First gaming benchmarks released for the AMD Radeon RX 6900XT GPU

AMD has shared the first gaming benchmarks for its upcoming Big Navi GPU, the AMD Radeon RX 6900XT.

If AMD can nail the price they can have an extremely competitive card. If they could put this card out at $600 or less it'll be very competitive. If they can get it at the rumored $500 or less it'll be the go to card for a lot of people.

It wasn't confirmed to be the 6900 XT, but all things suggest it to be especially since this lines up with the Igro's lab rumor from about a month ago, that pretty much nailed performance to be right between 2080ti / 3070 and RTX 3080, but closer to the 3080, which these benchmarks practically confirm.

It also said they were looking at a $599 price for the GPU, which would offer a potential highly competitive GPU that's $100 less than the 3080, and $100 more than the 3070, but much closer in performance to the 3080 than the 3070 in most games. Which overall is a solid spot to be in.

That being said AMD needs a fallout win, and not a solid spot to be in, because NVIDIA still likely has the Ray Tracing advantage, and the other benefits of their architecture for editing, and non-performance related things likes broadcasting.

So here's hoping AMD has their software together, their drivers together, and the supply together to cover gamers for the holiday as NVIDIA is likely launching the 3070 and having minuscule supply for the remainder of the year.

If AMD can produce a healthy supply for the holidays then they might make a small dent in NVIDIA's armor with the 6900 XT on the high-end, and bring a value battle to NVIDIA across the mid-range as well with the rumored performance and prices of the 6000 XT line.

6900 XT, $549 - $599, around 10% - 15% less performance than the RTX 3080
6800 XT, $399 - $499, around RTX 2080 ti performance
6700 XT, $299 - $349, RTX 2070 super performance

If they can safely hit the $549, $399, and $299 prices, and have a stable supply, then AMD has a holiday win on their hands, but I expect them to be at the higher prices of $599, $449, and maybe $299, which would still be good especially since NVIDIA doesn't have supply.

BL3 on the 3080 with the same settings as whichever navi2 card was shown(no indication that it was a 6900xt or if a 6900xt even exists), is the same. 60fps.

@yeahokwhatever until we see more then all there is to say is speculation. I don't think it's unreasonable to speculate that the card in question might be the 6900 XT, that in may have 10-15% less performance than a 3080 overall or to guess at the prices or the models. I reckon most of us are under the impression that AMD is showing favourable cherry-picked benchmarks and that the 60fps in Borderlands 3 to match up nicely against the 3080s similar benchmarks doesn't necessarily mean they have the same performance overall, though this marketing is definitely designed to lead people to believe that.

No the 3080 performs around 65 fps in Borderlands 3, 4K on Bad@$$ settings, and also Gears 5 runs better on the 3080 than the benchmarks provided by AMD. Therefore, once again it runs around 10% better on the 3080 than the leaked benchmarks AMD released, and according to AMD own words the Ryzen 5000 series is better for gaming than the Intel 10000 series and allows games to squeeze out a few more fps, which all benchmarks from the 3080 are on Intel 10000 or Ryzen 3000, which is where the range of the 3080 being 10% - 15% faster came from, outside of AMD optimized games where the 6900 XT should win.

So you basically replied just typed a waste of a response that added nothing to the conversation for no reason. Congrats!

Well stated. Nvidia’s software is going to be hard to beat. DLSS has come a long way over the last 3 years, and I’m wondering if AMD will have something right out the gate. Everyone is upgrading something for CP 2077

Waiting for one of those, tbh. I am sure it'll be at least $50 below a comparable RTX30 series. Hopefully lower power, too. Probably not going for the top tier. Want <250W and <$500. That would probably be the 6800XT. 1440@100fps over brute force 4k@60, tbh.

Apparently, Division 3 is launching next with DLSS like implementation from AMD. That's what I have heard from my sources. Don't take my word for it.

A theoretical Division 3 (D2 didn't meet Ubi's sale expectations) would not arrive before March 2021. That means AMD has NOTHING in the meantime.

Allegedly their GPUs are better than Turing at RT, but not up to par with Ampere which makes sense considering they had years to learn from Turing and create something with the advances in tech during that time. They also will have some form of machine learning to compete with DLSS, however, this is where they will definitely be behind, as I think they will be starting from a DLSS 1.0 level of performance and playing catchup with NVIDIA on this.

According to the leaks that is.

I mean to be fair AMD has been spot on with the information they have been providing for quite a while. Yes, it'll be nice to get independent reviews but let's not drag AMD through the mud when their track record on Zen and RX have been very accurate.

Thermals please! Numbers are not looking too bad, but I want to see what the Temp of the card while the card is running. My RTX 2070 Super never goes beyond 65'C at full Core Clock (2,000Mhz).

I’ve got an RTX 2070 Super also. I would say you’ve got a good card and very good cooling system. The cards themselves are known to run hot and loud. I can get my MSI Armor to run at @2040mhz max with a lot of tinkering and new paste but the cards hellova loud and hot over about 1900mhz.

Although the thermal limit is set at 88’c my card will not allow it to go past 79’c. It can hit that pretty quick and then it’ll just keep clocking down to keep it from going above that.

They’re easy as loud as the PS4 jet engine if not louder!

Pricing needs to be sub-650. But .... this is no Radeon VII vs 2080 anymore.

Well their RT solution should be the same as or improved from the consoles. But I would be happy to pay a little less for a little less RT as long as the base performance when using traditional post processing techniques was solid.

RT is a complete after thought for me at least.

Post processing is anything that happens after the base 3D image is rendered(processed) like anti aliasing, lighting, shadows, anisotropic filtering, ambient occlusion and even ray tracing are all post process effects.

RT can produce indirect lighting, soft shadows, depth of field, motion blur, and ambient occlusion.

Unless they have an answer to DLSS I don't see how AMD has a chance, it gives a 50-60% performance boost which is essentially a generational leap for free.

DLSS is not magic. You can do the same with dynamic resolution or resolution scaling. The difference is: DLSS also uses supersampling to produce a sharper image.

looking up 3080 benchmarks at 4k and this is right there with it. Nobody can confirm for sure until they are bench marked on same cpu and system. But so far looking good and if they nail price point and availability it will sell like crazy.

Thats pretty good for a card thats weaker and performing nearly on par with the 3080 just shows how amd can make a gpu that can have so little that can punch above its weight.

Radeon 6800 at 599$ with 16GB GDDR6 will run against an NVIDIA GeFORCE 3080 with 12GB GDDR6 and 699$ price... well... drivers will tell what to buy after new year eve.
