Honestly, while I have been spoiled on 60 as of late... im not going to knock 30. Good games are good games no matter their res/fps.

RaidenBlack1466d ago

Nobody's knocking 30.
The above video contains a Simulated 60fps to showcase an idea of a performance mode for horizon II.
Similar to Miles Morales. That's what I pointed out. People here are just .......

anast1466d ago

I'm not touching this until they get running at 160fps...

Activemessiah1466d ago

Not even the PS6 is gonna run that

RaidenBlack1466d ago

Wait, why am i getting downvoted?
The video indeed shows Simulated 60fps of Horizon II. To simulate the optional Performance mode it's bound to have ...
geez

SinisterKieran1466d ago

why are you telling people? it says right in the video, people aren't going to miss it.

Ddog451466d ago

because you're in a sony comment section and that's what they like to do.

anast1466d ago

I didn't downvote you, if that helps. I just think this stuff is comical.

Mr_cheese1466d ago

Im going to take a guess that the downvotes are based on you being the top comment which is largely glossing over the positive topic in hand and instead focusing on an issue you see with fps

CaptainHenry9161466d ago (Edited 1466d ago )

What's funny and mind-boggling is that this game looks a lot better than some of my current PC games and I'm running a rtx 3080 with a Ryzen 5950x 🤔 I guess it really does come down to the developer's. Even digital foundry was shocked how this game looked. It must be the decima engine because this is a cross gen game

https://youtu.be/wNzOBzuRk_...

Computersaysno1466d ago (Edited 1466d ago )

Trade off for 30FPS with some obvious lighting limitations on the characters as DF pointed out repeatedly. Metro Exodus Enhanced for PC though comfortably outstrips anything in terms of lighting. Major ray traced lighting engine, beyond any game seen on consoles thus far. It's a 100FPS game on a 3080 too thanks to DLSS. Even a mere RTX3060 does 60FPS.

It's unlikely the consoles will be able to match that even in future because of the limited ray tracing performance, at a much reduced resolution most likely. Their versions will no doubt be analysed in a couple weeks when they launch.

Robodrake1466d ago

"Trade off for 30FPS"

- How many times does this need to be said to people that are having chests pains dealing with this game. For the last time, get it right, there will be a 60fps mode. Can we all stop being stupid for a second please?

CaptainHenry9161466d ago

@Computersaysno

"Trade off for 30FPS with some obvious lighting limitations on the characters as DF pointed out repeatedly"

If there's a 60fps mode during launch then what will be the trade off? I'm starting to think it's more about the developer's and who makes the game that is important. A 30fps game shouldn't look better than high end PCs game that can run all games in 60fps-120fps unless I'm blind. Dude I'm going by what my eyes 👀 see and Horizon Forbidden West is definitely a looker and something special. I would love to play this on PC if I could

Computersaysno1465d ago (Edited 1465d ago )

If there is a 60FPS mode then it'll obviously give up a lot of resolution, a lot of quality settings or a fair bit of both. So let's say you clean halve the resolution to get 60FPS. That's a trade off. Only dim witted people Robodrake think the game can look the same when the same hardware has half the time to render a frame.

There is no free win when it comes to console performance.

There is a reason why they showed the 30FPS 'quality' mode, because that'll be the best the game can look in terms of visual fidelity for a showcase. Any 60FPS mode will compromise on the fidelity side to achieve that. I'm sure the game would still look great but it won't look as good as it does in 30FPS mode. Inevitable!

I'm spewing straight facts here whether you like to hear it or not, get over it.....

CaptainHenry9161465d ago (Edited 1464d ago )

@Computersaysno

"There is no free win when it comes to console performance"

I have to agree with you on that and that's the reason I would like to play it on PC. Probably going to have to wait 2 or 4 years for that

One of the things that impressed me is Aloy's hair, especially in the underwater segment.

Bathyj1466d ago

The underwater hair is amazing. People are sleeping on this.

darthv721466d ago

I wonder if they will introduce some sort of weight mechanic to the DS when entering / exiting water? Like in life, you feel lighter moving in water (less resistance) and when getting out, all that gear and clothing being wet, it would feel heavier until you dry off.

