“Good People, The Best”: The Importance of Sadie and Abigail in Red Dead Redemption 2

The moment I fell in love with Red Dead Redemption 2 was the first moment it became clear that Sadie was going to take a bigger role in the story. I found it hard to get on board initially; as a male-centric game about people that seemed perfectly okay with their violent, outlaw lives, I wasn’t sure what it had to offer me. However, as the women became more and more prominent, I became more eager to play.

Sadie? You mean the sadistic murderer? Yeah she was pretty cool, a bit over the top though as far as characters go. She can chill by herself in a bar, stab a knife into a man's hand and nail it to the bar and nothing happens to her because she's so tough. I mean you don't want to mess what that badass lady right?

She's the most unrealistic character in the entire game. She's also the most foolhardy and stupid of the bunch. Can't keep her rage to herself at a moment when people need to be calm in order to accomplish their goals. Puts people's live at risk multiple times because she rushes in like a crazed moron. Her character was ridiculously stupid.

She was only that way towards the o'driscoll gang. Because, SHOCKER..they murdered her husband right in front of her. And, presumably sexually assaulted her before Dutch's gang showed up. TOTALLY "unrealistic" for someone to act out violently who wen't through those horrors towards the very people who did so(in the wild west of all places). Believe it or not, she wasn't the most off leash character. I guess you completely forgot about cold-blooded Micah? Who would kill ANYONE who got in his path of greed. And, you want to talk about "stupid" and "unrealistic". She had perfectly written out motives for her behavior towards the o'driscolls and she DID show restraint durring some moments she crossed paths with them. Get out of here with your bull.

Any woman who acted the way she did back then would have gotten herself murdered. She seems to be able to beat up all these men. She can take on 10 o'driscols and ride away totally safe. She was a horrible and an unrealistic character for the times. Bounty hunter? Don't make me laugh. She was a joke. She was written in to fill the quota of 'strong female character'. Abigail is 10 times the woman she is.

What part of the game is realistic? Cowboys can slowdown time and get thrown from a horse at full speed and walk away.

"ragey little fluff ball" says the guy with the first comment literally going on a ragey sexist rant that sadie wasn't a borring/nagging abigail that couldnt take care of herself. Insecure much? You keep talking about "realistic". So sadie killing 10 odriscoll and surving is unrealistic, but any of the other members(who did countless times) doing so would be realistic..because they're men? lmao. Not sexist at all. Sadie talks plenty times throughout the game about her past and why she knows her way around a gun. She even once mentioned how she was raised and it wasn't to be this "average woman" back than that you seem to have a history degree about. I guess you would know that every woman in the wild west were raised to be cookie cutter clones eh? The other male members got themselves out of MORE crazy gunfights alone and otherwise. But, somehow sadie is the most "unrealistic" because she's a woman? lmao. ok sexist. I guess going forward we have to start creating female characters as close to the average woman from that time period as possible. So essentially more abigails..how exciting

Rockstar famously does not make realistic games. Their games are exagerated satires of stereotypes. Rdr 2 might be the most restrained of their titles yet. However I don't see how realism is a counter to the point being made.

My gripe with this article would be more towards the contradiction made in regards to abigail. First critizising the idea that the only way we see a character as strong is in so called masculine ways, i. E. Sadie. But then complaining that abigail does not get to show of her heroism through violence. Why can't abigail show her heroism through other ways?
