Days Gone PC review - good port, bad game | Metro

The game itself is as generic and unmemorable as ever, and does little to deserve talk of a sequel, but this is a notably better PC port than Sony’s first attempt.

Far from a "bad game". It is at least a 7.5/10.

Babadook71438d ago

good port, good game, bad review

bouzebbal1438d ago (Edited 1438d ago )

Metro knows nothing about games
Bad game and a 6? Isn't 6 above average? So stupid the fake media

TheFallen13271437d ago

yeah cause people are not entitled to opinions

Sonic-and-Crash1437d ago

that s why never port a game to PC ...Sony keep exclusives real PS only exclusives ...and let the demand exploding ...

itsmebryan1437d ago

@Sonic
It's not going to happen. They would not leave that much money on the table. Remember they are out to make money just like every other company.

Babadook71436d ago (Edited 1436d ago )

@TheFallen

Which opinion are you referring to?

That game is Bad, metro is not lying. Generic as hell.

ballisticvoodoo1438d ago

Generic in what way? The lead wasn't a transgender, Black, Asian, Hispanic, character?

tein1438d ago (Edited 1438d ago )

How many game are lead by black, transgender, asian etc this year lol. And nick common this game are not bad lol

RazzerRedux1437d ago (Edited 1437d ago )

What's really funny is that 6/10 doesn't reflect a "bad" game at all. That is above average. Says the game is just "ok".

And then the review's first sentence is just inaccurate:

"When Days Gone was originally released in 2019 it had the worst critical reception, and the worst first week sales, of any modern, big budget Sony exclusive."

No, that would go to The Order: 1886 as far as critical reception. No idea what sales data the review is referencing but it sounds entirely made up.

But then this hilarious summary:

"Like a middle-of-the-road Assassin’s Creed, Days Gone is bland but competent. It does nothing especially well but at the same time it has no major failings and passes the time perfectly well."

Where is the part where this game is "bad"? It took the reviewer four paragraphs to actually start talking about the game rather than circumstances around the game such as petitions for a sequel. Why is that even being addressed in a game review? Because it is just filler. The actual review portion of this article is barely 500 words in a handful of paragraphs whereas IGN's review (also a 6/10), to contrast, is five times as long and has much more thought put into what is said. What's even worse is that the same guy gave the PS4 version a 6/10 as well, but says this version is better than that one? lol....ok

I give this review a 4/10. It truly is "bad".

Orbilator1437d ago

The reviewer obviously at it for a few hours and didn't have all the upgrade so labelled it as bad. That was the problem when it intially came out people didn't play it for more than a few hours and slatted it, people who finished it know how awesome it is

RosweeSon1437d ago

Absolute minimum. For me it’s a easy 8 probably 8.5/10 hopefully Sony have heard the uproar and quietly given them a green light I think they just wanted to get some of the already planned big hitters out like gran turismo god of war and horizon ratchet etc get them out and I’m sure it’ll be what else could we do, days gone 2 uh yes please 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣 😜✌🏻

Or an opinion. I also didn’t enjoy this game at all. And I have it a good 10+ hours

1438d ago
jznrpg1438d ago

It’s a it slow in the beginning imo but it gets better as you go on . Obviously you start out weak , bike is weak etc but as you level and start fighting the hordes and such I thought it was great fun. Sluggish start as many games have but I thought it was one of the best zombie games I’ve played .

SyntheticForm1438d ago (Edited 1438d ago )

@ knighted

Sometimes people keep playing in hopes that things will find their stride or simply get better.

I myself have kept playing games I didn't particularly enjoy because I knew other people did, and I wanted to make sure it wasn't just me sizing it up too early and not giving it a fair shake.

Your reply isn't really fair.

LucasRuinedChildhood1438d ago

@knightedHollow

Days Gone fans: "You didn't play the game long enough to realize its brilliance! Your opinion is invalid."

Also Days Gone fans: "Why would you play it so long if you weren't enjoying it? Sure ..."

VerminSC1438d ago (Edited 1438d ago )

Knightedhollow

I was trying to get my $60 worth. I also gave Witcher 3 a good 10 hours and never enjoyed it. I think it’s just extremely rare for me to enjoy open world games. RDR2, BOTW are pretty much the only exceptions. I also mostly enjoyed GOT but near the end was extremely bored.

