PS Plus is the only way to back up PS5 save games, no USB save exports

If you buy a PlayStation 5, you'll want to also get PS Plus. It's the only way to safely back up your next-gen game save files.

Just confirmed it on the PS site.

Click -> Types of Storage and Savable Data
https://www.playstation.com...

This is beyond stupid. Such a simple feature to have. Why leave it out?

darthv721633d ago

I don't have + and I prob wont but they should let you have free cloud saves like MS (now) does. I guess I will be using a flash drive to backup my game saves.

UnSelf1633d ago

It’s the year 2020. Internet, subs and consoles all go hand in hand. You shouldn’t be investing in brand new, cutting edge game machines if you can’t afford or have a problem with their contiguous subscriptions.

Clearly you have bigger problems to worry about in life if 10 dollars a month is a big deal for you.

Lemme guess, you also want to make calls on an iPhone 12 without a cellular plan.

Get with the times or dust off your ps2

RazzerRedux1633d ago (Edited 1633d ago )

Bullshit. I shouldn't have to pay for a subscription to back up my game saves.

"Lemme guess, you also want to make calls on an iPhone 12 without a cellular plan."

That is an idiotic comparison. Just stop.

"Lemme guess, you also want to make calls on an iPhone 12 without a cellular plan."

you can though...wifi calling. But i get your point.

SegaGamer1633d ago

I game on a pc and don't have to put up with any of that crap. Free online gameplay and I can backup all of my saves to a usb pen drive and play any game you can throw at it.......all without a subscription. Are you going say my pc isn't a cutting edge gaming machine?

CaptainHenry9161633d ago (Edited 1633d ago )

Wow Sony is making you join PS+ to save PS5 save games 🤔🤔

StoneyYoshi1633d ago (Edited 1633d ago )

No... It's Just cloud save back ups that require PS+. Game saves are on the system like normal so please don't try spinning this into something its not. Unless you need to move your saves to another PS5 then this shouldn't be a concern IMO. And if you have a second PS5 then why aren't you paying for PS+ but you can manage to afford 2 PS5's

Another solution to this concern is that you can probably move the saves to your expansion SSD (once they are available) and if you did have a system fail on you, you can just put the expansion SSD into the replacement and all the saves are still safe.

aconnellan1633d ago

@Stoney

So if your console bricks, that’s it? Can’t redeem progress on a new console unless you have PS+?

RazzerRedux1633d ago (Edited 1633d ago )

@StoneyYoshi

I don't subscribe to PS Plus as I game primarily on PC. So what am I supposed to do if/when PS5 Pro comes out? Oh well.....sucks but your old game saves are stuck on your old console because you don't pay Sony's subscription? To hell with that.

"Another solution to this concern is that you can probably move the saves to your expansion SSD"

Or just enable saves to USB like you could on PS4. There is no need to overthink this. This problem already has a solution that has been in place for years.

And to be frank, it is bullshit to put cloud saves behind a paywall at all. Somehow Steam and Microsoft manage to allow this feature, but Sony is being stubborn. They need to change this entirely.

MrNinosan1633d ago

@RazzerRedux

In your scenario you can actually move the save files from one PS5 to another PS5 over WiFi or Ethernet, so no worries there.

RazzerRedux1632d ago

@MrNinosan

What if I'm trading it in?

Still wild that you need to pay for cloud saves

meatnormous1633d ago

Some people like to take their saves and use a save modifier to give them things in games. Dark Souls 3 players were using programs to give them builds without grinding for them. The highwall of lothric is full of twinks.

Forcing PS+ (if you want back ups) is lame.

deadfrag1633d ago (Edited 1633d ago )

This is very lame... Sony wants to force people to pay for PS+.. the greed! On the other hand Microsoft offers free storage in the cloud!

darthv721633d ago

MS didnt before. In fact if you have a 360, you cant transfer your save to the cloud (to play on xbo) unless you have an active Gold membership. Oddly though, on the XBO you can be a silver member and have your saves backed up to the cloud... go figure.

aconnellan1633d ago

You’re not wrong, but I feel like that’s the point - we’re dealing with a 360/PS3-era issue here on the PS5

Bladesfist1633d ago

Valve also offer free storage for game saves with Steam.

kryteris1633d ago

same with steam or any modern gaming platform. this is unacceptable.

P_Bomb1633d ago (Edited 1633d ago )

Oh, no. That’s not cool. I use a flash drive to backup and/or move my kids’ saves from one PS4 to another. I’ll add this to my firmware wishlist, beside wishlist.

StoneyYoshi1633d ago

Wishlist's exist on the PS5 store. Just not on the phone app for some odd reason.

P_Bomb1633d ago

Oh they are on the PS5 store? Awesome, thx for the update! I don’t have a 5 yet. Been living vicariously through my phone, lol.

FinalFantasyFanatic1632d ago

But the PS wishlist sucks, you can only add a 100 games and that's it (unless it's different for the PS5? I don't own one yet so I don't know).

MrNinosan1633d ago

If you have 2 PS5’s, you can still copy/move rhe save files over WiFi/Ethernet.

FinalFantasyFanatic1632d ago

I didn't know you could do this, I thought the PS4 phased out moving save files to USB sticks.

Nyxus1633d ago

That sucks, they need to fix this with an update.
