Cyberpunk 2077: PS4 vs PS4 Pro Frame-Rate Tests - Can Consoles Run Cyberpunk?

Digital Foundry writes, "At last, the question can be answered: can consoles like PS4 or even PS4 Pro run CDPR's latest RPG epic? At least, well enough? Ahead of more coverage on Xbox One machines, we pick apart the opening 3 hours to figure out how image quality is handled, and whether frame-rates hold up well enough to enjoy it - with some surprising results."

good lord, so what if the new consoles had not yet been released? would cdpr still have released these muddy looking versions for last gen? ps4 and xb1 look like afterthought versions

mechethegoat1602d ago

it would've had to have been delayed again

Eonjay1602d ago

PS4 is straight up struggling. The Pro is obviously much better. I am fascinated to see how the Xbox One compares. Of the eight gen I expect Xbox One to be worst and Xbox One X to run the best. Running in BC mode, I expect the PS5 to have better performance because the multiplier is higher going from Pro to PS5. Then, once the next gen patches are live I expect the performance to be the same generally.

Jin_Sakai1602d ago

Cyberpunk 2077 should've been next gen only. It’s too ambitious for old consoles.

Vegamyster1602d ago

That's rough... they either should have stripped back visuals more so it could at least maintain 30 fps or dumped the last gen versions, reminds me trying to play Far Cry 3 on the 360.

jjb19811602d ago

The screen tearing was pretty bad.

Shikoku1602d ago

Cyberpunk should of been kept a next gen only title, it really doesn't run well on OG PS4, Ps4 slim or Ps4 Pro

RazzerRedux1602d ago (Edited 1602d ago )

This game was built for PC first and foremost. Not the first time consoles haven't been able to keep with the tech. I'm really not sure what people expect here. This game has a ton of systems going on that go beyond just some advanced textures. It is obvious when you are playing the game. The game I'm playing on a PC with a 2080 Super simply isn't going to look remotely the same on seven year old tech.

Vegamyster1602d ago

I agree but more concessions should have been made to smooth the performance out, being butt ugly would have been better than the stuttering 15-20 fps mess in certain sections they showed.

RazzerRedux1602d ago

I agree. They need to get the game to a stable 30fps.

ClayRules20121602d ago

Yeah, I agree.

I was never over the moon hyped for this game and never expected it to be the 2nd coming of video games, but I certainly didn’t expect it to be the finished...well, unfinished and severely underperforming game it is for so many on PS4/Xbox One. Just consoles in general.

Btw, that secret man cave I told you about (that my fiancé still isn’t aware of) is available if you want to stay for the next week, bring over your PC and I’ll play Cyberpunk on my PS5, without the Next Gen upgrade...😂😂&# 128557;😭😭

RazzerRedux1602d ago (Edited 1602d ago )

Ha! I haven't been able to buy the damn PS5 enough for the wife to kick me out yet.

But.....keep that man cave prepped and waiting. I could be knocking on your door any day now, buddy.

CaptainHenry9161602d ago (Edited 1602d ago )

I'm grateful to have the PC version for this game. I'm sure the PS5 version will look great after the patch

I really want to know what's going on with docked vrr cause cyberpunk at 40 fps docked seems to be a choice driven by vrr

DLSS should help the Nintendo Switch 2 with longevity

Profchaos8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

Based on so e of the impossible ports we saw on switch 1 I'm not worried about the hardwares longevity.

Next gen systems ps6 and next box might slow down switch 2 development but given leaks showing PlayStation releasing a new portable system around the same time as ps6 that can play ps5 games says that next gen cross gen seems to be poised to last the entire generation

And right now I'd say there isn't much that couldn't be scaled down to run on switch 2

Goodguy019d ago

Nvidia or Nintendo need to come out and detail how dlss will work on switch 2. Like is it dlss4? Or just completely customized for the switch.

Tacoboto9d ago

I'm sure they've detailed exactly that in documentation provided to developers.

b00mFargl39d ago

It will probably be behind a $20 demo that we have to download. 😂

PRIMORDUS9d ago

I like to know as well, which version of DLSS? 2, 3, 3.5 or 4? I mean it's not that hard for Nintendo to say which version games will use.

Profchaos8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

Given the specs of the system and the time the hardware was produced if I had a stab in the dark I'd say a heavily customised dlss3

Neonridr9d ago

it's GPU is based around ampere technology, which is 3 series cards tech. So some features from DLSS4 can be ported down to older cards, just not some 5 series exclusive features like multi-frame gen.

40fps docked is a interesting choice as it's in the vrr range but we don't have confirmation of vrr docked