It’s called different taste. Everyone enjoys different things. I literally can’t understand anyone that legitimately doesn’t like TLOU2 but I respect their opinion. My brother doesn’t like GOW, I just don’t get it, but I can respect it.

RazzerRedux1437d ago

@SyntheticForm

I agree. I played 20+ hours of RDR2 before I realized I just wasn't enjoying myself. This isn't uncommon.

I beat the game and I'd say 6/10 is generous enough.

Master of Unlocking1438d ago

I beat it too (on the PS4 Pro) and it's an excellent game, that doesn't reveal fully what it's made of from the get-go. I'd give it a solid 9/10.
The only slight problem, if any, is that it's a very mature game, for a mature audience, it can be really violent, and its atmosphere of unease is so palpable throughout that after clearing it you feel like playing something completely different, with rainbows and poneys, lol
I for one bought Dragon's Crown Pro for a good change after that :)

Robodrake1438d ago

I Beat it twice. It gets a 9/10 from me.

DarXyde1438d ago

Honestly, this is a childish comment. A reviewer - who is reviewing a game, as their title suggests - is calling a game a bad game, so you attack their intelligence instead of amicably disagreeing? Really? I don't say this to be condescending, but you sound very young.

People are allowed to disagree on a game being good or bad, lad. I would give a similar assessment of any Halo game I've played (1-3), Killzone 2's single player, or even Gran Turismo 5.

Are they bad games? No. But to me, nothing special, bordering on mediocre. And frankly, that's okay. That's the beauty of having a difference of opinion: not everyone's experience or taste is right down Main Street.

If you wanted to critique the review, that's fair. Let's not attack people for having a different perspective.

Abbott1231437d ago

This is N4G though, also known as the playstaion PR defence force. Instead of being a place where gamers can openly share their opinions and love for gaming, we have to agree that anything sony is amazing, anything microsoft is anti consumer otherwise your an idiot.

DarXyde1437d ago

Abbott123,

I don't disagree that there is an obvious slant toward Sony *now*, but I think that plays out more with the zeitgeist than anything. Before I officially joined the site, during gen 7, there was a very good argument to be made that the site was actively hostile towards PlayStation and accommodating for Xbox 360. I myself am a PlayStation gamer primarily (let's say 80/18/2 between Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft nowadays) and it was pretty awful. Then again, N4G is, at its heart, a news aggregation site - it is a reflection of the articles being written by the media.

Setting that aside though, speaking about personal biases isn't the intention of my above comment - I just think a dissenting opinion met with personal attacks is immature. Arguing the merits of the review are fair.

Imalwaysright1437d ago (Edited 1437d ago )

Now? I can't say what was happening until I joined this website in 2007 but in that year even though things were a lot more balanced than they are now the slant towards Sony was already showing in both the agree/disagree ratio and in the amount of bubbles users had however I must say that unlike today a person wouldn't get a barrage of replies with the usual obnoxious remarks we see today just because they didn't speak in favor of Sony. Fast forward 2 or 3 years and this website was a full on playstation fanboy cesspool and has been ever since and I don't want to hear excuses about there being more playstation fans as there is a huge difference between being a Playstation fan and an obnoxius and idiotic playstation fanboy.

Abbott1231437d ago

DarXyde

Yes I was simply stating that N4G is full of the “very young” users you alluded to in your original comment. You didnt need to go on a tangent about personal bias and what N4G is. Theres more playstation users than xbox users so of course theres going to be a “slant” in bias. Thats fine. What isnt fine is treating somebody with disrespect beucause they have a different opinion. Some users here act like they've sworn an allegiance to the plastic box under their TV.

the score is incorrect, it was given a 6 not a 5. Either way I disagree with it. To whomever wrote this: if there's demand for a sequel then clearly it did enough to deserve it.
I encourage you all to actually read the review, if only to keep in mind the reasons stated for the low scoring. Then think hard and without bias of how many games hold the same issues that still get praised by the media

JEECE1438d ago

Guys, just don't click it or read it. It's Metro; you wouldn't care about their opinion if the score was high, so why do you care that it's low? This is a classic "look at me!" review.

