least do it right. HZD 2( https://www.youtube.com/wat... ) reveal has 12 million views.
Elden Ring has 4.5 reveal has million views, but i am pretty sure more people are excited about that game than starfield.

ApocalypseShadow83d ago (Edited 83d ago )

But will 15 million Xbox gamers BUY Starfield? They probably will with Horizon FW.

E3 is only one avenue to display content. Sony has many other means of showing games. And the rest of the cost savings goes into making even more games.

What was Microsoft's in-house launch game again?

Obscure_Observer83d ago

@Sunny12345

"If you are doing a comparison at least do it right. HZD 2( https://www.youtube.com/wat... ) reveal has 12 million views."

At least do it "right"? My reply to waverider was on point! Relevance of E3 vs State of Play.

You tried your best bringing a trailer from the freaking PS5 REVEAL (which has nothing to do with State of Play) and still failed. Not to mention that your "12 million views" is just made up numbers. It´s 11.9 Million views after more than one year while Starfield E3 2021 Teaser got 15.3 Million views in 21 DAYS!

"Elden Ring has 4.5 reveal has million views, but i am pretty sure more people are excited about that game than starfield."

So (according to you, of course) RPG fans are more excited about a crossgen Souls game from From Software than true next gen game from Bethesda 25 years in the making, right? Right?

Not even you believe in the made up BS that you say, dude. XD

Sunny1234583d ago

@Obscure_Observer

You are comparing a teaser with full gameplay reveal, that's not apt. Compare xbox & bethesda E3 vs state of play, now that's more apt, and both stand at almost 2 million views.

You wana defend Bethesda with their latest track record? A game 25 years in making? You want to know what happened to previous game with that kind of development time? At the rate technology is progressing you think that "25 years" line matter?

Sony is doing fine, with its exclusives review scores and sales, xbox should be worried, coz they are all talk.

About Elden ring, form software has an excellent almost flawless track record, whereas bethesda still hasn't shown us anything worth while for quite some time now, except doom eternal.

I understand being a fanboy of company that lost previous gen marginally, and is continuing the decline this gen is difficult, and you don't have many points you can win on(thats a fact),but cmon, stop trying to force a point where none exist. Cheers XD

"You are comparing a teaser with full gameplay reveal, that's not apt. Compare xbox & bethesda E3 vs state of play, now that's more apt, and both stand at almost 2 million views."

Wrong again. E3´s broadcasts are FAR more widely spread via hundreds of official AND unofficial media and gaming outlets worldwide which will obviously split the audience. State of Play broadcasts is limited by Playstation official channels. Nice try tough.

"You wana defend Bethesda with their latest track record? A game 25 years in making? You want to know what happened to previous game with that kind of development time? At the rate technology is progressing you think that "25 years" line matter?"

Are you shi$%* me? Do you HONESTLY believe that HFW or Elden Ring are going to be better games/RPGs than Starfield? Really?

Do you have any idea of the level of technology, design, content and complexity of that game? I don´t think you do. I don´t think you know Bethesda or Todd Howard at all, dude.

Here:

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Watch this, then, come back here and tell me again why Starfield´s 25 years in the making doesn´t matter. Tell me why RPG fans should be more hyped by Horizon or Elden Ring. I´ll wait.

"Sony is doing fine, with its exclusives review scores and sales, xbox should be worried, coz they are all talk."

Of course they are. My point is: If Sony wants to follow with their State of Play showcases, MS and Nintendo will continue to be part of E3 and E3 will be fine with or without Sony.

"About Elden ring, form software has an excellent almost flawless track record, whereas bethesda still hasn't shown us anything worth while for quite some time now, except doom eternal."

You forgot to say "imo". Because last time I checked, gamers are hyped by TES VI, Starfield and Indiana Jones.

@Obscure_Observer

Are you shi$%* me? Do you HONESTLY believe that HFW or Elden Ring are going to be better games/RPGs than Starfield? Really?

Actually i do, after fallout fiasco and delaying games beyond reasoning i have lost faith in bethesda(and bioware, more on that later), i was their biggest supporter at one time, as i have played almost everything the company had to offer(multiple times). Track record matters. Whereas the devs of Elden ring, have proved to top notch, one hit after another, not to mention sony first party studios doing the same. Check the most awards for games(or even metacritic) in the last decade, since you keep pointing out IMO, and not "your opinion".

I am not saying Starfield will be bad, in fact i want it to be great, and remind me what the studio was all about, but judging it right now from a 2 min long teaser is just dumb(25 years of work shouldn't be judged by a 2 minute teaser, positively or negatively). Moreover, i did watch that video link, and it has piqued my interest, but i would save my judgment for after i have seen gameplay, or played my-self. but at this point in time i am more excited about elden ring, and HFW as i have seen more gameplay and it caters to my audience.

"You forgot to say "imo". Because last time I checked, gamers are hyped by TES VI, Starfield and Indiana Jones."

TES VI is another story, even i am hyped about that game, who wouldn't be after all the other ES game (eso excluded), Then again, why take forever, Morrowind to Oblivion to Skyrim, didn't take that much time as Skyrim to ES6 is taking, and judging from what we have seen so far, its years away. BTW you forgot to add "imo", since what YOU last checked in regards to OTHER gamers don't hold value.

About the broadcasts and number of views, there are too many variables for us to come to a conclusion, as i watched the stream with 8 of my peeps, and many watch it solo, and many on different streaming services.

To sum up with, imo is always implied, since I am the one typing. From here on, i believe this conversation will keep looping across the points we have already made, so i am out, and you have a good day!

For E3 to improve it needs to be all about game play, developers, fans and gaming culture. Days of fake trailers just aren't cutting it anymore.

Obscure_Observer84d ago

"For E3 to improve it needs to be all about game play, developers, fans and gaming culture."

Only a fool would believe that CGI trailers days are gone.

One quick look at Halo Infinite´s gameplay reveal and E3 2021´s Halo Multiplayer gameplay, one can tell how much the game improved after one year.

Halo Infinite is just an example of why developers shouldn´t show gameplay when it´s not ready to be shown just to please some idiots that will only give them sh!t regardless.

ApocalypseShadow83d ago

A rumored 500 million dollar budget means that Craig should have had on better makeup the first time he showed his face. That wasn't the fault of gamers.

Horizon didn't have that problem. So what's your excuse for Halo besides blaming gamers?

anast83d ago

You are correct. Only a fool would think CGI trailers are gone, because they are not gone...I am not sure where this is supposed to go. It's a very strange statement.

Hype what they have ready. If they have nothing ready then that is on upper management, which would need to be sorted...

For me the E3 is the Christmas time of the gamer and I'm very hopeful that we will have no streaming next year. This year we still have the coronavirus on us and it didn't feel as usual but I understand what we are going through.

ScootaKuH84d ago

E3 is a dinosaur. There's better sources of information nowadays. I prefer developer showcases personally

-Hermit-84d ago

And yet, E3 crushes any developer showcase when it comes to interest and viewership. The problem with developer showcases is that they are more spread out through the year, but the average person prefers one big event where everybody comes together.

ApocalypseShadow83d ago (Edited 83d ago )

So, why is Sony's system selling even faster even in a pandemic without E3? Why are the games selling so well without E3?

Difference between looking at something and buying something.

Gaming4Life198184d ago

E3 is great and will never die.
