AMD's Equivalent to DLSS, FidelityFX Super Resolution Is Coming to PS5 & Xbox Series

Nvidia may have the clear advantages over AMD thanks to it’s DLSS, but it seems that the company is holding back as it has been stated that they are launching their FidelityFX Super Resolution feature when it’s ready. This includes cross-support for the latest next-gen consoles, the PS5 and Xbox Series.

Awesome. Anything that can help solid 60+ Fps is a good thing.

Nitrowolf2825d ago (Edited 825d ago )

Yep. Hopefully it's implemented well. I do like sharp resolution, but i prefer performance gains to 60 fps. With this maybe we can get best of both worlds

Eonjay825d ago

If you look at DLSS you can get sharper image than native resolutions. This is why people have been talking about resolution as a non factor going forward.

Coming to ps5, series x and even series 💩. Seriously, I wonder if series s has the extra gpu resources to make proper use of ml supersampling.

Mr Pumblechook825d ago (Edited 825d ago )

I watched a YouTuber called Colt Eastwood who said DLSS would only be coming to Xbox Series X and would allow the console to beat the PS5 in all game performance comparisons. The way he was talking it sounded like he knew what he was talking about?

IRetrouk825d ago (Edited 825d ago )

Colt? Hes a joke, has made all sorts of claims that are based on nothing more than what's in his head🤣🤣

cd1825d ago

@Mr P

That colt guy is a right little tit, he fanboys for XB just for clicks - he needs a slap.

OptimusDK825d ago

@iretrouk it is not about sporting it... It is about what hw implemented the is behind it. And there is no doubt that xbox will have an edge here by going wide with more rops than going with higher frequency. I am sure xbox will have an advantage here.

Mr Pumblechook825d ago

@IRetrouk FFS! He was talking about the chipsets like he was a tech expert, and he had Aaron Greenberg on his show I assumed maybe he had some insider information - so he's just a grifter! 🤣

IRetrouk825d ago (Edited 825d ago )

@optimus, heard that for the last year!! Xbox has higher this and that so games will run better etc etc etc, results aint really shown that at all, I aint listening to these fake insiders and tech experts anymore🤷‍♂️

@pumble 💯

Example 3 👀 peep the date, what behind the scenes stuff was he hearing🤔🤷‍♂️ 🤣

People are going to complaint with "it's not real 4K (even though it's indistinguishable to the naked eye), it's DLSS 4k". So stupid.

JEECE825d ago

Yep, can't wait to see that.

GameBoyColor825d ago

Maybe console fan boys will but the PC community loves DLSS, it's literally black magic with performance gains and quality AA.

isarai825d ago

My complaint is ghosting, makes for muddy motion. That being said im basing my concern off TAA and haven't actually seen DLSS in person, not sure if it's the same

Eonjay825d ago

@GameBoyColor

That's the thing people don't know.
The ability to increase things like AA are what help produce a better image than a GPU can do at native resolutions.

It's the equivalent of working smarter not harder.

cd1825d ago

@Gameboy

No as far as i can see it was the PCMR criticizing checkerboard rendering saying it isn't native. If they had played God of war running on either PS4 Pro or PS5 they would think differently. They talk as if they know so much more than anyone else but that's far from the truth.

QSPR825d ago

@isarai
you need to change your monitor, I can bet you it's a VA panel. IPS is the way to go if you want to game without ghosting, flickering and less input lag.

FPS_D3TH825d ago

@isarai as someone with a 3080 who’s tried dlss on a few games now. It’s goddamn voodoo and the difference in 4K and dlss image quality is indistinguishable but you’ll love the performance gains

isarai825d ago

I dunno, looking it up seems like ghosting is still an issue with DLSS 😒

825d ago
isarai825d ago

No i haven't seen it in person, but plenty of people who have say ghosting is still an issue. There's no shortage people complaining about ghosting after enabling DLSS with a quick google search. Not really baseless when plenty of posts online are complaining about it with screenshots of the issue. Not confusing it at all, look it up yourself.

Tapani825d ago (Edited 825d ago )

@isarai,

I have played multiple games with RTX /DLSS combo on both RTX 3080 and RTX 3070, and can confirm ghosting is an issue. The lower your rendering resolution is, the worse the ghosting becomes. I tested mostly games like Control, Metro Exodus, and The Medium, but it was there, and what I read online it's a common thing. I am actually more interested in a pure 85% gpu scaling + sharpening rather than 4K + DLSS. There's something strange about the DLSS2.0 image quality I can't really describe well, but it just isn't as immersive as 85% or native 4K. Somehow it doesn't feel as "3D" or pure, like there's a strange FOV effect or really small layer of vaseline on the screen. I guess no matter how much you use AI and ML, if it's low resolution like 1080p or 1440p you are upscaling, then you are upscaling a picture with less information. The algorithm has to create new information, and it somehow makes games look weird. Maybe most people won't feel that way, and that's why it's "magic" for them. For me, it wasn't.

This will allow raytracing at 4K60 without sacrificing other graphical features.

cd1825d ago

I hope so...then again Spiderman running in that new 60fps RT mode @ 1440p already looks great!

IRetrouk825d ago

Crazy how good that performance rt mode looks and feels, pure 🔥

Destiny1080825d ago

the card is targeting 1440p gaming the same as the series s

JackBNimble825d ago

And you have a problem with 1440p?
That seems kind of juvenile.

LucasRuinedChildhood825d ago (Edited 825d ago )

Was wondering when we'd hear about this. This should make it way easier to achieve 60fps with raytracing.

It's a shame that the launch games couldn't use this tech though.

JEECE825d ago

This is so good. DLSS 2.0 is awesome, so if the AMD version is anywhere near as good, I will be thrilled. And with this, there will really be no good excuse for games not hitting a solid 60 fps.
