COD: Black Ops Cold War Makes Me Want To Play Every Shooter On The PS5

PS5's DualSense controller is a massive gamechanger for first-person shooters.

Sony hit the lottery by focusing on other improvements too on top of the GPU and CPU upgrades

I've seen videos of people playing shooters with the Dualsense and they literally have to pause the game to say how great it is

PS5 is the best place to play

SullysCigar1622d ago (Edited 1622d ago )

It makes a massive difference. Like you can't understand unless you try it. Every gun feels different and you can feel the bullets leave the gun via feedback through the triggers, so the idea of shooting a weapon is heightened.

I hope they can implement this in a revised AIM controller for PSVR2, because that would just be incredible along with the 3D sound and being IN the game!

throne1622d ago

wooohh......I'm trying to imagine that 😱

Hellcat20201622d ago

It's gets rather annoying after a while especially on Cold War

swifty11622d ago

Holy shit great explanation, shit I might get Cold War just to feel this! Ps5 should arrive Monday!!!

Muzikguy1622d ago

The lack of information pertaining to VR has me slightly concerned. They have to be working on something for the PS5 don't they? Maybe they're just being tight lipped because of the competition (Oculus)

bouzebbal1622d ago

Well I can see they didn't change the legendary name dualshock to Dualsense for no reason.. It's about sensing this time around.. Sony just changed dimension

tontontam01622d ago (Edited 1622d ago )

"It's gets rather annoying after a while especially on Cold War"

oh there you go, the comment I'm expecting from a tired office worker who wants to shit on features other people enjoy.

this is the typical comment of people who wants to shit on "gimmick??, Vr games".

Tired Office worker: "after a long day of work........ blabla I just want to sit back...... and play a game with no gimmicks."

The good news is you can turn it off, actually you can even turn the sound off you can also get tired of that.

1622d ago
SullysCigar1622d ago

^@Muzikguy, despite your disagrees, I kind of agree. I felt like that for a bit, but I think you're spot on and it's all about timing. They were very clear in the past that they felt it was too much to launch a next gen console and headset too close together and they won't want to distract people from the hype of the PS5 launch. I'd bet PSVR2 is closer than we think!

In the meantime, they're patching PSVR games to use the power of the PS5! Some just have dynamic resolution, which makes a HUGE difference (like, bigger than from OG PS4 to Pro for VR).

So far this includes games like Star Wars Squadrons, Blood & Truth, Astro Bot, Firewall, etc. They look far crisper, more detailed textures, load in less than half the time and all with minimum effort from the devs, so you have to assume they'll do the same for the rest of the top games (out and yet to come) to tide us over until PSVR2.

Babadook71622d ago

I hope there is an update for Apex Legends that has new adaptive trigger support. Then everyone can try the difference it makes to shooters for free. I love the Dual Sense for other PS5 games.

Nurket1622d ago

I can understand the statement about it getting annoying in the long run. I dont expect todays Young gamers to understand this, come with some reviews in 6months time. Not every innovation is a all perfect good one. Not saying it is bad, just dont be so critical towards people that dont share the same exitement. If u like it, good for you. If u dont like it, thats ok to. For me it can disturb the aim focus and focus on all the small details u need to pay attention to when playing competetive shooter for example.

Zeref1622d ago (Edited 1622d ago )

Lol it's not that big of a deal.

Xbox has had impulse Triggers that achieve pretty much the same effect since 2013 😂

The only reason the media and fanboys are focusing on the controller is because they know they lost the power narrative and the exclusive narrative 🤷🏾‍♂️

SyntheticForm1622d ago

Play Astrobot and tell me they're not a big deal.

When given attention, that feedback is pretty damn cool.

Ghostbob1622d ago

It really is a big deal because the Xbox impulse triggers don't even come close to the dual sense and the power gap is so so ever small and ps5 is already beating Xbox in third party games as both consoles are custom rdna 2 but ps5 has a more custom feature set not standard like the Xbox as that needs to be the same as pc rdna2 & dx12 api.

