Sony marketed several major titles such as Horizon Forbidden West as PS5 games, despite PS4 versions also being in development. It's not clear if it's intentional or not, but it's bad for the consumer.
Windows central.com and androidcentral.com are still tag teaming to fuel the Sony hate train then.. Uses the word 'misled' in the title. Says 'not clear if intentional' in summary text. Enjoy your clicks, I guess.
I probably shouldn't engage, but the fact is I'm more interested and excited in the games PlayStation has shown for (at least so far) 2020-2021 than any Xbox titles, because we don't know a lot about the latter. Heck I'm more interested in Demon's Souls than any non-Cyberpunk game announced, period. Doesn't mean I'm okay with Sony suddenly flipping the script and pretending it didn't spend a year saying the PS5 was a hard break. It's okay to call your favorite companies out, I promise.
Fwiw I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said (you probably could have skipped the final remark though), but this discussion has been done to death. Some websites can be tusted to make fair criticisms of any company, these two aren't among them. Regardless of their message here, they're just keeping the discussion alive through preferential bias and for clicks, per their MO.
I like when sony fans say something negative about sony, 99% of the time it always has to be paired with something negative about xbox as well ;) I feel a bit cheated by Sony that they reveal this info now, im not sure if omission of info is the same as misleading, it just leaves a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth that they didn't mention this earlier. Maybe they saw xbox got blasted for the crossgen and crossplatform stuff they are doing and wanted to pair the "negative news" with something that would without a doubt be very positively received (the price and date reveal etc), to lessen the impact of it. I dont believe they unintentionally didnt reveal that those games are also on ps4. It's not even bad that those games will come to ps4 as well since a lot of people cant get their hands on a ps5 for the foreseeable future or just decide to pick one up later and can still enjoy the games. It's just that a company who has been in top shape for the last 8 years and which I almost blindly support, felt the need to withhold this information from their (loyal customers) for whatever reason, you can do better Sony.
That is why it's just healthier to be a PlayStation fan because you are no beholden to worship Sony either. You can call them out when they screw up. But yes it's over let's move on.
Not on a site such as this. There's a certain company you aren't allowed to criticize for anything, without being a simple "hater/fanboy".
Haha let them mislead... Day one haters.
Right so get the ps5. Personally I get all of the consoles. But I just don’t like the new god of war Spider-Man or horizon. And now that Quantic dream is going multiplat im really having a hard time justifying getting a ps5 this time around. I’ll get one to play with friends in some titles. But it’s frustrating having nothing to look forward to on the console so far. Hopefully there will be some fun Japanese games come out later, but with all the censoring might just go switch or switch 4K when that gets officially announced. But Xbox has far more interesting titles so far, halo gears Forza fable avowed, then I’ll be playing cyberpunk on series x where it will look and or play the best console wise.
@michael It's no different than MS saying all games playable across their family of devices only to change it to a couple of years ... maybe
I may be the only one who is looking forward to them releasing cross gen games. I know everyone else is hung up on tjere being cross gen games but thats not a bad thing. The next gen ones are going to be just fine. Nothing is being held back. Im hoping for others as well.
Yeah, that's the thing. Spider-Man was a PS4 game, that they're remastering for PS5 with a new character, new powers and new story. The trouble is, they showed off the speed of the PS5 SSD using tuned PS4 code and that can't be done on PS4. So people assume things, but I remember people saying at the time it should also come to PS4, albeit with appropriate adjustments. HFW is a different case entirely. Sony have said that it will take full advantage of PS5 SSD and other benefits, so people assumed again (me too). But development started before PS5 dev kits were a thing, so it seems reasonable to put the sequel on PS4 too. GOW2 came out after the PS3 released because of the dev cycle and PS3 had to wait for the HD remaster - we won't have to this time! NOW if GOW Ragnarok comes to PS4 I'd be surprised and pissed, because that would be purely a financial decision due to the massive PS4 base. That game should be used to sell PS5, since the development started that much later.
@SullysCigar: What if the game is just ported the way devs port games to Switch? That doesn't effect the original higher quality version that came a few yrs before? I think people are forgetting this fact. Sony could have another team doing the port for the ps4 version as the main team is building the ps5 version. Ever think of that? Anyone?
Exactly, buying a new console now is clearly more like upgrading your PC. Exact same game but waaay prettier and runs better. The architecture of the new consoles is clearly extremely similar/pretty much the same as the current gen, so why would they not make all games cross platform. All they need to do is the same as we do on PC, turn some settings up and down depending on what system you are on. People need to chill, the next gen versions will still look and play vastly better than the current gen versions, they won't be held back in any way, at least not any more than PC games have been held back by consoles forever.
