Backward Compatibility on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S

With the imminent launches of both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X|S later this month, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 will be playable on these new consoles via backward compatibility, along with the most recent versions of L.A. Noire (including the PlayStation VR version of L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files), and a number of classic Rockstar titles.

I woulda liked GTA3 to keep its low poly look, but add ray traced lighting/reflections, and 4k60.

So... can we get 60fps for Red Dead 2?

No next-gen enhancements from what I could see from this article they will make you buy new versions again from the looks of it.

EmperorDalek70d ago

Yeah probably. I would complain, but I'll probably buy it anyway.

Looks like another game I'll be buying again. I've been holding off on 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim in case they announce it for PS5.

Bruh70d ago (Edited 70d ago )

Of course they will its a Take 2 product

mokkeyrg270d ago

Thats what they done with 360 to one and ps3 to ps4 made us buy again

P_Bomb70d ago

13 sentinels was ace! Story, characters, visuals, music, I even dug the new take on combat. It’s smooth, so regardless where you play it, just play it.

Glad I held off on Red Dead.

To be fair, requires a high end computer to run it at a stable 60 fps on max settings. On my 2070 in 1440p on max settings it runs at about 45-50fps

From what I've heard, MS are working on a feature that would automatically unlock the framerate in BC games. That way most games would hit 60fps without the devs needing to do anything.

Screw this company. They use to be the best, now they are just lazy money grabbing scumbags.

_Decadent_Descent70d ago

Never were the best at all, but they used to be much better.

MightyHealthy70d ago

You only say that because you want to play a new gta or a new rockstar title lol

GTAO for sure but RDR 2 definitely doesn't feel like a money grab. Many of the design decisions proved unpopular, you'd never see someone like EA or Activision do that who care more for profits than artistic vision. Games on GTA 5's or RDR2's scale take years to develop, companies like R* owned by parent companies don't have the luxury to take how long they want, only reason they are given the time to do so is because daddy Take Two is satisfied thanks to all the money GTAO brings in. Look at CDPR for example, it's taken them a long long time to release Cyberpunk and we all know that is going to be something special.

What the heck are you guys complaining about? If you bought it on PS4, you just put in your disc (or external hard drive with the digital version from PS4) into your PS5 and play it. It'll work and everything carries over via backwards compatibility. There's no charge. *eyeroll*

Hmm that’s pretty cool! Would be interesting to fire up GTA 4 and see that solid 60fps action!