1622d ago
spdarksky1622d ago

This is actually a good thing that developers now take notice. Since 2013 XB Impulse Trigger has been put as a side note because the lack of this feature on PS4 in addition to lack of hype. People forgets that XB has this trigger rumble many years ago and developers also don't mind implementing it other than first party and a few 3rd party games like GTA5 and Watch Dogs. Just like PS5, XB should get the attention it deserves.

Now we see as this more and more becoming a standard, FINALLY Impulse Trigger can be implemented on all games and Cold War is a start. I don't really like (pull) haptic triggers as I just want my trigger to be easy to press, but I like trigger rumble (or kickback) as it adds to the feel of the game. Anyway it's just my preferences, others can have their own.

StormSnooper1622d ago

Very different from xbox’s Rumble triggers. This is completely on a whole new level.

jznrpg1622d ago

Pretty much the same ? lol 😂

Mr_Luke1622d ago

No, just... no.
This just shows you have no idea about how a DualSense works or feels.
But why i even answer, it could be the best controller ever made that you would say it's not anyway, unless it's from MS...

Deathdeliverer1622d ago

Zeref..... if everyone on the internet is saying it’s completely unlike anything else how can you STILL make an assumption like that with no hands on time. Obviously there must be more to it. I guess it’s like PSVR, no matter how much you try to explain it people cannot wrap their heads around it. Once they try it and their minds are blown you’re like welcome to a few years ago.

The_Sage1622d ago (Edited 1622d ago )

You have evidently done zero research, Zeref. The Dual
Sense is nothing like the Xbox controller. Look into what is actually going on with the DualSence so you don't continue to make yourself look stupid. Your ignorance is obvious to everyone.

neutralgamer19921622d ago

Zeref

Exclusive narrative really? Where are xbox exclusives? I hate fanboy comments but make sense simply acquiring new studios don't equal to quality exclusives

lifeisgamesok1622d ago

The power narrative doesn't mean much when the games look the same

Godmars2901622d ago

As if the Series X has anything that proves its power advantage.

IamFrasierCrane1622d ago

Lol. You continue to be the most uninformed user on n4g.

jjb19811622d ago

You have no idea until you give Astrobot a chance. I was blown away by how you can FEEL the different terrain you're on. The ice skating is amazing. I was skeptical of the hype but I am a believer that the DualSense is a game changer.

jukins1622d ago

Lol not even close. Not at all. The controller is really that revolutionary. It immerses you so much more. That and 3d audio are just really amazing. I can wait until the next iteration of and accompanied controllers

tontontam01622d ago

"Xbox has had impulse Triggers that achieve pretty much the same effect since 2013"

lol the impulse triggers is the half assed "gimmick" version of this adaptive trigger.

Driving? Shooting? Hitting? you'd feel similar vibrations. It is as if they impulsively put this feature to add "innovation" to their controller.

Sunny_D1622d ago (Edited 1622d ago )

Bro what crack are you smoking? You talking about the system that launched with no exclusives? The system where the PS5 is performing better in all the multiplatform games? The controller that copied the share button from the PS4? That one? Hahah, rumble triggers are not the same. There’s also more games that have taken advantage of the dual sense than the Xbox rumble triggers controller in all 7 years lmao.

thejigisup1622d ago

Impulse triggers are nothing like the haptic feedback in the dualsense. There is no other controller experience like this available anywhere. Even thinking impulse triggers can be in the same realm of the dualsense shows that you haven't played anything on the ps5. The controller is that amazing that everyone thats using it has to praise it. But wait theres more. The power narrative is just that, a narrative. I care more about the games and the experience than a difference of power. Theres enough evidence and proof that the ps5 out performs the series x in a number of games and even if it didn't its the start of a new generation and we haven't seen the full potential of either console so stop saying somome lost or won because once again its negligible this early on. And exclusives... inguess time will tell, the system haven't been out for more than a week yet and ill just boot up my pc for whatever ms studios game i want to play thats not on ps5 bc ill play my 3rd party games there simply bc the controller is great.

