Point being that Ghost of Tsushima is in the PS Store now for full price of $60. The directors cut which includes the original game and expansion is also selling for $60. So the point is that the early supporters of the game will have to pay $20 more for expansion or $80 in total.

Now if the original game was selling at say $40 on the PS store now then yes you could say it has simply gone down in price after 1yr and the expansion is the $20. But when original game has not been discounted on the store and the new directors cut is the same price then you are seeing the issue.

No one is asking for the expansion for free. There is no option to upgrade the BASE version for free, like there are with other 1st party games. Miles Morales and Sackboy for example. You buy those games on ps4, you get the upgraded ps5 at no extra cost. With Ghost, there is no base version on ps5 to upgrade to! You have to either buy the expansion for $20 on ps4 THEN pay an additional $10 to upgrade that version, or spend $30 to upgrade the base ps4 version to the Director Cut PS5 version! Even if you bought that $70 Special Edition at launch on ps4, you STILL have to spend an additional $10 to upgrade to ps5. That extra $10 upgrade fee is what people are having an issue with, rightfully so.

I do agree but it still sucks. As if Remasters since the PS3 era weren't already bad enough. Sony is setting up an environment that entices players to not buy their games at launch; especially if it's w/in 1-2 years of a next gen launch. Not only with these releases but the $70 entry point to PS5 titles coupled with the fact Sony/MS games are constantly slashed in price 1-3 months after release. The only PS5 game I've even paid $60 for was Scarlet Nexus last week because Meijer & Walmart didn't have it and Sat Walmart cancelled my Sat pickup order so I just bought it digitally last Sat. otherwise all my PS5 games would have been $50; & yes even Scarlet Nexus was only $50 at Walmart, Amazon, etc.

Anyway I say let sleeping dogs lie. The PS4 versions of these games were great on Pro and even if marginally better on PS5 still better. That being said I see this as a way to continue moving units. A way to entice those who may have gotten a PS5 or do in the future who haven't played these games.

Personally I obtained the platinum in Ghost so I have zero desire to go back and play a game I've already completed 100%. Not to mention the backlog I've been eating at and adding to the past 6 months. Also I really don't care about DLC either as it's something I almost never go back in the play in the rare event I even bought any. Director's Cut? What are we the movie industry now? Release a finished damn product day 1 and move onto the sequel or next game. That's exactly what 98% of gamers do. But the fact of the matter is that these things do cost money. Unlike MS playing from a position of weakness and willing to throw money around Sony is in a position of great strength. Not to say that's reason to charge but they are both a relevant point.

there was nowhere in my comment I defended Sony or corporations in this. I did say that I would love free stuff ALWAYS but the allegation here that Sony is being unfair is a bit unfair. GoTY versions are a thing and we have been kinda ok with it until now. if this is truly Sony being unfair, should gamers start rioting every time publishers do this? case in point:

1. The Witcher 3 GoTY which includes both expansions? did CDPR give the original owners offer to upgrade to GoTY version? at least on consoles, NOPE! original owners have to buy the expansions separately or buy the game again in its GoTY form to have the GoTY version.

2. MK8 Deluxe has been selling gangbusters on the Switch since release until now, but I don't see people calling out Nintendo for it in droves campaigning against them like this. The original owners of the game can't even play their original copy anymore on Switch and if they want to play on the Switch, have to buy the Deluxe version that includes the DLCs AGAIN! - even worse case than GoTsushima here.

3. Halo MCC - do the previous owners got "fair" treatment that they can just upgrade their old Halo games for free and get all the Xbone MCC features? NO! they have to buy MCC AGAIN to play them on the new console, right??

No you're getting it wrong again! They want $30 for you to upgrade your ps4 version to the ps5 directors cut. Where are you getting it's only an additional $10? You cannot just upgrade from the base $60 ps4 version to the base ps5 version. You HAVE to buy the director's cut content BEFORE you upgrade it to the PS5 or upgrade it directly to the ps5 for $30. The director cut upgrade for the ps4 is $20, but then if you want that on ps5 you are forced to spend another $10. If you never ownef it, getting the ps5 version for $70 is the way to go.

But If you are upgrading from the base ps4 version, you are stuck paying an extra $30. It's confusing and shameful really.

The difference is miles morales released on ps5 day 1. Ghost of tsushima was a ps4 game they reopened the code on and implemented a load of new stuff to give it ps5 support. Clearly it was expensive todo this and they decided to charge. Just like they did for spiderman remastered.

No, the reason this is happening is obviously because of a company-wide cross gen policy. Forbidden West and GOW2 are likely going to have a $10 upgrade scheme to their $70 PS5 versions as well.

That's all there is to it. You're trying to rationalize greed. From the marketing, the graphical upgrade is mostly just a resolution bump. No mention of improved lighting or any new graphical features. Dualsense support doesn't require millions of dollars, man. Indie games have it.

It's the same price as buying it initially for $70 + a DLC that's additional to the game. Let's be real, I got the game as a pre-order and I had no idea that a random free multiplayer mode would come out after I beat the game. Nor did I know that the duelsense was going to be such an amazing upgrade along with the Tempest 3D audio engine. I'd easily replay the game with just those right now. Add some extra content on top and it's worth it to me. I don't even care about the 4k/60. This game looked gorgeous without any of that and it isn't even needed.

Stop with the hit pieces already. True playstation fans love games and we get plenty of the best games every single year throughout the year. Not 1 or 2 games every other year in the same 2 months.

