Bugs aside, is Cyberpunk 2077 actually a good game?

CD Projekt Red is clearly an excellent storyteller, that much is indisputable - Game Invader's Martyn just wishes as much care and attention had gone into the gameplay as has clearly gone into the narrative. He'll soldier on through, and will see where the developer's roadmap of updates takes us into the future.

Glad you're enjoying it, sir/madam!!

phoenixwing1643d ago (Edited 1643d ago )

I'm just lucky I had a bit of money and bought a decent pc. Also I will add cdpr gog store app glitched to the point I had to download it from steam so I paid twice for the game on pc. I'm enjoying it though but if I didn't have money for a second copy I'd be complaining in every article. I also will no longer buy games from gog

NintendoInvader1643d ago (Edited 1643d ago )

Damn, that's rough! No way of getting a refund?

In an ideal world I'd be playing on PC but I'm waiting for the new graphics cards.

phoenixwing1643d ago

I hope you get the graphics card you want to buy soon. I have a 2070 super and it's good enough for me

Aeery1642d ago

Bugs aside (tbh i didn't have too many problems so far), this game is basically The Witcher on steroids. So, yeah, this game is one of the best ever.

Army_of_Darkness1642d ago

Personally for me, gameplay and potential bugs and glitches go hand-in-hand because how can I enjoy the gameplay if I have these ridiculous bugs distracting me from fully enjoying and immersing myself into the game? So if there is a lot of game-breaking glitches then I would not consider it a good game

Depends what format you bought it on.

I gotta admit I’m only maybe 1 hour in on the street kid story but I’m not all that impressed so far. I’m on PC and running 1440p @60fps everything set to ultra including all rtx features. If I set it to psycho it drops to about 30fps. Not quite sure what all the fuss was about with it being a system killer. I run it on an i5 2070 super, both overclocked of course. I’m not as blown away by the graphics as I thought I was going to be. NPC’s are just stupid and their animation sucks. It also crashes quite regularly. So far in fact I think I was more impressed by RAGE. Gameplay-wise It all seems a bit shallow so far.

It’s a strange one so far. I hope my opinion changes soon. It will certainly get better through patches from CDPR but people reviewing it as 10/10 in its current form are a complete joke and shouldn’t be trusted!

phoenixwing1642d ago (Edited 1642d ago )

difference of opinion is fine, i never said it should be rated 10/10 (the bugs should bring the score down at least a couple points just to be fair to all the games they blasted when they had bugs). I actually like it though I played street kid and enjoyed it. I'm surprised you run it at ultra including rtx, I don't have a an overclocked 2070 super though mine is just at regular levels. I can't overclock my cpu either i have the f series of intel chip. Not even sure if I'd go through the trouble of overclocking (or even if the gpu brand can be overclocked), would rather my card lasted longer. I also have not crashed during gameplay whatsoever and only encountered real minor bugs.

1nsomniac1642d ago (Edited 1642d ago )

I think you’re more worried about overclocking than you should be. They’re designed to be. Every card can do it and it can be as simple as pressing one button on your software in some cases. It’s not going to have any real effect on the longevity of the card as long as your not stupid with it. I overclocked my 2070 Super the moment I installed it in my rig. It’s never been run at standard clocks since I got it. Runs at clocks 2040mhz and I think it’s 12000mhz mem. Or at least it did, the newest drivers seem to knock the clocks down fairly quickly to about 1990ish thanks to the 3000 series problems. Which I’m not happy about, why should my card suffer because of the poor quality issues of a different series of cards!

1nsomniac1641d ago

Ok I take it back. I seemed to have some sort of bug that wasn’t loading in full post processing properly in the environment and ray tracing wasn’t working fully either. It reloaded it all back in when I set the graphics back to psycho mode. So I’ve just left it at that. Amazingly it seems to be running a little better too. It does look pretty amazing and I am enjoying it a bit more. I’ve had to switch to a game pad. Driving with keyboard was terrible.

I would say my experience with it so far is yes, it is a good game. I don’t know if I would make it a 10/10 though.

nowitzki20041642d ago (Edited 1642d ago )

I agree. This is a good game, but its more of a 8/10. Its hard for any dev to match Witcher 3 quality including CDPR.

I am excited that they have a world now, work on it and hopefully their next game in this universe will be much better.

ikarodemon1643d ago

For a Elder Scrolls fan like me this game is a dream that come true. 10/10 with bugs.

VenomUK1643d ago

@ikarodemon Hi, I'm a big Elder Scrolls fan too eager to see how RPGs will develop. What is it you are enjoying most, the immersion in the world, complex missions, something else?

mkis0071643d ago (Edited 1643d ago )

ok so what is the score without bugs... You have given less than perfect a perfect score with nothing to aspire to.

there is no 11/10 score, just to be clear.

Ilovetheps51643d ago

I think he's joking because of how bug ridden elder scrolls/bethesda games are.

Shiken1643d ago (Edited 1643d ago )

Yeah I am loving it. I just feel lucky that I was able to get a Series X, otherwise I would have gotten it for PS4 Pro with no knowledge of the performance issues till it was too late.

Playing on quality mode and having a blast, but I feel like this should have been gen 9 console exclusive. It is advertised as a gen 8 game, but is a mess on those platforms. I would urge anyone to till they have a Series X/S or PS5 to play this game, because the gen 8 consoles don't do it justice.

Gaming4Life19811642d ago

I got it on my xbox one x and its great so far, cant wait til i get my series x and play it fully upgraded for next gen.

Releasing a Full Game On a Nintendo Switch 2 Cart Makes Sense

Begone, game-key carts. Full cartridges just work better and here's why.

Game key karts are just digital games.....why keep up the facade

Profchaos1d 23h ago

I didn't bother buying any game key carts for my system despite my preference being physical.
I brought the mkw bundle and that was a digital code but I wasn't going to pay double for the game
I got yakuza 0 digitally as the key card made zero sense to me it costs more and its just a digital game in disguise (I never sell my games anyhow)

darthv721d 22h ago

...obviously. If a game is 64gb or less, it should release on card. If it exceeds 64gb, the key card comes into play. It does suck that Nintendo wont support smaller cards, SW1 games came on anywhere from 8gb to 32gb cards. The cost of using a 64gb card for a game that would fit comfortably on a 32 or even 16 may not be cost effective for some smaller devs. Hence the use of the key card.

Then again, its taking a page out of Sony's book. They mandated the use of DVD media for all games a few years after the PS2 released. Until then, they supported games on CD. Then when it came to PS3, no game was allowed to use DVD, they all had to be bluray regardless.

Now with PS5, they only use UHD media, no regular bluray for games allowed. Even if the game is smaller than a DVD. So i can see Nintendo trying to standardize their game cards. If devs dont want to pay for the use... the key card is for them.

gigoran81d 10h ago

why even bother buying one of the fake game cards? It's just going to be digital anyway. Save yourself the hassle of having to insert these fake cards and just buy it from the online store.

But I absolutely 100% do not agree with Nintendos take this generation. Forcing the new norm price point, and releasing a majority of their titles digitally with no sense of game preservation. Very disappointing.