Hamzilla771622d ago

Try harder.... iv seen better troll jobs....
you clearly have not tried this Dual Sense stuff if you post that... lame-O

1622d ago
Ozzy24071622d ago (Edited 1622d ago )

@Zeref (Xbox has had impulse Triggers that achieve pretty much the same effect since 2013)
You clearly have no idea on how the Dualsense works and feels

northpaws1622d ago

@Zeref

Lost power narrative and exclusive narrative? PS5 won both and moving on to gameplay... stop being delusional, are you also one of the people that believe covid is fake?

Ausbo1622d ago (Edited 1622d ago )

Just got my hands on the Dualsense today, and it’s nothing like the impulse triggers. Nothing like it

russo1211622d ago

In every thread a clown is needed. Great job.

SmokinAces1622d ago

"pretty much", is just another way of saying not at all the same. The reason the media and Playstation gamers are praising the controller is becasue its amazing, the reason fanboys are downplaying it is becasue they think there's a power advantage that somehow diminishes it.

cell9891622d ago

You have no idea, and you won’t know what you’re missing out till you try it

secrettalkshowhost1622d ago

Dude the Xbox One impulse triggers just vibrate. The dualsense triggers change their tension; the amount of force required to pull them. Absolutely not the same effect, duuuuhhhh. Get with the program here guy, its not hard to read words.

xxShadow-Shockxx1622d ago

😂 Literally no where near the same, this controller is revolutionary

Yep, and also gyro aiming with those triggers...awesome

purple1011622d ago (Edited 1622d ago )

Gyro aiming? Does dual sense have six axis feature as.well?

I'ma google this pronto. Does.dualsense have a gyroscope built into it - just chcked..

"Motion sensor. Bring intuitive motion control to supported games with the built-in accelerometer and gyroscope"

So that's:

touchpad.
Gyro
Triggers
Haptic
Mic
Speaker
Improved headphone jack
USB c .

I really like what Sony is bringing to the table this gen. They didn't just focus on bc or raw power. With that being said too, they're not an underpowered console either. I can't wait to get a PS5. Looking like 2021

The DualSense is a game changer. It makes PS5 the go to console for 3rd party games. Put a smile on my face first time playing Astro’s Playroom. Amazing controller!

darthv721622d ago

It feels good but i much prefer offset sticks. So for me... ps5 will be strictly for sony exclusives as I feel they will be the ones to really take advantage of the features.

Everything else I will play on series x due to offset sticks. It really is that simple.

Atticus_finch1622d ago

Damn. What happened to your fingers, if you mind me asking. We should start a go fund me to have your fingers corrected. Every one should be able to have symmetrical fingers.

purple1011622d ago

There's going to be so many good sony games shortly droping...you're not going to have any time to play the Xbox.

Good for people that can afford both consoles I suppose. I'm going to save up for ps5 personally

crazyCoconuts1622d ago

I was laughing like a kid playing Astro, especially during the lunar lander part.

Mrxboxman1622d ago

You guys are hilarious. If it's xbox, it's phantom advantages or gimmick. When ps5... GAME CHANGING.

Destiny10801623d ago (Edited 1623d ago )

"when I fire an MP5, the DualSense vibrates to the fire rate's specific rhythm, and when you swap to a burst fire weapon, that rhythm changes"

"The triggers now have a resistance that changes based on the weapon. Pistols can be fired easily, while a single shot rifle requires more effort to fire. It makes every shot feel more impactful"

"I switched over to the PS4 version of the game, and it's so hard to go back"

Hellcat20201622d ago

It's ok in the campaign but I don't like it in multiplayer
I have to turn it off because I feel too slow on the trigger while playing online
When I turn it off it made a huge difference

But at the moment I will wait to continue playing my ps5 because it's froze on me twice today and I don't want to keep doing hard reset on my new console.
Hopefully a patch comes next week

Chriswheeler221622d ago

I havent tried them yet but id imagine for competitive multiplayer they won't be used much.

