There's not much speed difference between the 3080 and 3090, if 3080Ti going to bring anything noticeable it will be more vram and a little more speed at best. I'm not sure what to think of the whole 10GB being enough thing, cutting it close but should be fine for the majority of games at least until next gen Hopper in 2 years, though some have started calling DF Nvidia shills after this video.

Even if 10GB isn't enough for a handful of games at 1440p and 4k between now and next gen cards, you can always lower the texture settings a notch which should then be fine tbh.

The 3080 vs 3080 Ti really boils down to a simple question IMO.

Do you plan on keeping your GPU for the next several years, or do you plan on upgrading to the 5nm GPUs scheduled to launch late 2021 - summer 2022?

If you plan on sticking with your GPU the 3080 Ti is the way to go having more VRAM will keep that GPU future proof, whereas, the 10GB 3080 will start to see issues in a few games as it's bandwidth is enough to help it out, but games are already using 12GB now, so in a few years from now it's going to be pressed hard. But if you upgrade every generation, then that doesn't really matter, as getting the 3080 will save you likely $150 - $300 off a reference 3080 Ti, and you can get a 7nm / 5nm 4080 in a year or so that will be another leap in performance, reduced TDP, and more VRAM.

Not a good comparison video. They tested with a I9 so it's using pci-e 3.0. The 6800XT works better in an AMD pcie-4.0 system. For 1440P the AMD card pulls ahead and closer to 3090, especially when overclocked to 2.6GhZ.

I've seen some pop up through discord notifications, but they usually go very quickly, seen 2 different 3080 cards pop up over the last few days listed at Amazon which were actually decently priced, most are overpriced though. Only way of getting one any time soon is either joining a queue (wouldn't recommend it) or waiting on a stock alert and being quick enough. Otherwise it's probably at least 2-3+ months before decent availability.

I managed to order a PS5 easier than a 3080 and on release day to boot, the 3080 i ordered on release day i am still waiting in a damn queue for. Thing is i ordered it at £650 and the TUF cards are not going back to that early offering price now.

lol i was only saying it's humble when compared to the latest and greatest. your 1060 is probably fine for the resolution you play at. I play at 2k 60fps usually. And yeah gpu's are going for crazy prices since everyone is indoors. I'm glad I got mine in april before the price hikes came.

I love AMD & Nvidia, but currently using a strictly gsync panel, I have no regrets, but if it was a freesync panel I would have bought a 6800 or a 6800XT to replace my 2070 Super. I'm still hoping nvidia brings back the 3070 super or ti that they cancelled. Or maybe a 3080 if I can find one haha probably not :P It's for 1080p but I'm looking for crazy high FPS. But think about this, 3080/1080p might seem like overkill now, but when games coming next year and in the future that really push ray tracing and other effects the GPU will be taxed so much more. I call that future proof :D Also looking to upgrade my 3700x to a 5900x come Jan for my x470 board \o/

I've never played games above 60fps so when I got my pc I got a 2070 super and 2k 75hz monitor. I don't plan on boosting to 120 or higher anything. Because right now I'm content but if i started gaming at higher fps i'd always be having to buy cutting edge graphics cards or something which seems like a real pain. I hope you enjoy your high fps though.

I was locked at 60hz LCD to, back in 2014. Took my 1st step in buying a 144hz gsync panel when they were pretty new. It was a night/day difference. You have a 2070 Super like me that card can push in Doom Eternal for exmaple over 200+ fps with dips in the 170s. But you have a 2k 1440p panel @ 75hz which is awesome that's a good balance. ^_^

I’m in exactly the same boat, chasing a 144hrtz 1080 ultra system. 2080ti with 3950x doesn’t cut it that’s for sure. Waiting to see the 6900xt and possibly 3080ti before deciding whether either one tops the 3090 and then finally getting a 5950x to finish it all off. Good times.

Ah, I bought that Alienware 240hz gsync 1080p panel exactly on Xmas day last yr was a good deal :D But yeah, high fps with 1080p is so awesome. The 6900XT review should be here on Dec. 8th I think. But a 2080ti + 3950x is still a damn good pair. Right now, it's so hard if not impossible to buy a 5000 series cpu best we can do is to wait until maybe Jan. for a good deal.

If AMD isn't in stock or is too expensive, go for Nvidia. I wanted a 6800, but they were all too expensive and unavailable, so I jumped at the chance to get my hands on a 3070 when one became available to me. I didn't do it for the ray tracing or the DLSS, I just wanted an upgrade now. If AMD had been in stock and priced at or near MSRP, I would have probably picked AMD.
