Have to agree. Love the game as a whole, but the gunplay is pretty lackluster. Wouldn't call it outright terrible though.

When I went into Mafia I was looking for some Godfather game style gameplay. While Mafia 1 and 2 have disappointed me on this front I am hoping for the new one to satiate.

Despite this I do agree with the writer here I love me some Mafia stuff even if it isn't as good (imo) as the Godfather game

jambola248d ago

eh, it was the ps2 era
most games had terrible gameplay
especially shooters, especially 3rd person shooters

Profchaos248d ago

Yeah in a way played Mafia one after spending months playing vice city and the gameplay felt so clunky in comparison so there was certainly better games it there that felt good to play

Friendlygamer247d ago (Edited 247d ago )

Now that's crazy revisionism to me, in the ps2 era many devs mastered 3d graphics and gameplay, heck I would say that we really haven't evolved all that much past games like dmc 3, metal gear 3, Splinter cell, resident evil 4... in design, as a matter of fact I would say we went backwards in some aspects (physics and experimentation). That era has some tight shooters too like : the darwatch, black, king kong, psy ops, gun, the punisher

PrecursorOrb248d ago

1 and 2 had fun gameplay for their time. Yeah comparing them to shooters now is a little unfair imo

Iceball2000248d ago

Honestly the original PC version I find was better. But the remake was good too.

sagapo247d ago

I completely agree. Nothing beats the original imo.

Yep the best they did then they tossed out the horrific mafia 2 remake that is still broken to this day.

chicken_in_the_corn271d ago

That wasn't a remake. It was a remaster.

just_looken271d ago

@chicken

They redid the character models added more destruction and screwed with he art/environment

Its not even close to mafia 1 but not a remaster as in a graphics boost they did more than a graphics upgrade.

I sort if disagree with The Getaway. Playing it all those years ago, it had a dodgy control system, more so vehicles, was slow and was graphically unfinished. The sequel was even worse and the third game on PS3 was canned. I think Sony should take both games and merge them into one (as with the soon to be released Max Payne 1 and 2). Weird how Sony messed up The Getaway never to be seen again.