Days Gone PS5 Is a 'Really Good Piece of Work', Say Tech Experts

Sammy writes: "Back when Days Gone Remastered was announced, many fans were squinting to see the differences between the excellent original PS4 version and its PS5 re-release.

But now with the game readily available – and our 8/10 review declaring it the “definitive version of a fan favourite” – we’re beginning to get some meaningful tech analysis.

And according to Digital Foundry, this is not just the bare-bones resolution upscale some had anticipated – “a lot of effort has gone into it”, according to the tech experts. "

First game sell well enough to warrant a sequel? Our received well enough?

Alos886d ago

It sold well but reviewed only okay, which apparently wasn't enough for Sony.

Cacabunga6d ago

Sold well and received even better.. had a bad first month due to technical issues but ended up being one of the best games from last gen

Knightofelemia6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

That's the nature of the beast. If a game like a movie does not meet certain numbers then they write off the franchise. EA scrapped DS2 because the DS1 remake did not meet certain numbers. I was hoping the remaster of DG and the fact it also came to PC would convince Sony to green light a DG sequel.

PanicMechanic5d ago

Critic reviews were appalling. The worst reviewed game I’ve ever seen. By that I mean, poor quality journalism, dishonest writing and review scores which are out of touch with fan reception.

Huge difference i must admit, but not sure i would notice without 2 screens next to each other.

Not getting this game still, i want a new game and im tired of remasters

Muigi11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

It’s $10 and there are plenty of games out there for you.

Flewid63811d ago

Then its not a huge difference?

Killer2020UK10d ago

Of course you wouldn't, nobody would. If you have never experienced the other, then you don't have the reference needed for comparison.

TheEroica10d ago

Sony getting ready to milk some more people on dumb products.... I can see the psvr1 and 2 owner salivating over days gone remaster. Lol. What a ruse song is pulling.

Knushwood Butt10d ago

How can Sony milk customers if it's such a 'dumb product'? If it's so dumb, nobody will buy it, and there's no milking.
Plus, there's nothing preventing people from getting a copy of the PS4 version.

10d ago
Babadook710d ago

As a PSVR2 owner. Yup. If there’s a VR version I would be there day one.

Greg280110d ago

There are plenty of people who never had a chance to play this game, now they can with the remaster.

Don't understand why people who already played the game complain about a remaster. No one is forcing you to buy it. There are plenty of new games to play

marioJP8710d ago

Huge difference where? Besides blue color filter and darker lighting?

Tedakin11d ago

Sony is now remastering games with 71s on metacritic.

Bathyj11d ago

Like that's a judge of anything
This game got scored before it was released.

andy8511d ago

Days gone is 85+. It got heavily marked down at launch for bugs where as others get a free pass for that. It's a fantastic game.

Kosic10d ago

And it's not even a big overhaul remaster. It's list turning up the graphic level by one. It's quite embarrassing, as the original wasn't that bad. And the remaster isn't that noticeable

PanicMechanic10d ago

“And it's not even..”

Bugs bunny NO meme

TheEroica10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

Poorly remastering if images are to be believed.

Tapani10d ago

To me it was very close to The Last of Us Part I. It was that good quality.

PanicMechanic10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

Shut up. Best open world zombie game on the market

I spoiled myself by modding this game on my PC. Genuinely one of the best looking games I've ever seen. Whilst this remaster looks nice it just doesn't compare to that sadly. It shows the effort that these remasters could put in if they wanted

REDGUM11d ago

I so hope this game or DLC for those of us who own the original sells well.
Ive said it before, its an underrated game for sure & was unfairly judged upon release.
Please try this game if you haven't already.

For those who say 'i won't purchase digital only' you can pickup a hard copy for 5 bucks here in Australia, then add the DLC and you have a superb game for $20 or so.

Give it a shot, tell me I'm wrong After completing the game.

Game on gamers.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH11d ago

It was full of bugs at release I wouldn’t call that being unfairly judged. If you want your game to score well then release it in a completed state. Now with that being said I think the game was pretty good.

Knushwood Butt11d ago

It really wasn't.
The worst I encountered was a horde spawning on top of me when exploring a cave.
Did you even play this at launch?

S2Killinit10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

It wasnt full of buggs, it was very playable. That was the excuse for the hit job at launch before people started to speak up about how great the game was.
