Your fan boy immaturity is showing. We love all Consoles. But the critique is honest. Just like xbox with no exclusive games out. Both have strengths and weaknesses. Stop being a brat.
Those are PS5 games. You can't run the PS4 version of any of those in 120FPS, you need to download the PS5 version. Here, it's the "original" PS4 version. That's the difference.
But for some reason you need HDMI 2.1 for the PS4 BC version, versus the games you listed can run off HDMI 2.0 at 1080P.
Either way this is good news because it might mean that developers will no longer need to make a native port if they can take advantage with the original software.
All the games you mentioned are PS5 titles. Modern Warfare and Warzone never got native PS5 releases, so you play the PS4 Pro version on your PS5. The PS4/Pro SDK never supported 120hz output, so presumably something has changed or Activision has found a way around it. This is the reason that rocket league and Overwatch support 120fps modes on Series X but not PS5. Hopefully this piece of news is an indication that a few more PS4 titles will get support, but I'm not optimistic.
So it won't run at a locked 120 fps and as there is still not VRR support on PS5 it won't be super smooth and you need HDMI 2.1 . FFS Sony why , Playstation, play has limits. And how long do we have to wait for 60fps patched for Horizon , Bloodborn and Uncharted 4.
@NoFanBoy Sony are just sat there laughing at you squirming desperately to get your extra FPS, whilst their finger is hovering over the add FPS button.
VRR support will be added when it's ready.
Pretty sure you need HDMI 2.1 on XSX to do 120hz also. Only way around this would be to lower resolution, depending on the capabilities of your TV/monitor.
Though its mentioned in the article it does not state how important this step is because without this first step all others are sure to fail. You must have its no optional and it cannot be overstated a 120hz tv. Your 30ft, 32,000k tv that cost $50,000 is a epic fail if it's refresh rate is 60fps as this will not do. IMO its a waste of effort as very few gamers actually have a 120 Hz tv. Far fewer gamers have a tv that supports 120hz than had a 4k tv when 4k gaming became a thing what 5yrs ago?
Most people get a 4K TV and automatically think it has HDR and 120hz lol.
120hz 4K sets with HDR10+ (minimum), with a dedicated HDMI 2.1 port (required for 4K @ 120fps) which is what is required to get the best out of these consoles, will set you back around £800+ in the UK (but they are coming down in price slowly.
My eyes are set on this one, and this is at clearance price :-
This is interesting but for another reason. When I first started playing Ratchet and Clank I tested out all the modes I think both performance and performance RT when I checked the input on my Samsung 4K and both modes ran at 1080P 120P. I’ve never seen any game run 120P until then. But I think I have my PS5 in performance mode preset and auto 120hz. Now they did patch it again since then and will have to check but also when I play it in Fidelity Mode the tv out puts to 2160 / 60P. Just a little confused how all these extra settings work and how to ensure I’m getting peak performance or peak resolution depending on which feels best for each game. Thoughts?
About damned time lol. Definitely took long enough. Can't wait to finally be able to play on my GP950. I know most people don't necessarily have screens/monitors that have hdmi 2.1, but for those that do, Sony has really been lacking in their 120hz support game. This is great news for me and others with HDMI 2.1.
You don't need 2.1 for 120hz. My 5 year old monitor with DP 1.2 does 1080p/120 perfectly fine. Doesn't make much of a difference anyways since no games are 2160p @ 120 besides Ori.
You do for PS5 or Xbox. PS5 doesn't use DP, so you are limited to 60hz without HDMI 2.1 @2160p. Warzone does 2160p at 120hz on Xbox at least. Cold War does the same.
From the article, it sounds like you would never want to play this mode - serious texture pop in issues compared to the 60Hz which aren’t present on the XSX version.
I wonder how hacky this implementation is given PS5 doesn’t officially support 120Hz for PS4 and the above issues introduced…
120 FP...oh boy. I remember back when certain console gamers said 60 FPS wasn't necessary back when most console games (except COD and a few other games) were running at 30 FPS. 120 FPS is very nice though
Nice so it can be done with old PS4 games.
It took 6 months so PS5 can run War Zone as is running on SX.
Dirt 5?
Devil May Cry 5? (oh, wait...)
Nioh 2?
I mean, what are people smoking now a days? There's handfull of 120hz games for PS5 already. This is just more goodiness in the bag.
So this disproves the claim that PS4 games need a native PS5 version to be 120fps. Good. Hope to see more.
