Why are Monster Hunter's in-game tutorials so unfriendly to new players?

GN writes: "Monster Hunter is a major franchise from one of the biggest publishers in the video game business. Why does it deliver information in an endless barrage of text boxes instead of showing the player what to do? And why does it withhold so much vital information from players?"

Can we ask for Dark Souls to be easier at the same time or maybe buy you some Huggies for the next time you game?

DarkkMinion1514d ago

Gotcha. Exactly what I thought. They should also decrease the ESRB age rating so that more kids can get into it.

Kornholic1513d ago

Why are you defending ineffective communication?

Neonridr1514d ago

It's always been like that. Monster Hunter games, minus World have a very steep learning curve.

Gameseeker_Frampt1513d ago

MH Rise is even easier than World so I don't see why anyone is still complaining about the learning curve. It is amusing seeing the fanboys who attacked World for not having g-rank or as many monsters as the Generations compilation be completely silent about Rise also not having g-rank and about the same amount of monsters as World.

Neonridr1513d ago

I mean that remains to be seen. Someone who has played World would know how the game works. You'd have to find someone who's never played both, then ask them. I would be biased since I've played a few of the titles now (including World).

AspiringProGenji1514d ago

In these games you learn more by playing than reading tutorials.

Shiken1513d ago (Edited 1513d ago )

Yeah, I find the tutorials in Rise basic enough to not take up my time, but informative enough to get the idea and figure it out on my own. This actually made the learning process better for me, and I did not feel like I was getting blasted with too much info to process at once.

PapaBop1514d ago

Because Capcom, they never knew and still don't know how to do tutorials properly, look at the SF series in comparison to what Arc Sys done in recent years with Guilty Gear.

Rise is a good get for me since I didn't trust the riding/fighting with monsters gimmick to be enjoyable. Now I can check it out

Goosejuice343d ago

Rise is a very good game. The monster riding thing is neat and can help quite a bit with breaking parts off.

Einhander1972343d ago

They also added a bunch of games as part of Days of Play

Six PSVr 2 games

Before Your Eyes
Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord - Frozen Empire
Synth Riders
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners - Chapter 1
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners - Chapter 2
Walkabout Mini Golf

And three PS2 games

Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus
Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Tomb Raider: Legend

The three PS2 games have full emulation support including save states and and a rewind function as well as full button mapping, 4 different graphical modes and added trophy support.

InUrFoxHole343d ago

Rise is the only one I find interesting but a good list

Shane Kim343d ago

Man, Crusader Kings and Anno are damn epic. You should give them a try.

darthv72343d ago

I am hopeful that with each passing entry of PS1/2 games that get released on +... they will make it so you can use your own discs to download the updated and compatible version for the PS4/5. Like what XB does with its BC games.

bloop342d ago

Ghosthunter!! Wow!! Now there's a blast from the past!! One of those strange games where I remember it so vividly yet can't remember a single thing about it.

I have had my eye on Monster Hunter Rise for a while now, so big win here.

crazyCoconuts343d ago

So PS has quietly added PSVR2 games to Premium!
Seems to go beyond Days of Play.
Good discount on upgrading to premium right now, so I'll bite for the VR titles alone.

Profchaos343d ago

This was well needed as a psvr2 owner looking at psvr2 games to buy it can be a total crapshoot if they bare going to be any good or even work properly sonits nice to see them finally come to PS plus as a way to try a wider variety of games I may not have touched out of worry there was a problem with it

jznrpg343d ago

Some good games in there and some I haven’t played yet

Abnor_Mal343d ago

Glad that Kayak VR is part of premium, now I can try it, not a game that I wanted to buy to be honest.

I just recently bought Monster Hunter Rise, but haven’t started it yet.

What ever happened to premium getting the PS2 game G-Police?

darthv72343d ago

And this is why I like sub services as you dont know if you like something until you try it. Hence, the 'try before you buy' approach is not all bad.

