Absolutely amazing and can't wait for 2021

ABizzel11355d ago

This makes me think God of War will be "delayed" until Spring 2022 with Horizon in the 2nd quarter, there's no need to have both of them there, and God of War has been a Spring game for a while now :)

RickRoland1355d ago

Disagree there’s definitely room for both of them. God of War will sell no matter what month it releases.

Harkins17211355d ago

I'd rather they take their time with GoW. 2022 it is!

bouzebbal1355d ago

Wow, crazy line-up!!
I don't remember if RE8 was also confirmed for Q1?

LoveSpuds1355d ago (Edited 1355d ago )

I completely disagree, this is how Sony cement their reputation, the sales of Last of Us and Tsushima were completely unaffected by their close launch dates, they both sold by the boat load and, having released these games in that manner, developed a massive amount of buzz and good will from consumers who couldn't believe how impressive Sony's track record was in respect of its exclusive content.

If Horizon and God of War launched a couple of months apart they would both be hugely popular as well as, again, driving that hype and good will with gamers.

Given how impotent Microsoft are in this area, Sony should exploit that hype and reputation to the fullest and land banger after banger for the next two years before Xbox can do anything meaningful in response. Once they have that momentum there will be little MS can do to change things.

Teflon021355d ago

Forgetting they haven't shown gameplay or anything for GoW yet. They have no reason to add its release info. If they had a actual trailer already they'd probably give info. But not yet. Once the first gameplay trailer drops then I would start questioning it's release

bouzebbal1355d ago

No idea what you are basing your theory on..
GoW is Q1 confirmed, that's January to March..
Horizon is Q2, covers April to end June.. That can definitely happen.. GT7 and GoW would make Q1 a massive release window

--Onilink--1355d ago

Honestly, almost every major PS4 first party game was delayed at least once this gen, Sony is definitely like Nintendo in that regard, that they dont shy away from delays to make sure its the best game possible (and thats without taking covid/wfh into account)

So I wouldnt really put it out of the realm of possibilities to see GT pushed to the 2nd half of 2021 and HZD to early 2022

I expect the games to be great anyway, so I’d rather assume they will be delayed and not get dissapointed if it does happen

ABizzel11355d ago (Edited 1355d ago )

@Rick

They have too many other things scheduled. There's no need to have God of War there when it can come out after the holidays and have a larger install base to sell to. A 4 - 6 months delay is absolutely fine, as they still have Ratchet and Clank, Gran Turismo 7, Deathloop, Kena Bridge of Spirits, Ghostwire: Tokyo, FF16, Horizon Forbidden West, Returnal, and Destruction All-Stars all scheduled to launch in 2021 (FF16 is another possible 2022).

As much as most of us want GoW ASAP, it's not needed for Sony in 2021.

@LoveSpuds

The Last of Us and Tsushima were both selling to an install base of 110 - 120 millions PlayStation gamers. PS5 is unlikely to be at 20 million users by November 2021, whereas, they are extremely likely to be there by spring of 2022 possibly 25 million once GoW releases.

It doesn't need to come out next year. They already have around 10 announced games for 2021, God of War can roll right into 2022 where it can complete development around holiday 2021, and use the extra few months to make sure the game runs and plays flawlessly in 60fps mode, has an amazing photo mode, and add accessibility option on the scale of The Last of Us 2 for everyone to play regardless of skill and disability.

@bouzebbal

Where was God of War confirmed for Q1 2021?

1Victor1355d ago

@ABizz how can a game that was TEASED not even a gameplay picture with just a ruff 1 year window be delayed 🤦🏿 Halo was delayed it was supposed to be launch game next week GOW DON’T HAVE A DATE HENCE CAN’T BE DELAYED 🤯

Christopher1355d ago

If 2019 taught me anything, it's that Sony doesn't really bother with release windows for good games.

Class_Viceroy1355d ago

I don't think they would of dropped that bombshell of teasing Ragnarok, only to delay it. It's actually brilliant to release these games in Year 1. X-box has NOTHING coming until 2022, besides Halo, and maybe Senua 2. If PS5 releases ALL of these games before the Xbox even gets off the ground running, Sony will have already won this generation.