Can't wait to try them though.

yeahokwhatever1622d ago

Can you feel the trigger break point? because that would actually be pretty awesome.

Jin_Sakai1622d ago

“Can you feel the trigger break point? because that would actually be pretty awesome.“

Pretty much. It’s awesome! I disable it for competitive MP such as Cold War but it’s amazing for SP!

yeahokwhatever1622d ago

Just got done playing. Holy crap. this controller changes everything.

BQ321622d ago (Edited 1622d ago )

@hellcat, the disagrees are stupid on this. Yes the haptic innovations are probably amazing and give substantially more immersion to the games, but the problem with playing shooters on the dual sense is that it is not set up for competition. As a competitive gamer there is no way I would replace playing on something like the elite with back peddles so I never have to remove my thumbs from the sticks and trigger stops so I have to depress the triggers less for the gun to fully fire. It is way more important for me to be able to shoot my enemy faster and be more elusive than it is to feel the gun firing as cool as that does seem. Maybe Sony will eventually come out with there own pro controller that integrates all the new tech with these competitive advantages as well. Here is to hoping. I am amped to feel spiderman swinging around the city though.

HICK1622d ago (Edited 1622d ago )

Triggers being harder to pull for a rifle vs pistol makes no sense and shows that developers haven't even shot a gun before. I love DualSense and PS5 but this is not realistic. In fact, my precision rifle takes much less effort to fire than any of my pistols.

AspiringProGenji1622d ago

You are wrong. Developers do try real guns to get the feel and the sounds too. Also it doesn’t need to be super realistic. Just any feedback that improves immersion would do.

HICK1622d ago

Do you have a source that says they shoot guns and get sounds from them?

yeahokwhatever1622d ago (Edited 1622d ago )

imagining shooting from halfcocked, cocked, or double action and the controller actually changing the way the trigger feels sounds in-freaking-credible though. and yeah, precision rifles are usually lighter pulls than pistols for sure, in fact, that's where some of the precision comes from. :-)

HICK1622d ago

@yeahokwhatever. Yes I agree 100% that it would be amazing with the different actions like you mentioned. And yes you are right about the trigger adding precision but you don't need me to tell you that obviously haha. I guess I just wish if they are going to implement an awesome feature like this that they do it right and have a rifle be a light pull ya know? Either way, it's awesome and I'm excited so many devs are taking advantage of this. I thought it was just a gimmick, right Xbox people? ;)

yeahokwhatever1622d ago

@HICK
I actually just played and the sniper rifle has a lighter trigger and a noticeable breakpoint which is really nice. this controller is insane. if you keep your finger on the trigger with it at that point, you can actually improve you're reflex time.

1622d ago
HICK1622d ago

@yeahokwhatever that's awesome! Can't wait to play COD with it. I guess when you go to ADS it is harder with heavier guns? MBG mentioned it during his podcast today. Maybe that's what some people meant buy heavier guns have a harder pull. Not to pull the trigger but to ADS. interesting

I am a bit disappointed that Valhalla does not take advantage of these functions. I would have hoped that all games for the PS5 would come with some level of haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, but it seems that developers must add these functions. This perhaps could mean that some big games do not take full use of this, but I hope I am wrong.

Hellcat20201622d ago

I love it while playing Sackboy
It's awesome
And for Demons Souls

SullysCigar1622d ago

Microsoft have the marketing rights to Valhalla and there's no way they would want such a distinction to swing people that own both consoles towards choosing PS5 version.

I'd put money on a patch coming in the near future. Other devs have suggested it's very quick and easy (so presumably also cheap) to implement and all devs want you to enjoy their games to its fullest potential.

mudakoshaka1622d ago

That sounds pretty reasonable actually. I do hope that a patch is coming, since this function seems so cool. And maybe that developers start supporting these functions early on if the PS5 does get a strong lead over XS1.

JEECE1622d ago

After being skeptical about how much of a difference it could make, I have to admit that it is really cool. I do think a lot of people will turn the triggers off for multiplayer shooters though.