The irony in what you're trying to point to here is that many were "misled" on this subject; however, most of that came from media, fanboys, and click-bait sites that pushed an inaccurate narrative. They were able to do so because 1. It was framed in a very pro-Sony way, right? Fanboys relished in the idea that their preferred brand was doing something different, which of course ALWAYS means better. 2. Sony didn't correct that narrative. Why should they, though? It was to their benefit to have the fanboy wars go in their favor. And at the end of the day, it would be meaningless because they'd still sell these games to the both PS4 and PS5 owners like they alluded to themselves. So if you want to call out any particular media, call out the ones that twisted this story in the first place. I personally have the receipts from where I actually read what Ryan said back in May and said that it sounded like they'd be doing something very similar to MS's cross-gen approach. Guess the response I received when voicing that view... But many others didn't read his statements, just like they don't actually read the statements of "other" execs. Instead they eat up whatever narrative sounds best and aligns with their own biases, even though those stories are only twisted for clicks, too. It's not a hate train against Sony. It's both fanboys and click-bait churnalists chasing their own tails rather than admitting that they created the problem in the first place.
Bro, if you have to write an essay over this, you take this shit wayy too serious.
Thanks, Billy! I tried to keep the syllable count down so you could understand it!
Well Jim Ryan did say PS5 games would be exclusive to PS5. It's hard to read the below and think he meant anything else. "We have always said that we believe in generations. We believe that when you go to all the trouble of creating a next-gen console, that it should include features and benefits that the previous generation does not include. And that, in our view, people should make games that can make the most of those features. "We do believe in generations, and whether it's the DualSense controller, whether it's the 3D audio, whether it's the multiple ways that the SSD can be used... we are thinking that it is time to give the PlayStation community something new, something different, that can really only be enjoyed on PS5."
@Limp People ignore the rest of his statement though. "We have always felt that we had a responsibility to serve that [PS4] community for several years after the launch of PS5 and that it represented a huge business opportunity for us," Ryan says. "The numbers are quite straightforward. If you say in broad brush figures that we have a community of 100 million PS4 owners right now, and in the first couple of years... I don't know, somewhere between 15 and 25 million might migrate to PS5, that still leaves a huge number of people with PS4s. And that community is demonstrating an amazing stickiness, and willingness to stay engaged that, I think, the events of the past few months have just reinforced what we knew already."
"I tried to keep the syllable count down so you could understand it!" lol....burn
Sony lies... Microsoft lies... Nintendo lies... Apple lies... Google lies... every company lies, as long it's in their interest.Who ever thinks otherwise, lives in La La Land.
You lie lol
Well said. It's just important to call them out, or else they get even worse, thinking they're untouchable. In 2020, large corporations get away with virtually anything. The only thing consumers can really do is publicly shame them, and or refuse to buy the product.
Everyone hated on Xbox for having the same strategy, so atleast its even. This is the way it’s always been though. Always cross gen for a while. Lots of customers don’t upgrade the first year
"Windows central.com and androidcentral.com are still tag teaming to fuel the Sony hate train then.." It's a conspiracy!
No, dorky. It's fact
sony played their base. i'm a ps gamer but what they did was shady as hell.
your a playstation consoomer and will ride them for anything thats why u mad
So you'd feel better if it was a PS centric site that wrote an article about it ?
Agreed, I’m mean when did Sony ever say the HFW or Spidey MM we’re only on PS5, fact is they didn’t, people just presumed because they were shown of on PS5.
All this noise over two games. Yes Sony lied about TWO GAMES. TWO GAMES. TWO GAMES. 2 games.
I'm the biggest PlayStation fan here, been there from the start, but mislead is precisely true. You could even go so far to say lied by omission. They allowed a widely believed narrative to flourish and did nothing to correct it. Did that say those games or any others wouldn't be on PS5? No. Thats why I'm not flat out calling them liars. But they let that mindset get propagated and even doubled down saying we believe in generations. I still think they believe in generations. And the quote was more along the lines of new generations should get features not possible on previous generations which we will get. Spiderman is not going to be 60fps and have raytracing on PS4. You will be getting a game on ps5 not possible on PS4. They just should have been more upfront about it, people would have understood. And people will get over this too. I mean one thing you never have to worry about with PlayStation is whether you are gonna get good games. It's more just being used as console war ammo because what else do you expect?