ABizzel11355d ago

@1Victor

By being revealed for 2021, and then Sony and the developer deciding early 2022 is a better timeframe so they don't have to deal with a crowded holiday, and can completely own the entire month the game releases unchallenged.

Some of you need to take the fanboy worship glasses off and simply let a comment be just that, a comment. There is nothing in my comment saying God of War is in trouble, its simply stating what Sony and their developers have been doing with games all 2019 and 2020 (releasing them when it makes the most sense / when they're 100% ready), and when God of War has consistently been released.

For example, God of War 1, God of War 2, God of War 3, God of War Ascension, God of War PS4, and Chains of Olympus ALL BEING RELEASED IN SPRING, with Ghost of Sparta and the mobile game being the only two not to release in Spring.

RgR1355d ago

Well...i would think that if we were talking about Microsoft.

Sony has a pattern of being able to deliver exclusives all throughout the year.

Is it bad that this Ad gave me chills? 😅

purple1011355d ago

Console war over. Doesn't matter what Microsoft does.. there not beating that lot.

Chevalier1355d ago

Damn.... I guess I got a timeline to get one now. Lol. Did not think Returnal would be coming so soon. Add in the games I ready want along with Horizon, Ratchet and GT and its turning into a must have for me now.

NeoGamer2321355d ago

What a great first half for 2021!

Can't wait for GT, Returnal and R&C. Better get on picking up a PS5 early in the new year.

First thing I spotted.

This is the same dialogue as the other tv spot but that felt flat to me. This one with the games really hits home

As usual it's all about the games.

jznrpg1355d ago (Edited 1355d ago )

Don’t sleep on Returnal! It looks really good . Rift Apart looks like the best R&C game yet and I don’t need to say anything about Forbidden West and GT7 on top of it . Amazing launch year

Daver1355d ago

I agree returnal from what we have seen so far looks very nice!

LiViNgLeGaCY1355d ago

Dude. Returnal looks amazing. I can't wait for that game.

Petebloodyonion1355d ago

Returnal is my most anticipated PS5 game for the moment

1355d ago
jznrpg1355d ago

I forgot about God of War too! Even if it launches 2022 which it may or may not it doesn’t really matter but if you add God of War damn that’s too much

AMD FSR 3.1 Frame Gen 15% Faster than DLSS 3.5: Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Forbidden West

Nixxes just added FSR 3.1 to all recent Sony titles on PC. This update improves quality and temporal stability while boosting frame rates by up to 10%. It also allows you to pair AMD’s open-source (works on everything) frame generation with DLSS-based upscaling.

DarXyde25d ago

I'm genuinely curious on results when stacking DLSS+FSR. I imagine it will create some inconsistencies but I haven't seen any circumstance where they're paired.

Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough because something like this would definitely be tested and analyzed.

DustMan25d ago

DLSS plus AMD frame Gen can be used together via a mod that's easy to install on most games that support DLSS 3.0. It's a difference maker and both work very well in tandem with each other. I can see it being implemented moving forward as the Frame Generation aspect of FSR does not need to be coupled with it's it's upscaling tech. That said. FSR is getting better with each and every upgrade. Honestly it's getting hard for me to see a difference at this point with my 40 year old eyes.

Started up Last of Us, and honestly I had a really hard time finding quality issues with the new FSR vs DLSS. Yes. DLSS has an edge, slightly noticeable when you stop moving and analyze all the details. However I'm not playing games to simply judge the games fidelity.

If AMD can figure out how to beef up their Ray Tracing performance they'll really be on to something. I personally will find it difficult to buy another Nvidia GPU when I fear a set of features will be locked behind a paywall in 2 or 3 years.

Zeref25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

It shouldn't be a problem at all. The tech is completely independent of eachother. If NVIDIA wanted to they could do the same.