StormSnooper1622d ago

Possibly, but doesn’t take away from how awesome they are

JEECE1622d ago

Not at all. Perfect for immersion. Definitely the biggest unexpected difference.

AspiringProGenji1622d ago

I won’t turn it off after I get used to it. I could be wrong but We’ll see

Babadook71622d ago (Edited 1622d ago )

“I do think a lot of people will turn the triggers off for multiplayer shooters...“

I suspect you are right. Some will turn it off because winning is more important than immersion. Having the choice is awesome though. And I suspect companies will reduce the strain of repetitive inputs for such competitive games, or better yet give you a slider that reduces it to your preference

Hehe that must be a hard pill to swallow.

neutralgamer199242d ago

I have been a PS fan since day one and last year switched to PC and to me Xbox series controller just feels better (no doubt features wise dual sense has more to offer but the feel in hand xbox feels more natural)

RupeeHoarder42d ago

The feel between the two is negligible at best. One thing I can absolutely say is not negligible is the sound difference. The Series controller is a loud, clicky, cheap sounding mess.

DodoDojo42d ago

I prefer the Xbox controller too. I think there was a Steam survey that showed 60% of the controllers used were Xbox controllers.

VenomUK42d ago (Edited 42d ago )

Just wait until Microsoft starts selling Xbox controllers for PS5. I joke, I joke, that’s one red line Microsoft will never cross…

Promise?

Will it?

MUMMY.

darthv7242d ago

DS has the better actuators but the XB feels better to hold. It is clicky... but that audible feedback is nice to hear. Then again i also like the classic clicky keyboards of yore.

Si-Fly42d ago

Hopefully Sony will get the ergonomics right one day, they’ve come a long way since the PS1 but Xbox has always had comfier controllers.

KyRo42d ago

I have both and it blows my head when people say the Xbox controller is better. The controller sounds cheap and hollow when moving the analogue sticks. The vibration feedback is pretty naff and the LB/RB buttons are like digital mouse buttons.

I've not used the Elite controller myself but the standard one just doesn't compare with the Duel Sense.

Rockstar42d ago

@ RupeeHoarder

I absolutely agree. The Xbox controller is indeed a loud, clicky cheap feeling controller. I prefer my dual sense and 8bitdo Ultimate controllers. But in my opinion all of these controllers are very comfortable

neutralgamer199242d ago

Guys I just shared my opinion on what felt better in my hands. Dual sense has more features like I said and I agree compared to Xbox controller DS feels premium. I wish Sony would give the option between having a normal dual sense and one layed out like Xbox controller and I wish Xbox would do the same. Having more options is better for us all

Controllers are such a subjective matter. What feels good in my hands might not in another gamers hands

MASTER_RAIDEN42d ago (Edited 42d ago )

I honestly can’t believe people still argue about this. The Xbox controller is significantly more ergonomic/comfortable than anything PlayStation has ever put out. Do you guys like those weirdly stiff, gross feeling dualsense triggers? How about that giant useless touchpad in between the and share buttons (2 of the worst buttons I’ve ever used on a controller). The triggers on the dualsense bottom out at an inward angle for crying out loud. The PS button feels weird and should probably just be a circle shape with the ps logo like it was on ps3. I love PlayStation and haven’t owned anything Xbox since the 360, but let’s just be honest. Xbox one controllers onward NAIL the controller feel. PlayStation controllers just have really awkward design decisions.

Goodguy0142d ago (Edited 42d ago )

Preference

babadivad42d ago

Exactly. Xbox has the better controller.

rocky04758642d ago

Really? I really think the people that say this MUST have small hands. There's NO way if you have big hands that you'd think the Xbox Series X controller feels natural in your hands. To me, it feels small and my hands feel like it's smothering the controller. It feels awkward to hold compared to the hefty PS5 Dual Sense controller. I'm not body shaming small hands either, sorry if it sounds like it.

