As much fan love as it has got, it still doesn't change the fact that winners are chosen by critics. The same critics that have given it 83 where all the other nominees are over/near 90.

13 sentinels deserves narrative. George Kamitani spins so many plates that not only don’t drop, but aren’t even plates by the end of it. There is no spoon!

I’d replace TLOU2’s art direction with 13 sentinels’ hand drawn sci-fi, or Dreams’ hybrid buffet.

I was actually pleasantly surprised that they nominated it.
But seeing the game as a best indie game nominated pretty much spell it that it won't win GOTY but will win the indie game category.

And on the running a little long, but I also was exhausted mentally and physically (as I was with the first game) although nowhere near like I was with the first, because this sequel was 10x more brutal oh gosh was it. So glad we got our moneys worth and enjoyed the vision and total package on offer.

The narrative is subjective and divisive, but what many don't understand is that this is EXACTLY what the writers intended. Dragon Age Inquisition didn't deserve it in 2014 and Overwatch didn't deserve it in 2016 and still in 2020, despite them winning, I still don't agree with it so.

LOL. Cyberpunk isn’t even out yet, and no reviews have gone out. I certainly hope it meets your expectations (as well as many others) who since the beginning have believed for some reason that it’ll be this second coming of video games, which I personally don’t see. I don’t believe it’ll be a bad game, by any means. I am excited for it. Loved TW3 and trust CDPR to do a great game. However, the expectations of some of you fans seem to have hype levels that are stratospheric and beyond, it’s shocking and scary kinda lol.

Here’s hoping it genuinely delivers something fantastic overall tho!

We won't get non-biased reviews until 2 to 3 weeks after the game because so many of these media members have bought into the hype who will review the game so expect a lot of 10's than slowly as people start to play and have an actual conversation the game may not meet the awarded scores

Tsushima was my personal game of the year also but I see the Last of Us 2 cleaning house. And thats okay, the game was great and it was a showcase in absolutely all the categories it was nominated in. Probably deserves the win anyway.

There's been several quality games in 2020 but Ill be honest that I'm a bit tired of the usual tropes and politics of the game award ceremony.
Like honestly every year is the same with titles filling the usual spots.
- We have the reserved Nintendo slot game because Nintendo must have a game on the list.
- The indy game that will win the indy category and is allowed to have a 5 min glory with the big boys but have 0 chance of winning the GOTY.
- The Ubisoft/Bethesda game that is just nominated for the sake of having them in the list but have 0.000000000% chance of winning despite how they perfected their respective genre.
- The most anticipated game from the start of the year.
- The remaster/remake of the year
- And the safe bet (a game with 0 controversy around it that surprised ppl this year or was less anticipated)

Now of course, games around sports (despite now having open world/ RPG story and everything like a single player game) are not allowed on this list.
Games made for handheld and VR are also exclude from this list.
Games from Blacksheep publishers (publisher that we love to hate) are also exclude from list unless making an exclusive game for Sony or Nintendo
(Sega, THQ, EA, Activision, Take 2 and Microsoft)

As for the winner it's easy to find out
If the most anticipated game is the same as the Nintendo game then it's the Nintendo game.
If the most anticipated game is a safe bet (no controversy) then it's the most anticipated game
If not it's the safe bet.

So 99.999999% that you're winner this year will be Ghost of Tsushima (It's a great game).

Regardless if you liked it or not. It was extremely divisive and they attacked the fans that didnt like the direction. Dont think anyone who attacks their fanbase should win GOTY. They defintely should take many other cateogries though. Especially the best performances and accessibility. Art direction as well.

TLOU II should not be on that list, the first game was brilliant story telling and attention to detail with really nice little touches, 1 that's really stood out for me was right at the beginning when Joel's daughter wakes and looks for him, stumbling because she was still tired.
TLOU II was one of the worst games I've played, bad story, boring and really drawn out with to many pointless flash backs.
I've put that one in the same pile as other bad games, the trash.