What was broken about it? I played the entire game at launch including the multiplayer. Not a single bug experienced. On topic, this isn't a 60 fps upgrade. That was already given for free months ago on ps5, same with days gone. This is adding new features with the duelsense, 3d audio, Japanese lip sync with full in game cinematics and a few more things as well as 4k/60. Plus a new expansion.

Control was a completely different situation. People were pissed off because the upgrade was actually free but was only available for the goty edition essentially. If you bought the base game and both dlc's you had exact same content but couldn't upgrade to next gen version they then expected you to rebuy it. Ofc it was a ps plus game anyway. This would be comparable if- you couldn't upgrade the base game + dlc on ps5 without rebuying the game and dlc together for full price.

Daulsense is nothing more than upgraded rumble. It's nothing special and honestly it sometimes gets in the way. I turn it off on Returnal because I don't like the half pull Alt fire. It gets me killed on CoD because I'm not use to triggers getting locked to feel realistic. Dual sense is definitely over rated imo. At first I liked it but now I turn it off in most cases. And 3D audio is cool and all but Dolby Atmos sounds just as good in my Astro A50 gen 3.

So a year old game that was released as a PS4 game that you (probably, if you liked it) completed on a PS4 a year ago (before the PS5 was even released) is now getting a Directors Cut. Every Directors Cut has been paid for by early adoptors, because most of them release 1-2 years after the original. Check out Borderlands 3. If you bought the original and the DC add on, you'd pay more than the GOTY edition which includes the Directors Cut.
Forza 7 Ultimate is so much cheaper than me buying the original game and the add-ons separately. Do I regret that...no. Because I played them to death a year or so before the Ultimate Edition was even announced.
Have I waited a year or more to get a complete/ultimate edition of a game before? Hell yes.
And you got a free patch to GOT PS4 version to give a 60FPS refresh for the PS5 as a backwardly compatible game anyway.
Don't get the fuss - and don't mind supporting the studio in making another game (whether sequel or new IP again). Developing games isn't a time-less activity.

No one is forcing you to upgrade at all. They put out a patch already for 4k 60 for PS5 and updated parts of the visuals, while also giving out a free flushed out MP,with no MTX or seasonal pass and a full raid.
Now they are asking for 10 dollars pretty much to upgrade you to a full version of the game, giving you actual PS5 copy of the game. So you can look it at it this way. You get the game that's still about $20 or so new, a dlc expansion that comes with new enemies, new cosmetics, techniques, a new place to explore with side and main missions, haptic triggers, mini games and still 4k/60 depending on the mode you pick. All for the price of $30 in total. Top it off they adding more content to the MP at no charge to your wallet. Now SP and Sony are the arseholes cause it didn't give all of that for free. What a joke, SP has put hard work into this game and raising their status to ND levels of devs, being very supportive of the community with adding things and such to the game, but the moment they ask for a little support you bring the torches and forks like they are Frankenstien monster.

I can't wrap my head around why this bothers you so much. When a game goes on sale, are the early adopters being taken advantage of? When a game goes on sale, are the early adopters being slapped in the face? After a price of the game gets reduced to $40, are early adopters crying about it?

Early adopters pay the highest price to get the lowest quality of that particular product.
Patches come down the line that improve that product. The person playing the game a year later gets a cheaper and better game than when it came out. This is not a hard concept to grasp.

I already called my disdain when Remedy did the same thing with Control Ultimate edition getting a free upgrade while existing Control had to rebuy the game, but this is completely different because
1) Sony is actually allowing you to upgrade at a small price of 10$ (better to rebuying the whole game) but most importantly

Just because some developers have offered their upgrades for free doesn't mean that's the standard, stop assuming you should get everything for free. We already got the multiplayer DLC for free and the PS4 version already looks amazing on PS5, you've been given plenty already. Paying 30€ for an upgrade + a dlc is not that bad.

Some people don't understand the concept of budgeting either. Sometimes studios are able to work DLC into their initial development budget and as long as it can get produced within the parameters of the budget they set, yes it can be offered free of charge. However if added content is created outside of the initial budget of the main game then it becomes necessary to charge consumers for it. Ikishima isn't some side mission. It's an entirely new Island to explore with new enemy types! The new PS5 specific features like 3D Audio, Dualsense Support, etc had to be developed by someone(s). It's not a "right click, save as" process.

As someone who bought both the Collector's Edition and the Digital Edition day one...

I think it's completely fair. They're not charging an arm and a leg, and this is coming with a whole expansion, and after dropping an entire MP mode for free, with no MTs. It's also entirely optional. You can still play the base game, or even the PS4 DC, on the PS5 at 60fps.

And this line of logic is nonsensical anyway. What then of the people who didn't pay as much as those who purchased on Day 1? Should THEY be charged then? If they get it for free too, along with those who paid full price, then is that not still unfair? And how would that be measured, especially among Physical owners? Does this then also mean that charging people $30 for DLC Expansions in other games is unfair, as some bought those games at full price and others got them at deep discounts?

I'm totally fine with just playing the PS4 version on my PS5 with the 60fps mode that they already added in. This game was designed for the PS4 and was released about a year ago. There are plenty of places to buy the physical version of the base game for cheap. Just buy that and get the PS5 upgrade if you really need the SSD speed and resolution upgrade. For new players it's a great deal.
