This was my most anticipated launch title, but now the repeat delays are making it feel like Driveclub.

I would rather have delays then ship the way DriveClub did. That tainted the whole experience for me as a day one DriveClub owner. The online was a complete mess in DriveClub on day one. To Sony's credit they fixed the game over the next 6 months, but, they shipped garbage just to ship it in that case.

And secondly, we are in a pandemic still. There are very few games that have not been delayed.

But Driveclub isn't an example of a game that launched on time and was bad because of it. It's an example of a game where repeated delays were insufficient to get it into a decent launch state even about a year after it was expected. Deathloop seems like it's fitting into a similar pattern, although fortunately the online aspect of Deathloop will be a much smaller component that it was for Driveclub, so even if that's a mess, the game could still be solid.

As far as the pandemic, we were in a pandemic when they delayed the game from November 2020 to May 2021. Nothing changed during that time pandemic-wise (except the vaccines and potential loosening of restrictions). If they had delayed to September right off the bat, I wouldn't have been saying this, but it's the fact that it in November they thought May was reasonable and they couldn't hit that.

Agreed for the most part.

But, I think the pandemic has played a big role in delays. The Ascent on XB was to be a launch game, and it is coming out in July now. Halo Infinite was a launch game and ended up going to Holiday 2021. God of War was announced for holiday 2021 and Sony has been quiet since. GT was supposed to be 2021 and it has been quiet since. Horizon was announced as 2021 and we haven't heard anything since. We have seen a ton of delays during this pandemic and I think we will continue to see more until normal fully returns.

As for Deathloop, there are a few variables here. First the pandemic, second it is a new IP. And third one that may have played more into this is Microsoft's takeover of Bethesda. Wasteland 3 was not published by Microsoft after they took over inXile, but MS worked with the publisher and got it delayed to raise its quality. Grounded was started before MS take over of Obsidian, and they took a different approach on its release delaying it. They let Bleeding Edge just finish because I think they wanted Ninja Theory to move on to Hellblade 2 quickly. Maybe MS sees potential in the IP so they are putting more money behind it from their side. We all know it is a PS timed exclusive, but if MS is long haul investing they may want this to be a really good IP.

Most games especially new ambitious ones have issues Day1 I must admit I was late to drive club but it was pretty decent when I was playing it. I get tho when you buy a new game you want it to work.

Spiderman: Miles Morales. Demon's Souls PS5. Hitman 3.

Returnal got a short delay but then hit the delayed date.

To be clear, I'm not ripping on them for delaying the game the first time. But they knew about the pandemic in fall 2020 when they did the first major delay, so that was already factored in.

Don’t understand that at all. In anyway 😑🤷🏻‍♂️ 🤣 driveclub was a pretty decent game had loads of content and was good fun looked fantastic and this game deathloop if it’s half as good as Dishonored (being from the same team) it’s gonna be an epic game, 90% of games got delayed in the last 12-18 months and many great ones before it got delays vice city got delayed majority of games get delayed. Impatient gamers create pressure to announce early to then fail to meet deadlines.
Deathloop is not fifa where they can use the same game from the last 5/7 years update the teams/soundtrack and make tweaks for tweaks sake. This a brand new original game and looks incredible I’m glad it got delayed have me overdue time on the backlog and great things come to those who wait. Think it’s gonna be fantastic myself probably the most anticipated game currently confirmed for me this year, star wars skywalker saga is a VERY close second 🤣