ED20225d ago

Yea and fsr looking horrible while dlss is no brainer looks like native+ without amd pixelation, shimmering and ghosting. Nvidia and sony did good job on horizon fbw it looks increbile and play maxed out 4k visuals(with dlss quality) 120fps

DustMan25d ago

I have a 3080, and the difference is becoming less and less apparent. Not saying FSR is perfect yet, but It's improving bit by bit with every update. Depending on your setup the difference is really becoming negligible, and in a couple years AMD's equivalent will be just as viable. Won't need to buy a new GPU to take advantage of it either.

Have you ever seen God of War, Horizon, Death Stranding, or FF7 go from 16:9 on PS to 32:9 on PC? Its like a totally new experience! 120FPS helps too.

just_looken28d ago

yet be it on console or pc aloy will never be in the center of the screen that always got to me.

Oh and the framerate drops on ps5 never played H2 on pc yet.

But yeah you can not beat pc for the xess/fsr on any game with any card and that ultra wide when a game support's it.

I have been enjoying some days gone native 4k maxed out at 120fps locked.

Eonjay28d ago

Nixxes is really off the charts with their PC support. Honestly Sony made a really good choice by purchasing them.

Fishy Fingers29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

"Major" exaggeration but sounds fancier than "improved upscaling over FSR3"

The actual interesting thing with FSR3.1 is theyve decoupled the frame gen so you can use it with a better upscaler, DLSS (useful if you dont have a 40 series).

Tacoboto29d ago

I'd say it is pretty major though. Five Nixxes titles in one day, their entire PS5-PC portfolio including their earliest port Spider-Man Remastered.

It's rare seeing a unified approach like this covering years of titles. Nixxes must have an incredibly thorough and consistent tech stack to pull this off

Fishy Fingers29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

Agree. Impressive support.

Although im sure you actually understood what I was saying. Its an decent incrimental update to AMDs upscaling software which is arguably the worst of the big 3 solutions. Native, these games still look better, as they do with DLSS.

Tacoboto29d ago

Oh yeah I upvoted you too, totally understand what you're saying (and I know my framing of "major" is different than the article's)

just_looken28d ago

It shows what a real port studio is unlike iron galaxy

I agree its rare but i also see it as a sad situation with the millions/billions made we should have seen this with many many other games in mass updates. But sadly only a few games are using 40 series tech then fs3 can be used on any game but the big features are per game dependent its like come on now.

Atleast when you see nixxes you know your getting a quality port.

Returnal Beginning of a "New Future" at Housemarque, Is the Game That "Allowed" Studio to Join Sony

According to Housemarque, Returnal marks the beginning of a "new future" at the studio, and is the game that them to join Sony.

fr0sty39d ago (Edited 39d ago )

Returnal was fantastic, and I'm looking forward to seeing what these folks create with Sony in the future.

Storm2338d ago

Ithas been my favorite experience of this generation so far I think. Can't wait to see what Housemarque is working on now.

jznrpg39d ago

They make some fun arcade styles games. Returnal is one of the best games so far this generation. I wonder what is next

amobius39d ago

returnal is easily one of the most underrated games this gen. a lot of people with ps5s dont know it exists.

fr0sty39d ago

And it exists for free if you subscribe to PS+ Extra or Premium.

Kornholic38d ago

For free? 12 months of PS Plus Extra costs 130 € and Premium is 160 €.

Where I live you can buy Returnal for as little as 15 € if you buy it used. Even at full price it is nowhere near the cost of PS Plus Extra or Premium.

So how on earth can you se that it exists for free if you subscribe to those paid subscription services?

ChasterMies38d ago

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I think “Returnal” is perfectly rated. The restart mechanic is not the most fun for everyone.

JEECE38d ago

Yeah, I think the Tower of Sisyphus would have addressed this somewhat if it had been in the game earlier. The gameplay is great, but I sometimes chose to play other things when I didn't want to commit to a run (particularly before they added the save feature). The tower provided a way to have fun with the arcade gameplay without investing in a full run, which was nice, and felt in line with their prior games.

gold_drake38d ago

returnal was amazkng, i loved everything anout it
