The World Needs a New, AAA Anti-Gravity Racing Game

KeenGamer: "The time has come for a new anti-gravity racing game. For too long, consumers have made do with decent but lacking entries into the genre made by talented and underfunded developers. Publishers should cash in and give players the true AAA experience they crave."

Can someone please go and graffiti a bunch of F-Zero related art onto Nintendo's buildings... While we're at it, throw some Metroid art in as well. Maybe then they'll remember they actually have other IP's besides Mario and Zelda. Who am I kidding, they wouldn't recognize Samus or Captain Falcon anymore anyway lol.

This is one of the main reasons I hate Nintendo as a company. Unless it brings them buckets of money, they just don't care.

Neonridr1131d ago

I'm sure a new F-Zero would do just that though, bring them buckets of money. I've been dying for one since GX on the Cube.

Snookies121131d ago (Edited 1131d ago )

See, you've got to look at it from Nintendo's perspective. Nintendo's perception of "buckets of money" is a Mario game. Because that will always sell way more than F-Zero would. Same with Zelda always outselling Metroid. Why take a risk bringing back a series that isn't actually assured to rake in money? That seems to be their mindset now.

I'm sure F-Zero would still make a good amount of money, but clearly Nintendo doesn't think it's worth the time to invest in it. Because it will never make as much as a Mario game will unfortunately.

As a side note, I did absolutely love GX. I played the hell out of that game, over and over. Some of the most thrilling racing I've ever experienced in a game. Which is why it hurts knowing that Nintendo just doesn't care about the series anymore.

I always thought Nintendo should have bought Shin'en and gave them the rights to F-Zero after seeing their good job with Fast Racing League on the Wii U and Switch.

Maybe Sony will surprise us with another Wipeout too.

darthv721130d ago

that would be an ideal developer to make a new FZero. They certainly have the chops to pull off that sensation of speed and quick reflex driving. Hell, Id love to see them make a switch update to some of their previous games like Iridion and Nanostray

Outlawzz1130d ago

Yea shin'en did amazing with fast racing. I just couldn't play for hours on end because it lacked that "one more round" appeal for me but I enjoyed it for what it was.

If they could make the same game with some fzero characters and maybe a decent story campaign i think it would sell pretty well.

Gameseeker_Frampt1130d ago

Shin'en is really all over the place with game genres though and I'm not sure they would want to make another racing game. Their last 4 games are Nano Assault (twin stick shooter), Fast Racing Neo (anti-grav racer), Art of Balance (puzzle), and The Touryst (3rd person adventure). Definitely an interesting studio.

The chance of Sony making a new Wipeout under the leadership of Jim Ryan is next to nothing.

Neonridr1130d ago

oh for sure, Shin'en definitely isn't just a one genre studio. I just meant they did such a good job with Fast Racing, and it's so much like F-Zero already.

SullysCigar1131d ago

Go play Wipeout Collection on PSVR. It feels amazing and looks gorgeous - like a next gen leap in terms of the experience it provides.

Neonridr1130d ago

it's like that scene from the movie Hackers taken to the next level :P

Inverno1130d ago

get used to it, the AAA industry will just get further and further from their PS2 and early PS3 days. Gone are the days of arcade-ish racers and platformers. Now all we get are TPS with realistic graphics. Every indie dev team made of industry vets end up making some generic multiplayer or another shooter while every small indie dev either make another generic 2D platformer or struggle to make something in 3D.

WipEout was underappreciated. Would love a new one where they go all out, but really F Zero would probably be the only one that wouldn't bankrupt a company being AAA. It's a Niche Genre WipEout and F Zero realistically are the only 2 options if you want AAA

F-Zero 99 is Peak Nintendo, But Not the F-Zero We Wanted

F-Zero 99 is a fantastic new way to play the franchise, but it falls far short of a new game built for modern hardware.

PRIMORDUS223d ago (Edited 223d ago )

I would have loved a F-Zero GX remake, not remaster, or a brand new F-Zero game.😞

Agent75223d ago

The problems with that are it'd probably weigh in at a full price game and it wouldn't include the AX tracks that are weirdly in the GameCube version but can't be accessed.

PRIMORDUS222d ago (Edited 222d ago )

Actually I thihk you can get the AX tracks but it's really hard to do it. https://www.reddit.com/r/Ga...
But I think you might still need to find the arcade of AX, that would be nearly impossible today. There is hope, there is a rom hack for the GC rom that has all the AX tracks in there. 😁 Just search for: F-Zero AX Direct Boot

Abear21223d ago

This. Why Nintendo won’t fan service us with this and give Wave Race the same treatment is beyond me. Switch 2 launch games would sell them out of consoles, but we’ll prolly just get another Mario because they figure that’s enough. Sadly, they are correct.

Soy223d ago

If you want more F-Zero, make sure to give this one some love then.

sadraiden223d ago (Edited 223d ago )

Was Tetris 99 a new game built for modern hardware? What about Mario 99?

Does this person not know that Fzero 99 is built on the SNES title? Were they actually expecting a brand new Fzero game? hahahahaha
Also, what's with all of the spammy ass tags?

F-Zero GX's turning 20 today but it certainly doesn't look like it

Let’s break out the wine glasses and celebrate the legacy of the last great entry in this overlooked Nintendo racing franchise with F-Zero GX!

I bought this for GameCube the day it released, it was fantastic and I think a Switch port would totally hold up as well as Metroid Prime did. I would buy this again…

z2g244d ago

Does that say something good for the game or something bad about the progress of graphics over 20 years?

ShwaaMan242d ago

It says something good about the game. Some age well and some don’t. Standard practice for games today and features can’t be compared to 2003 because we simply weren’t there yet. Features that are standard now hadn’t even been dreamed up yet back then, it’s called progress, everything is changing incrementally all the time.
If you don’t see the ridiculously impressive difference in graphics between games released today vs 20 years ago then you don’t really know what you’re talking about. Games are approaching film quality CG in real time now. You sound like an entitled kid who doesn’t know how good he has it, who also wasn’t even here 20 years ago.

hduce244d ago

It would be a day one buy for me if this was re-released on the Switch. My favorite racing game on the Switch is Fast RMX. I would like a sequel to that game as well.

Agent75244d ago

As long as Nintendo made the AX tracks accessible. They’re hidden in GX on the GameCube.

Agent75244d ago

The AX tracks are hidden on GX on the GameCube. Weird how you can only access them using a Datel cheat disc.

DarXyde243d ago

Absolutely loved this game. Nintendo needs to stop messing around and give us a new F-Zero.

I think they're scared of releasing a new entry after all this time and the sales don't meet their expectations. There are very few racing games I'd pay full price for, but a new F-Zero? I would get a limited edition if they offered it.

F-Zero GX, a Twenty Year Reunion

WTMG's Leo Faria: "I love F-Zero GX. I loved it back then, and I love it to this day. It has aged like the finest cabernet sauvignon. And because of that, I almost understand why Nintendo has never developed or greenlit a proper follow-up: there is just nothing you can do to topple it. It would be the one instance I’d be totally okay with just re-releasing a remaster, as the final product is just too good, too damn near perfect. But that doesn’t mean I don’t miss a new F-Zero. Even though games like Fast RMX and Pacer have managed to scratch the itch, F-Zero GX just hits differently. The best futuristic racing game of all time? Absolutely. The best racing game of all time in general? It’s a plausible discussion. Happy 20th anniversary F-Zero GX. You freaking phenomenal piece of software."