neutralgamer199242d ago

Rocky I am 6-4 with quite large hands. I have a otter box cover OK my controllers. Yes without that she'll case I definitely think it's too small

phatak42d ago (Edited 42d ago )

well thats your personal opinion, im a full time pc gamer and the dualsense is easily the best controller ever made, the texture effect on the back and sides of the xbox controller this generation is extremely strong that it feels awful, I literally have to use a rubber cover or wear gloves to make that texture go away, it feels like saw dust. Playstation also has a texture but its much more normal feeling, the last time microsoft had a better controller than sony was the xbox 360, xbox one and ps4 dualshock were basically a tie, while dualsense smokes the series s/x controller for me personally

Profchaos42d ago

I've got to admit I never liked the Xbox one design the stick tension is wrong it's shoulder buttons don't feel right the grips are not as ergonomic and I don't like using it for long periods of time but the 360 pad was perfection I still use it over the Xbox one controller

TheEroica41d ago

The Sony defense force is gonna hate your comment. They're corporate bootlickers so expect downvotes.

PanicMechanic41d ago

The Xbox series controller is inferior to the Dualsense in just about every way possible. Dualsense feels better in my hands. Haptic feedback obviously makes the Dualsense the better controller and that can’t even be debated.

The series controller feels too “narrow” in my hands compared to the Dualsense

crazyCoconuts42d ago

On PC the biggest drawback of dualshock/dualsense is lack of universal support.
Once you've got DS4Windows / Steam Support configured, the Sony controllers simply have more features.
I can use the trackpad as a mouse which is really useful in Windows.
I can also use the gyro in Steam games for fine tuned aiming which is a great feature once you get used to it.
The other advanced features that the dualsense have are great (triggers, better haptics), but having to connect it via USB just to find most PC games don't support it isn't great at all.

Anyway this user mod doesn't support any of that greatness on xbox anyway... i was just talking about PC

Goodguy0142d ago

Budget 3rd party controllers have been amazing lately that even include back buttons, great battery life, trigger stops, and hall effects for $40-$60. 3rd party has been amazing and stepping it up, I'd recommend them if you're on PC. Official controllers by the big 3 and pro controllers are selling them overpriced and have some features fail within a year as a person who's tried out many controllers myself.

gold_drake42d ago

fuck no
i hate the xbox controllers. they are so bulky and loud for no good reason.

the biggest drawback of the somy controllers is the lack of 100% support.

Profchaos41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

Plus the face buttons feel like you need to press then harder which doesn't lend itself well to twitch motions it's my most hated gamepad for retro gaming on PC or though emulation

It feels like it's built around shooters and nothing else

andy8541d ago (Edited 41d ago )

Only because of the ease of use connecting a Microsoft product to a PC. It's just plug and play unlike the dualsense. I personally use an Xbox controller too on my laptop, but if it was as flawless I'd be using a dualsense every time.

"What is this magic you bring us?"

MrDead41d ago

No s#it.

"If you use the adjective archaic you are referring to something outmoded, belonging to an earlier period. Rotary phones and cassette players already seem so archaic! The adjective archaic means something that belongs to an earlier or antiquated time."

oldenjon41d ago

Well, it reads like you don't understand what it means. Just trying to help lol

Well then you need to take some comprehension lessons, because what he said and how he used archaic is absolutely fine

oldenjon41d ago

@schoolboi oh thx ‘school’ boi! Yeah the point of the joke is somewhat obscure, and the language used isn’t really helping me grok it.

KwietStorm_BLM42d ago

I don't like the multiverse. It's scary.

DivineHand12542d ago (Edited 42d ago )

This is a huge win. I will try this as soon as I get home before Microsoft pulls the app. The only thing that is left is for someone to mod the dual sense controller buttons with Xbox buttons.

DivineHand12541d ago (Edited 41d ago )

Ok, to add an update. The app works, but you will need a PC or Android phone to act as a middleman to manage the connection between the console and the dual-sense controller. I was able to connect my dual sense using Bluetooth to my laptop, and then my laptop was able to connect to the Xbox via wifi.