He said the game will be on ps5 to take advantage of the specs he never said they won't be on ps4
I'm a Playstation fanboy but being honest and sincere with myself Sony didn't do a good job here, they let Microsoft get all the hate for doing crossgen games and now they will do the same with some titles that wasn't cool it really wasn't...
That always seems to be the alibi when there's an article thats critical of Sony; bring up whatever the outlet is and surmise that they are conspiring against Sony
Sony deserves whatever criticism they get for this mess. Meanwhile this means I won't have to upgrade until there is a PS5 pro which makes me much happier. My PS4 pro is fine for now. Gives me a chance to get a new HDMI 2.1 TV or monitor before I upgrade.
Of course it's intentional... They knew months ago they would be releasing those games on PS4 and chose not to say anything while letting Microsoft take tons of negative coverage over "their" cross-gen plans and how it was holding games back. I mean people used Spider-Man Miles Morales and Horizon as showcases for what NON-cross-gen games could look like... They had every opportunity to reveal it, but why would they until the last minute?
It's a fair point. A lot of people are on the fence about whether they want to upgrade or not as it isn't a cheap investment. Especially with everything going on. Buying a new box is fine and dandy, but if you can get away with playing the majority of the games on your previous machine, maybe that works out better for you. It would be nice to know for sure which games are going to be 100% exclusive and which will suddenly have a PS4 version showing up. That being said, I preordered and am full steam ahead.
I think the stupidity in this is that they’re making it seem like ALL games are coming out for the PS4 as well. There’s no fair point, really. If the PS5 was available to pre-order for the last few months and they barely said this, then I’d agree. But it was info that came out clear alongside the showcase before pre-orders began. No one was deceived.
Can't call a spade a spade huh? I swear sony could s#it in yall mouths and you'd ask for more....
Did you just start gaming? It's the first batch of games tops. It'll be all PS5 after 2021.
NO it's not bad for the consumer. Not everyone can afford to get a PS4 at launch, and this asinine idea that 100million PS4 owners should be locked out of games that were already in devdlopment for the PS4 is just idiotic. It's not as though 3rd party games won't be released on both PS4 and PS5 anyway. I don't see any hoopla about Cyberpunk 2077 et al beinfg released across generations. Just imagine the outcry if CDPR suddenly decided to only release Cyberpunk on next gen platforms - even though it started develpment for current gen systems. Exactly.
Can’t argue with your statement. But it’s lost cause trying to argue with these fools that are trying to run with this narrative. So the only thing we can do is let it run its course.
You’re right, it’s absolutely pro consumer and illogical to argue otherwise. But it also goes against Sony’s previous narrative of believing in next gen exclusives, which in turn led to people criticising Microsoft for ‘holding the generation back’. So although they went about it the wrong way, they ultimately arrived at the right decision. Great news for PS4 owners.
If that's the case, then the generation is allready held back by the series s.
https://n4g.com/news/231886... So you agree with everyone who agreed with MS then, you're making their argument here. You only shift and change to what Sony does. So everyone who got downvoted like crazy are right because you're make those same arguments now. Ok nice instant change in tone and narrative now just as expected. Let's undo 8 months of bashing and pretend you were all for this all along.
Alright, there seems to be a lot of flip flopping going on. I as a PlayStation fan have to call it out. I know there were many people including me who were excited that PS5 games were going to be exclusive to the PS5. Sony never mentioned them also being on PS4 until this past week and now everyone is saying it’s good for the consumer? Come on. I’m still excited to play Horizon 2 and Spiderman MM(already preordered) but still it’s perfectly fine to call a company out when you know they lied. The omission of the truth is still a lie after all.
So now it’s good for the consumer? I thought you : “want developers to use the full extent of the capacity of the next gen consoles, and not be held back by the lowest common denominator” You also referred to Xbox’s approach of developing simultaneous current/next gen versions as “splitting resources”. That’s an interesting shift in perspective, when the only variable that’s changed since then is the company you’re commenting on. https://n4g.com/news/235339...
The point is MS announced cross gen support and were DESTROYED by game media and Sony fans. Sony straight up lied about it. They said they were not doing it. There are many articles you can point to proving this. Then at the eleventh hour only when preorders had started, they snuck out in a blog post that they were doing cross gen with Spider-Man and other games..... You can't deny the shadiness.
