The Def Jam game series has been laying dormant for over a decade at this point, but could we ever see a revival of some kind?
Interesting article, but I hope we don't.
Tell em. We need a Viewtiful Joe 3
Whut Fight for New York was awesome. Icon was pretty bad, but I'll give them some benefit because they tried to do something new. A direct sequel to FFNY would be grand, though in the era of microtransactions and EA being who they are now, one should tread carefully about that fantasy.
I hear you, but the rappers nowadays are completely lame and corny when compared to the rappers from FFNY. I rather take a remake from the game than a sequel.
You'll get no disagreement from me there. For some reason, I hadn't considered that there would be modern rappers. Christ. On the other hand, I wouldn't be mad if they added more Wutang members so I can "torture" Tekashi69. :D
we definitely need it to return, but nothing like Icon since that was trash. The mechanics of Def Jam fight for NY and Vendetta was still great til this day.
Oh man, remake of Fight for NY would be awesome.
I hope so. Just go back to the Fight for New York style, and forget Icon ever happened.
Man I used to really love DJ Fight for NY and DJ Icon back in the day. I hope someone (not EA) can revive this franchise.
Icon sucks, I admit. But I used to love the DJ games so much that I was willing to accept any game thrown in my way.
Just go back to Fight for New York. Improve on that. Icon had a decent story, but it was full of so many half-baked ideas that detracted from the experience/gameplay.
A port of any of them would be difficult because of renewing licenses. Which rappers would they even put in a modern day entry? Def Jam is a shadow of its former self Still have a PS2, a multitap and 4 controllers for games like FFNY,
Do we need to see one?
Hell yeah, you may not like it but I know several people who do. You how much money they will make. Especially now. Kids these days will eat this up.
We do not. Just nostalgia I believe.
Is def jam even still around? I wouldn’t know most new rappers they put in. If it was still redman and all of them I’d love it lol.
I'm the same way lol. Was never into too much rap, but I played the original game back in the day, and still knew many of the rappers used. I'd have no idea nowadays. That said, another entry in the series is so highly unlikely. The last game was another one of those "development hell" situations, didn't sell, and I highly doubt they'd work on another.
I love rap lol, my spiritual rhythm is hip hop. It’s just anything pre-2005 lol. I don’t do the mumble bullshit or the “eat my pu***” chick rap. Younglings love the mumble shit. It would probably sell boatloads. If Nicki Minaj can sell out pink crocs they can sell a new def jam. Just not to people like me.
Me and my wife played the hell out of the first two. If the put it in vendetta or fight for New York style I’m beyond down.
Not a prayer. Def Jam license has no value anymore, and the AKI engine hasn't been used in what, 20 years? If it were brought back, it'd be for WWE or AEW.
If it's not remasters of Vendetta and Fight for NY, keep it.
DJ and DJFFNY were good because they were developed by AKI/ASMIK. The same team that developed N64 WWF games. If its by the same team, sure, make a new one. If not, then nope, it'll be trash, like DJ Icon (the same team behind Tony Hawk Ride and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 if you didn't know). The director of WWF No Mercy is currently developing the upcoming AEW game, so there's hope for that to replace Def Jam series. But we'll have to reserve judgement until we can actually play it. I also wouldn't mind dropping the Def Jam license and making it kind of like Smash Bros in the sense that many different game IPs come together for a beat down of epic proportions. I'd love that so much, but it'll never happen.
i hope not, we need new IPs instead of all these frickin remaster/remakes
FFNY was so good
The sad answer is: no
Who are the rappers going to be? I would love to backhand machine gun Kelly or Takashi 69, but let’s be honest, rappers back then we’re way cooler, dudes these days got painted finger nails and the real beef takes place on Twitter.
Would’ve loved a new Def Jam game. Last one I played was back on the Nintendo GameCube.
