PS5 And Xbox Series X Loading Times, Compared (They’re Close)

Kotaku: "So far we’ve shown you how PS5 loads games very quickly and Xbox Series X and S load games very quickly. Long story short, both systems load next-gen games at ludicrous speeds while giving older games a little push. But in order to gauge how ludicrous is ludicrous, we needed to get a couple of next-gen games the two systems had in common."

Digital Foundry released video showing other games booting up far faster on Series X. So I think it will depend on the game. Either way this is a vast improvement!

LordoftheCritics1685d ago

At the end of the day the load times wont matter. Both will be close in their own ways.

This will be a close gen I feel. Win win for gamers.

xHeavYx1684d ago

Close? Lol. Xbox is still doing the same thing they do. All that power and zero games. It will be just like last gen.

chrisoadamson1684d ago

@xHeavYx have you been asleep for the last 6 months. Xbox has acquired the largest games studio portfolio.

Another 6-12months and the games will be flowing

ABizzel11685d ago

Those were last-gen games running in backward-compatible mode where it clearly seems like Xbox has done more work with their emulation and logic to aid older games, whereas, PS4 games seem to just use brute force on all but the PS+ Collection game to try and improve speeds which it does, but Xbox emulation optimizations in older games allow it to load faster.

These are next-gen games where the PS5 is clearly 2x faster in UI to full game boot (which is kind of surprising, because even though it's 2x faster, you're not guaranteed 2x real-world performance, so Kudos to Sony and their pipeline), meanwhile skipping through opening scenes is within the margin of error for both consoles that it's negligible.

Regardless both consoles are fast, PS5 faster at loading and launching new games, Series X faster at loading and launching last-gen games.

Taero1684d ago

I seem to recall hearing that PS4 games are recreated as they were on the PS4, load times included. So adding the SSD would really only do so much (similar to upgrading to an SSD on the old console) whereas XBox actually tried to lower the loading times in their BC. This is how MM can load in a couple of seconds whereas old games are loading closer to a minute.

QUIMICOMORTAL1684d ago

those other games are prevous gen games on next gen consoles, next gen games should load faster on ps5

Mr_Luke1684d ago

Ok, i think i'm going to like this generation far more than the old one. Damn, those loading times are a dream :O
Can't wait to put my hands on my new console :D

Petebloodyonion1684d ago

What do you know?
For the moment, both consoles seem to offer similar graphics and similar load time performances
Would have never expected that considering that the Serie X is the most powerful console of all time and the PS5 is the speediest console of all time.

green1684d ago

Both are very quick and are a huge upgrade from last gen. There is nothing in between both of them. Some will be faster on one console and some games may be faster on the other. But if this is something you would want to use as bragging rights to say that my console is better that yours, then you need to sit down and take a good hard ook at your life.

Bathyj1684d ago

It's not going to matter how fast you can load a game from the menu. It's how fast you can load in assets during gameplay.

Can you free the ram up so it doesn't need the next 20 seconds if all possible scenarios like this Gen? Can you load everything you see and then load what's behind you while you're turning?

That will be the game changer that will enable games to be made differently from the ground up, not exact as they are now but quicker loading.

jbull1684d ago

That's where Sony's exclusive studios are going to blow us away in the years ahead, we already seen R&C, GOW and Horizon will be next.

Minute Man 7211684d ago (Edited 1684d ago )

We won't be able to tell when we are playing games on both systems. Sampler Feedback at work. Sony has that super fast SSD, Micro has that VA that according to MS will have access to 100 GBs of game data ready to retrieve in an instant. We won't be able to tell

"Players can now hide system apps, pin favorites to the list, and reduce the number of tiles displayed. This update is part of our ongoing effort to make Home more personal, flexible, and responsive to feedback."

This is welcomed, i like a less cluttered home screen.

Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny review - Design of the Times | TechStomper

"Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny feels stuck between 2025 and 2002. Not quite enough of the past to be pure nostalgia, and not enough of the present to feel fresh."