As a big PS fan I'm 50/50 about this. Obviously it's good business to not ignore 100 million customers. I am one, and am happy that the PS4 will continue to get support. However, it also means I'm not desperate to get a PS5 at launch. Never played Demons Souls and I'm sure the remake will be awesome but if that is the only true exclusive at launch then I can wait. I also can't be bothered jumping through hoops just to try and get one at launch. So unless the confirmed launch lineup is more attractive to me I'll wait it out until Ratchet arrives. I have plenty to play until then.
"not everyone can afford a PS5 at launch" Okay but the games will still be there after launch... 🤷♂️
Get over it.
We should all get over it, ok in the long run this means nothing. But at one point MS having generational exclusives was worse than Adam Or the DRM comment and MS shooting themselves in the foot. https://n4g.com/comments/re... Is that still the case? Has Sony made Xbox lvls of mistakes?
Did you call out MS for the same mistakes? Please, show us.
@Razzer Nice deflection, generational exclusives didn't bother me as much. At least not as much Not as calling it worse than the X1 shenanigans. Far from that.
You brought up MS, not me. How am I deflecting to a topic you originated? So the answer is no, you didn't. Shocker.
Sony should have been upfront about this from the beginning. This was just a PR fiasco that could have been avoided entirely. Stupid move, Sony.
Why. They have been upfront. It's not as if people already have Ps5s at home which they didn't need.
So allowing everyone to believe these games were PS5 exclusives while they were making PS4 versions is being upfront? That's actually the opposite of being upfront. And the thing is.....it was entirely needless. Why keep this a secret and then spring the news later? It is just stupid.
They revealed cross gen support in a blog post that was released at the same time PS5 preorders began. They said many times leading up to then they were not doing cross gen support. They were not up front at all.
@tedakin: "They said many times leading up to then they were not doing cross gen support." Not once did they say that.
Tadakin Provide link please.
Also with that Demon Souls PC at the end of the trailer. With their recent statement that more first party IP games will come to PC seems like a BS that the PC listing at Demon Souls is a mistake. Lol what I think is Demon Souls is indeed coming to PC sometime soon, they just dont want to hurt PS5 sales. Also where's GOW4PC Sony? Oh and Spiderman? If HZD logic applies then porting those 2 on PC might also help boost PS5 sales? Lol really a dumb idea that HZD PC. Trash move. Going down the same path as MS. Just say it upfront that all PS5 so called 1st party "exclusive" games will come to PC like MS does.
You seem bitter. Just buy a PS5 and all will be sweet again. You will never have to beg for PS exclusives again and you can reclaim your dignity.
You did see me say "trash move" which means im a Sony fanboy right? Or you're in auto attack whenever you see something similar from what I just said?
There is a possibility it may come to PC as they did mentioned bringing more games to the PC. Perhaps in a year or 2 they may add it. Sony aren’t going to release them time and date with the PS5 version.
I agree. 👨⚖️⚖️ One needs to do some serious research in order to know what the PS5 does and doesn't, and when you've finished, you end up with more doubts than when you started. Users deserve better, considering what's going on on the other sidewalk.
Glad you agree, but everything after "I agree" is just bullshit from an Xbox fan.
If it's BS, then let me explain to you the Spider-Man situation. MM is a contained story a la Lost Legacy and First Light. It's $50. Or $70 for the version that includes the first game Remastered. You can get it for PS4 (it was believed to be PS5 exclusive since June). It's part of the PS4-PS5 upgrade system (that Sony didn't believe in, because they believed in generations). But "it" only refers to Spider-Man: MM. Owners of OG Spider-Man, even those with all the DLC, are currently left behind. The upgrade path is to spend $20 more on the $50 Side Story, to get that voucher code. Just like with Control, Sony's way to upgrade existing players is to get them to rebuy what they already own. They don't even say if the Ultimate Edition's Remastered voucher will be eligible for the PS4 Spider-Man. Will those PS4 players be able to play MM on their PS4 but not the OG? Would this lead to $90-100 Ultimate Editions for GOW2 and HFW, with 'Remastered' original titles included? GOW2 also isn't confirmed as a PS5 exclusive - the PS Blog labels it as Coming to PS5 right below the cross-gen Hogwarts Legacy
@RazzerRedux How about facts from an Xbox fan? =) I keep having PS friends asking me for information and being disappointed over and over again. Almost all of them plan to get it when God of War comes out and they don't even believe Sony anymore on a 2021 release. Some are considering a XSX for multiplatform games and Game Pass, considering its biggest exclusives look to be as far as God of War. Sony IS doing a horrible job on a lot of stuff related to PS5.