I was able to control the Xbox dash board using the controller, and I tried playing 2 games. I tried the Xbox 360 version of Sonic Generations (disk version), but that didn't work. I then tried playing Forza Horizon 4 (Digital), and I was able to control the game without any noticeable input lag. I expected the game to have rumble like PS4 games on the PS5, however, there was no vibration what so ever. I was only able to experience the novelty of using a dual sense controller to control the Xbox Series X. In its current state, you are better off just using the Xbox controller.

The flaw I noticed is that if you have Steam running on your PC and you press the Playstation button thinking it will take you back to the dashboard, you are wrong. It will just launch Steam big picture mode on the PC, and at that point you have to focus on what is on your PC because you don't want to press and open something accidentally. It seems you will still need an Xbox controller to get back to the dashboard/home screen. It doesn't matter if you exit Steam on your PC.

PlayStation and Retailers Have Increased the PS5 DualSense Controller by $5

Sony has seemingly implemented a PS5 DualSense controller price increase without announcing it, and it's implemented by retailers too.

Chocoburger228d ago (Edited 228d ago )

As if they weren't already overpriced enough as it is. And all 3 first party companies refuse to use hall effect analog sticks on purpose, just to sell more us controllers.

Sega used hall effect analog sticks for both Saturn and Dreamcast.

excaliburps228d ago

What do you mean? Third-party controllers do use Hall effect to prevent stick drift.

Chocoburger228d ago

Indeed, I have even recently bought hall effect third party controllers on pre-order last month, but I made no mention of third parties in my previous post. I specifically mentioned first party, which are usually the best build quality (outside of the potentiometer analog sticks).

just_looken227d ago

Get ready for those to be blocked via a update sony and xbox has blocked alot of 3rd party stuff on there consoles even fight stick's no doubt 3rd party pads will also be blocked soon.

Good-Smurf228d ago

Now you know how Nintendo's making a killing with their stick drift prone Joy Cons.
I missed the days they used to make indestructible controller immune to analog stick drift came with the system.
Some of my DualShock 2 controllers still going strong with no stick drift after what seemed like 20 years despite its rubber are all melted away long before and yes, the pressure sensitive buttons still work perfectly as well.

Chocoburger228d ago

Yep, even my 1996 Nintendo 64 controller still works fine its a bit loose, but the sensitivity is still present, and there is no drifting. First party companies are intentionally taking the piss with us, and its not right. The DualSense Edge allows you to replace the analog sticks, but that's a feature which should be present on all standard controllers from Sony / Nin / MS, without having to pay $200 for the privilege just to pay them more for replacement sticks.

My DualShocks 1, 2, 3, don't really suffer from any drifting, but I bought some used PS3 consoles off ebay, and the controllers arrived damaged with sticks that have some drifting to them, but that's because they were abused.

neutralgamer1992228d ago

I really am surprised how there hasn’t been an class action lawsuit for that against these companies

porkChop227d ago

First party controller prices are insane. 3rd parties like 8BitDo are putting out controllers with just as high quality, with hall effect sticks and triggers, for considerably less money. It's become such a ripoff.

It's actually gone higher in other regions Australia just saw it go from $110 RRP to $125 not that it doesn't frequently go on sale for $80 odd

darthv72228d ago

Hmm.... when the Concord controller went on sale, it was $84.99 while the Astro bot one was $79.99. And Astro released after Concord yet they are just now increasing the price by $5.

jznrpg228d ago

I have 1 Astro Bot, 3 launch and 1 Edge plus I’ll get another with the Pro. I don’t need anymore controllers. I’ll probably keep the Astro Bot in the box. I have had no issues with any of them even the 2 my young children use. I do make them wash their hands before using them and tell them not ever to set the controllers on the stick side so that helps I’d guess.

I’m sure parts cost more for them so it gets passed to the consumer.

darthv72228d ago

you didnt pick up the concord one? That goes for big $$ now, like the hogwarts edition. The other special editions seem to be more reasonable but those two are stupid pricey now.

ZacultronTheFirst228d ago

This is just ridiculous!
And even more so are the people expecting Pro's price to be less than 600$.