That could be an interesting use of the controller.

KillBill1466d ago

It was the underwater talking that had me confused. Then I thought... well maybe she was just thinking in her head and not actually talking while under water. But then she started grunting during physical movements under water and I thought... ok she is grunting in her head too?

Tacoboto1466d ago

I definitely noticed it. The way the light hit it, the bounce when she moves, the way it didn't seem to clip into her weapon.

gleepot1466d ago

Sure clips into her body though.

Tacoboto1466d ago

The blades of grass certainly did (especially before the assassination move), but I didn't spot the hair clippage.

Guess I'll just have to watch it again, oh darn

Rainbowcookie1466d ago

I felt some aspects were still not done. Lots of clipping of Aloys hair and clothes, foilage also doesnt seem to work properly at all times. They could just use the same technique they used for the sand as the tremortusk attacked. Some of the destruction also just looked like piles of rocks... This felt like a very work in progress build. Hopefully its just a lack of final polish rather than ps4 holding them back. The final lighting was rather impressive. I do agree the underwater scenes looked the most polished.

porkChop1466d ago

It looks incredible. Imagine the games and visuals we'll get later in the gen. We're in for a treat.

gamer78041463d ago

Her face is messed up though, her eyebrows aren’t consistently angled correctly and they widened her face and cheekbones it looks like she just sat around and didn’t do anything for years which can’t be the case in the environment she lives in.

roadkillers1466d ago

Gross, she has freckles now. Why do you have to change the character Insomia... Guerrilla.

lucian2291466d ago

Most redheads have freckles, it's part of the mutation; only thing I'm not a fan of in new design is her rounder face; still pretty and more realistic I guess, but yeaaah

ExPresident1466d ago

Legend has it each freckle represents a soul a redhead has stolen.

anast1466d ago (Edited 1466d ago )

Yeah, I wonder why they decided to put massive jowls on her?

1466d ago
B68W1466d ago

Yeah, I noticed the rounder face as well. She already had a great established look, they didn't need to mess with that. No, she's not "realistically pretty" now, just puffier.

frostypants1466d ago (Edited 1466d ago )

@GlaciusZero it's not like male video game protagonists aren't GQ-looking guys. Yet people would definitely say something if they made, say, another Uncharted where Nathan Drake put on a few pounds. It's ok for fictional characters to look idealized. It's part of escapism. That said I don't think she looks all that different in the footage...I think it's just an awkward screenshot.

She has freckles in Zero Dawn too.

justadelusion1466d ago

her rounder face is whats cruel, gotta lay off the snacks

F0XH0UND9221466d ago

You are the epitome of incel. That's actually gross.

Robodrake1466d ago

"Gross, she has freckles now."- and you have chest pain

ScootaKuH1466d ago

Gross? What's wrong with freckles?

darksky1466d ago (Edited 1466d ago )

The real life actress for Aloy (Hannah hoekstra) still looks like the original Aloy so why did they devs make her look worse in the new game? Looks like she has been over-eating since the last game.

AmUnRa1466d ago

Dude whats wrong with you? freckles are gross? I have heard a lot of bullshit in my life but this tops it all...

1465d ago
Consistus1466d ago

Idiot! Those aren't freckles.
They're the rusty endings of her steel nerves!

gamer78041463d ago

Freckles are fine but yah her face was done poorly and doesn’t look right.

So lame, a tech demo was conducted to test new technology. This is nothing new; they've been doing this since the 1980s. There have been thousands of tech demos that led to nothing. That said, AI is here to stay, and it will eventually find its way into games in one form or another. It's time to stop the overly dramatic reactions and accept reality.

Christopher69d ago

Talk about a 180 midway through your argument. Perhaps that 180 is why people are talking about it?

darthv7269d ago

What he said was not wrong though... AI is here and being used more and more is different industries. Its not like it is going away anytime soon.

