PS5 games will cost over 20% more in the UK and EU compared to the US, with the price of Sony's PlayStation 5 launch titles being revealed.

I live in the Middle East, and he fact that I have to suffer for making a UK account because my country didn't have a PSN Store back in 2007 (just to be safe when it comes to those dumb region locked DLC) and not be able change the region is bullshit. I can't believe I've been dealing with buying PSN credit codes for over a decade, and now shit's gonna cost even more.

I like the idea of sharing accounts with my girlfriend so she gets to play what I buy. Not being able to do the same with making a new account sucks.

Same in Australia. Demon's Souls PS5 is currently priced at $125 AU. For Comparison, Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 is $79 at the same retailer.

Games didn't jump until the Canadian dollar chrashed and lost parity with the US dollar.
Infact Canadian's still have been paying $$60usd, the Canadian dollar is just garbage and that's why we pay more.

The $399 ps5 DE edition is going to cost us over $530 plus tax plus carbon tax ... blame DH Trudeau.

EU depends on the country so that's a steep hike. Germany is 19% but the prices are already higher here anyway.

Remember 🇪🇺 and 🇬🇧 currencies are worth more than the 🇺🇸 and should therefore reflect that price. Even with tax included £80/€80 is wildly outrageous.

Edit: For comparison sake thats equal to ~$100 in both accounts. Tax in the 🇺🇸 is NOT $30.

I’ll grab Spider-Miles but like the last one once I’ve smashed it I’ll be getting rid sooner rather than later can put that money towards any potential next game not paying £60 a game tho. Sure the prices will drop but yeah not buying em myself. Sure they’ll give away another copy of Spider-Man at some point down the line so it’ll be good for a week or so.. did the first one in a weekend just over so yeah won’t last long (and I normally take ages haha) get my money’s worth and next gen launch fix and I’ll sell it on. Those are psn store prices. I live in germany and all PS5 games so far cost 69,99€ at retail and on amazon. Tax is already included in eu prices btw.

The prices at Elgiganten and other retailers right now are outrageous. I guess and hope that will change. Up until now, Elgiganten was also cheap with the games, never more than 599;- for a new game, so a jump to 699:- is what I can live with.
And 5995:- for PS5 while Series C is priced at 5695:- seems strange aswell.

Yes. Comparing it and making it seem that its "unfair" is very "unfair" wages are different everywhere and there are multiple reasons for that.
I am okay with paying more if I earn more so it reflects the economy, thats how it works. You can still import if you feel like it...

If you go to eastern europe it's much lower. Northern europe is probably quite high because of the massive amounts of tax they pay.

But in general it is difficult to gauge the different prices of different region compared with spending power etc.

It is. That’s why the comparison in this article is strange. It’s comparing the WHOLE of Europe to the WHOLE US.

To some Europeans it may be cheaper. For example a minimum wage in Germany compare to a minimum wage in Oklahoma.

Just a reason for me to compare prices even more and pick the cheapest. I rarely pay more than 55 euros when most brick and mortar stores and psn store charge 69 euros for new ps4 games. A week or so after release alot of the games are offered on ebay and other places for <55 new and sealed.

The price has raised £10 every gen since PS2. And I noticed when RDR2 came out it was the first game I saw retailing for £50, now they all do it here.
There is no way anyone (but in this case the British people) will be happy with going to go from buying £40 games two years ago, to £60 even £70 games now lol. They will stay at £50 for the most part.

Using average exchange rates it seems the US has always gotten electronic items significantly cheaper than UK/Eurozone. I guess that doesn't factor in average wages etc though.

As someone who is VERY frugal with buying games (often one every three months or longer) I can technically live with this but I'm not happy with it as a precedent.