Abnor_Mal343d ago (Edited 343d ago )

I have no intention of buying the game, never did. I do want to see the graphics since that’s what I was hearing being talked about when it first came out.

I get the whole idea of try before you buy, I’m not opposed to that, or Gamepass/subscriptions in general.

But when a large section of a platforms gaming community ops for subscriptions instead of buying their games out right, we see where that leads to with paltry sales on the platform for those same games.

You may be an exception compared to many others who out right say if a game is not on a sub service they will not buy the game. Or since game A is on a sub service then game B or any other game should be on a sub service. That’s when the industry suffers as a whole.

Profchaos343d ago

We got g police about two months ago I've got it loaded on my console now but it was on PS1 I never knew there was a PS2 version

darthv72343d ago

There is no PS2 version of G Police.

Abnor_Mal343d ago

Yea my bad, I said PS2 by accident. I really don’t remember seeing it on offer and only remember seeing people talk about it. Now I’m going to have to check my backlog of plus games.

Steam Uproar as Capcom Slips In Restrictive DRM Software

From Xfire: "Steam users and the larger PC gaming community are lashing out at Capcom over a streak of sneaky DRM updates as the Japanese gaming giant continues to flirt with controversy"

LordoftheCritics481d ago

RIP

Capcom turning into Ubisoft.

Well success can have that effect.

just_looken481d ago

Yep this shows how bad a digital world is now well for the old titles new games disc or not the drm is there but you can get the old games on dvd then try to monkey the last pre drm update onto the game files.

I love GOG for this reason i saw that skyrim bs update so i know not to run that version as gog you can select what patch to download/install with capcom hopefully we get a list of the update numbers that add this horrific drm.

With denuvo as a alder lake pc user it still has issues with E cores and i remember when the servers were taken offline forcing hundreds of games to be paperweights.

FinalFantasyFanatic480d ago

It's also really annoying how they can cut or change content later, like the Skull Girls controversy, a decade later after the game came out, they decide to censor it. The game is a decade old, if it's not broken, leave it, adding DRM back into older games is BS.

just_looken480d ago

@final

Good point even major sp games got the cut after the fact be it last of us with maps/art or gta 5 removing stuff in the world.

Cyberpunk ps4 day one disc copy the sept build still has stuff the other versions no longer have.

With the gta 6 controversy right now i think back to the days of saints row creating a character beating up cops with a dildo bat and now we have elon crying over gta 6 guns killing cops i bet you if they made saints row 2 hd they would half to cut half the games content or go to jail lol also sad.

Was watching avatar last airbender 13yr old ang kissing katar again can not have that in a kids show or game now.

PRIMORDUS481d ago (Edited 481d ago )

Do they want more of their games to be torrented? Seems like it, I don't mind 🤣 Just ripped them a new asshole on Twitter, as I do not care what I say or post on there LOL.

banger88480d ago

Let me guess, you have a vpn enabled. For your sake I hope it's not in any 5 Eyes territories.

PRIMORDUS480d ago

I have ExpressVPN but on Twitter I don't use it lol. For other things I use it :D

Barlos480d ago

Nice. I got a lifetime ban on Twitter back in 2020 for speaking my mind. Don't care tbh, I'm not really into social media. I don't even have a Facebook account.

PRIMORDUS479d ago

I'm still trying to get banned to lol I'll keep at it 🤣 I have FB but maybe log in once a month but yeah always speak your mind no matter how bad the words come out, do not hold back online or IRL. Fuck them shit bags lol.

got_dam480d ago

This is classic Capcom. They everything they go on a hot streak and win back some consumer good will they have to turn around and burn it to the ground and have to start the whole process again.

Chocoburger480d ago (Edited 480d ago )

Additional DRM just pushes people to pirate more. These ignorant executives just don't get it. Only the legitimate customer is affected by DRM. 😕

Darkegg480d ago

Drm punishes legit customers and encourage hackers. It’s the wrong way to go about it.
