Games Like Outriders Really Need Offline Modes

Kotaku : Earlier today, I was playing Outriders. I was in the middle of a mission, about to beat a tough enemy, when I was disconnected from the servers. An error message popped up and that was that. But I was playing alone, in an area only filled with NPCs in a game with no PVP. So why did I even need to be online?

I have a series X so didn’t have to pay for it but I would’ve. Been having a blast with two friends. This game isn’t for people that want to play alone.

I wouldn't play it even if I had Gamepass. I already spent hours in the beta/demo and that was plenty for me. Bad graphics, unoriginal, and just a lack of quality. Lip syncing is laughable, character models are terrible. It's just not very good. The shooting is decent but the melee and power abilities were wildly disappointing. It just looks like the game was meant to be something more. In the end, it's exactly what I feared, more Anthem/Defiance/Avengers style fodder.

Me too I didn't know this game didn't have an offline mode, that's an even bigger reason for me not to buy it

I'd have loved it if Monster Hunter World got one, some of those battles could be long, it would have been nice to pause the game to take a breather.

Well yeah, even though it's "offline" it still acts like it's online

I mean why can't you pause the game when offline if the game is actually offline.

The reason you can't online is because the game has to keep going, but offline it should be able to do it no problem.

MH games have been like that since the very first game though
I’ll say at least you can suspend and resume games now to account for that issue

MH: Rise added a pause button ~ but as it's a switch game it's unnecessary lol, it's actually more effort to navigate to pause mid action (it's nested in the live-menu) than it is to hit sleep!

It’s a co-op. Not intended to be played single player. It’s evident when you play.

While SP may not be the ideal way to play, they have been promoting that this game can be enjoyed SP as well as co-op. If you are going to promote it, it should at least be playable that way. There must be a reason for this. I wasn't really that impressed with the game personally, so I don't really have a horse in the race, but I'm just curious why devs do this. Is it just easier, are they able to sell the data, what gives?

You can play it Solo, disable cross-play, and turn off matchmaking, solo play :p

I bought the physical copy from Best Buy, oh well. I mean, I am enjoying it so far. Just not a big fan of all these required online only games. I have returned a few opened games thru the mail with Best Buy and was given the full refund. Cellophane was still on the game, but opened at the bottom. They are a little more strict about it if you try returning it in store.

idk about this game but the reason is usually to prevent save file tampering, if you can play it offline that means the game saved its file in your local storage, which means it can be easily edited.

usually implemented to guard for pvp fairness or "free" microtransaction

Except another looter shooter, Borderlands lets you play completely offline if you want to.

so did a lot of other multiplayer games, that's why I said it's usually for keeping fairness in pvp or making sure players can't obtain microtransaction items for free.

Take a look at what kingdom hearts union cross is doing, they will release an update to the game that makes the game fully playable offline when the servers close later. thats how you should do it on every online only game that has story content.

My biggest annoyance with online only is that the quick resume feature on my XSX doesn't work. After getting used to it, it's a notable absence.

Yeah quick resume will not work with any game that requires connection to a server to start.