Christopher69d ago

@darth: Where did I say he was wrong other than expressing that it's this thinking that people are talking about it? He complained about people talking about a tech demo being shown to the public as an expression of AI's use being popularized and then proved it with his own words. I didn't say they were wrong, only it only gives credence to those who are worried about the popularization and use of AI in the industry to replace actual actors.

Rancegamerx68d ago

I can see what you mean. What I am getting at is just because they did a tech demo with Aloy using AI to voice doesn't meam that this particular tech will ever actually be used. Although I personally think it will, if we can get voices to sound more natural and real. Unless it's stopped by voice actors.

darthv7268d ago

that is the current situation. voice actors are 'voicing' their concern over the use of AI. im sure you have heard those TV commercials where you can tell its an AI voice. But as things improve... there will be a point where nobody will be able to tell the difference.

Mr_cheese69d ago

Thegamer are quickly highlighting themselves as a website full of over the top BS

gold_drake69d ago

there is this website from a bunch of devs who developed a more enhanced AI conversational voice thing, where u can talk to them.

i did for 10 minutes and it freaked me out how real it sounded. it did glitch a few times but damn. the, in real time, chatter and response was amazing and frightening at the same time ha

Kyizen68d ago

One of the original Toy Story developers summed it up nicely. Basically when they were doing Toy Story people were shocked you are going from hand drawn art to computers but now no one blinks an eye and most if not all anime is 'drawn' on computers. But he also stated this didn't replace artist but just gave them a new tool to use. Now with AI the author is saying it will replace writing but it won't, using it to have dynamic conversations with NPCs or chatter as the character explores the world will avoid that repetitive banter. You will still need writers to craft a good story and make a compelling character(s).

No horizon 3 i beg you Sony .. enough of this series already

pwnmaster300089d ago

It literally only had 2 main games and 2 dlc.
Sure it had some spin off but others have more
Halo
Gears
Elder scroll
Uncharted
God of war
Gta
Etc.
Game isnt done yet and just because your tired of it doesn’t mean everyone is.

ravens5289d ago

Exactly. (*All following #s are slightly exaggerated*) There's like 36 CODs. 16 Assassin's Creed. 25 Final Fantasies. 80 Maddens. I hate when we're on the 3rd iteration of a game and people say this.

isarai89d ago

We've had 2 main games, 2dlcs, a vr spinoff, a lego spinoff and soon to be GAAS spinoff

lukasmain89d ago

Why not? It's popular. They're great critically acclaimed games. It need a 3rd game.

northpaws89d ago

@Cacabunga

Only speak for yourself, I want to know how the story ends.

raWfodog88d ago

Same here. I'm enjoying the story. I want to see what happens when Nemesis arrives.

JEECE89d ago

It all depends on if it's actually a massive step forward or if it just feels like an iterative sequel. There's a lot of revisionist history now about how "mid" Horizon has always been, but people weren't saying that when Zero Dawn came out-people were pretty much universally into it. The major hit against it at the time was that it came out too close to Breath of the Wild.

The problem with Forbidden West is that it took five years and it was just an iterative sequel. Iterative sequels can be fine, or even great, but when five years pass and a new generation of consoles comes out, people expect a big jump, and they didn't get it. Stuff that worked in 2017 felt tired by 2022.

3 can't just be Forbidden West with slightly better graphics. It needs to actually be a meaningful leap.

ravens5289d ago

Im looking forward to the 3rd game. I'd like that to be the last one though. New IP after would be ideal.

jznrpg89d ago

Took me a little while to get into Forbidden West because I was playing on hard but it was really damn good once I got into a groove.

I want to see the ending of this trilogy so hopefully it’s not too far out. Hopefully whoever plays Sylens can do the character justice.

isarai89d ago

I dunno, i LOOOOVED Zero Dawn, but i wanted Forbidden West to be over by like the halfway point. It's an absolutely gorgeous game but damn was it buggy for a while after release, and the enemies and combat felt so janky and unbalanced compared to the first.
